I find the whole Ewok battle to be preposterous. Not even the whole "fuzzy teddy bears killing armored soldiers with energy weapons" thing, but also the fact that two logs are able to smash a metal walking tank in one hit and destroy it. Are walkers made out of aluminum foil?

I call inconsistent argument. If you can handle tanks on stilts in the first place then you can surely handle said tanks being defeated by primitive log-traps. ...not to mention you can (presumably) handle laser swords, missile repellent energy shields, telekinesis, planet-blasting guns, etc. etc. etc.

There isn't an ounce of realism/"logic" in Star Wars physics -- that's not what Star Wars is about. The Battle of Endor depicts a primitive force assisting the heroes in taking down a technologically superior evil enemy, which is a well-established motif in story telling (all media), and Ewok traps defeating stilt-tanks is a very effective way of visually presenting this. The Ewoks are basically Zulus; "primitives" kicking the arse of technologically superior invaders.

Ewoks are great. Until a bunch of them get drunk and try to hump your leg in the middle of a gig. Seriously...will never play Endor again. #needednewpants

The Empire isn't renowned for taking operator safety into account, I'm guessing the Emperor dissolved OSHA around the same time as the Senate. AT-STs weren't all that sturdy or well-armored.

I didn't have a problem with the Ewoks, nor do I have a problem with them currently. I didn't have a problem with the Gungans nor Jar-Jar, nor did I see any racial connotations other than knowing the actor who played Jar-Jar was black. (I'm black).

Even though I was not a huge Star Wars fan until TFA, I always liked Ewoks as a kid. I had a Wickett action figure and even liked the cartoon. =P

But, my brother-in-law is about 14 years older than me and he strongly disliked the Ewoks. I understand why.

I never minded them, I just never cared for how much it slowed down ROTJ. Then again I've never understood the sheer level of hatred more "cutesy" type of creatures receive.

One of the reasons I don't like the Ewoks is because of how they are presented. There is nothing the ROTJ gives that makes the Ewoks worth while. Yes they're furry and cute, yes they help the rebellion, but they do it in a dorky way that shows no character or heroism. Chewie for example does his part because of a bond he has with the other characters. He knows what he is giving up in order to help them. The Ewoks just help because they think Threepio is a god. There's no allegiance or any sense of them knowing what they are sacrificing.
Also, it was very unrealistic to see little furry midgets trash an army of troopers that were so effective and deadly in the other two movies. It made the fight for Endor seem like a separate movie made for little kids.

I think the Ewoks were very heroic, they didn't just jump into the fight as mindless zealots for C-3PO. It was something they debated and decided on. In the movie we get the impression that C-3PO's story about how evil the Empire is convinces them to help the Rebels out, after a short deliberation. The novelization expands on this quite a bit, with Luke and Han giving speeches to the reluctant Ewoks who think that it's not their fight. Finally Wicket gives a really long speech talking about how 3PO told them he wasn't their god and how they were free from that religion to make a choice of their own, or some such. The bottom line was they made their choice not based on their reverence for 3PO at all and instead decided to help because it was the right thing to do and they also recognized the threat of the Empire to themselves.

The novelization was there after the movie. When you just watch the movie, there are no speeches or anything other than Threepio's story time, which isn't exactly a very motivating thing to watch.

I only brought up the novelization because it expanded on what I think was already in the film. I wouldn't have if it were something that was just a fabrication of the novelist and had no basis in the movie. What the movie does show is that after their little pow-wow with the Rebels the Ewoks make a decision to help out and that they weren't told to help by 3PO, who they no longer really worship after that point. It's the explanation the film didn't bother to give for why they dropped the 3PO-god thing, though I guess it meant us to assume that in the course of their meeting/story the true purposes and identities of the group were revealed and the Ewoks decided to help anyway. His story may not have been motivating for you but the Ewoks appeared to be very affected by it.

That's the thing though, this is a thread for why people hated the Ewoks so much. 99.9% of the people who watched ROTJ did not read any of the novels or anything from the expanded universe. People hatethe Ewoks so much because they watched ROTJ, and the Ewoks were just like how I said they were.
