I will download a sample to my kindle too, and continue from there if I like it. Just finished reading the Foundation and Dune sample. I'll sample this one too.

Episode 7 has the best cold open of them all. Maiden of the spear fighting was spectacular... and so was the payoff later in the episode, especially for non readers. The choreography was beautifully flowing, suitably brutal, powerful. I loved all of it.

If episode 6 was for the gays, episode 7 was for Lan-sexuals, lol. Generally, we got the deepening of all the relationships, romantic or otherwise.

Moraine setting Red Ajah on Matt gave me pause. I am interested to see where they'll go with him in Season 2.

Now I am going to say something scandalous for book purists. I like show Min more than book Min, only based on this episode's few scenes.

The fake out channeling in the Ways (Egwene=>Rand) was clever and it surprised me although I knew who the Dragon was. Machin Shin voices were perfect.

This one and episode 4 are fighting for the title of the best so far. I am sad that the last episode is next week.

Definitely agree. It reminded me of Game of Thrones' Tower of Joy fight...which makes sense in more ways than one! Y'all, that fight came out FIVE YEARS AGO.

Ha! They could make this show 90% about Lan and Nynaeve, and I'd keep watching in a heartbeat.

I think this may set up The Great Hunt in a weird way, but it also continues to set up Mat's deep distrust of Aes Sedai. But yeah, this will be interesting to see play out.

I'm still for Book Min myself, but I DO think Show Min captures the spirit of Book Min, and has a far more interesting meeting with Rand than Book Min did. She's the character I was most excited for, and she's the character I'm most excited to see more of. I do hope that line about three women is sarcasm on her part. I mean, I THINK it is, but you never know...

Really! I actually called it from the start - Rand's actions were too aggressive for defense to me. But that means the scene did its job well regardless.

I...wasn't sold on this part. I guess I wanted it to be more of "evil self talking to you" than what we got, but it wasn't bad either.

Same...on the bright side, a friend of mine who wasn't entirely on-board with the show before has caught up and was VERY disappointed on Wednesday when he thought there were only six episodes lol!

Also for those watching who've read the books and are curious about Brandon's thoughts on the show, he's done a few posts about the show as well as dedicated an episode of his and Dan Wells' podcast Intentionally Blank to talking about it. The posts below are ALL SPOILERS FOR ALL BOOKS, while the podcast episode only contains mild spoilers for the first three episodes I believe.

Thanks for this as it provides some really nice insights into the scripting process.

Haven’t seen the latest episode yet but it sounds really good.

That was an excellent interview, basically a conversation between the friends, I've seen it a couple of days ago, but haven't thought to share it, so thank you!

The best parts are when Brandon nerds out about the show and the books like one of us. :D

It really, really is. Its fighting for my favorite as of right now.

So have just watched Episode 7 & damm that was good agree with @LadyMusashi & @Use the Falchion about the opening & the payoff later in the episode. Lan is probably becoming my favourite character & finding out more about his background was definitely a highlight ( Hopefully at some point we will get more details of his & Moraine early interactions ).

It is possible and I'd like that. Their history was explored in WOT prequel New Spring and they already adopted some elements. Karene (Green sister who died), for example, as well as Moraine's relationship with Siuan were mentioned in the New Spring.

Daniel Henney is doing fantastic job as Lan. Plus, he and Zoe Robins (Nynaeve) have fantastic chemistry. I was a shipper 20+ years ago when I read the books for the first time, show made even bigger one. Romance's were never Jordan's forte. I think the show not only accelerated the relationship (because the characters from the Two Rivers were aged up), but also improved upon it quite a bit.

I'll post more of these if/when they come out! Brandon did say in his Spoiler Q&A stream that he hadn't watched Episode 6 yet, but Episodes 4 & 5 weren't too different from the scripts he read before.

Honestly, my biggest fear for the finale right now is that they are going to 'kill' Moraine. Rafe said not all the characters will survive, Moraine practically said goodbye to Lan in the last episode and Rosamund said Moraine is on the suicide mission.

I would really, really hate that as it would undermine the entire mentor/pupil dynamic she and Rand have. Plus, if they do that, who will take that mentor role? The kids barely tolerate Moraine, I don't see them accepting anyone else, particularly Rand. Many things in the first season had to be sacrificed for the world building and characters spending time together and simply interacting was one of the biggest victims. That's why I think Moraine's 'death' would not really make sense. Still, the foreshadowing... I am so nervous.

Honestly, I was a bit underwhelmed by the finale after the amazing seventh episode. I also felt that it left many things vague/confusing for non-readers: shielding of Moraine (I believe, some say stilled), Ishamael not the Dark One, Seanchan ships, etc.

Still, the world before the breaking, Lan's speech to Nynaeve ("you are a lioness, Wisdom"), the mass destruction of trollocs while women burn, all of that brought tears to my eyes.

I hope Loial isn't dead, just wounded, I would hate that. Rafe, you want your house still standing, right? ;)

I have to re-watch again for the impressions to settle. But, overall, I just wanted a more powerful ending even if The Eye of the World has the weakest of endings in the first part of book series...

I think Ishamael may be the only confusing aspect for non-readers going forward, but that was something that confused me my first time reading too. I'm on the stilling side, and I feel it was pretty obvious from Moiraine's reactions after the battle and pretty well-foreshadowed with Logain. To me, hearing Ishamael explain how Moiraine was feeling made me understand just why the still male channelers went insane, so it sort of clicked with me at the end. But I'm also a book reader, so your point doesn't apply to me. :p The Seanchan ships don't need to be explained at this moment IMO - it's a tease for the next season. All people need to know is that an enemy army is coming, and they have channelers.

    Yeah, those parts were amazing.

Ironically, I was this close to commenting on your post about Moiraine dying and was going to say that Loial would most likely be the victim! (He has the least to do out of all the characters from the books, and disappears for literal books at a time, so writing him out of the show wouldn't be too terribly hard.) I'm almost annoyed I didn't post that now! :p:D;)
But yeah, I think there's a chance he still lives also. On the bright side, we see what Perrin's indecision is costing him. He's afraid to fight, but the Way of the Leaf has brought him nothing good either - they couldn't defend him from the Whitecloaks, it wouldn't help his friends in the battle, and he couldn't stop Slick Rick from stealing the Horn.

Maybe I need to reread the series, but I EotW has one of the most memorable endings to me, weirdly enough. EotW, TGH, TDR, LoC (if that's Dumai's Wells), WH, and then the Sanderson books. I remember bits and pieces of other books' endings, but they also all blur together due to the breakneck speed at which I read the books and the fact that...well...they all sort of blur together. I also have music associated with EotW's ending though, so that definitely helps it stick out.

As for the show's finale, I definitely agree - I wasn't as impressed. It wasn't the worst season finale I've seen, but it was far from the best also. I think that it did it's job, but nothing more than that. Ishamael's duel with Rand was a nice look forward in many ways, and I'm curious to see how the Last Battle will look. Overall, I'm excited to see what they do with Season 2, but I'm not 100% sure I would recommend this show to any more people until Season 2 starts. That being said, my friends who aren't book-readers who I've notified of this show and started it seem to really enjoy it, so I call this show an overall success.

Those who are stilled/gentled cannot feel the power at all (they are cut from it) and Ishamael told Moraine how terrible it must be for her to feel the power just at the tip of her fingers unable to touch it. She says as much to Lan: I can't touch the source. Plus, the weaves went into Moraine, were not ripped out of her like with Logain, and you can see him literally tying a knot in his hand. Also, she couldn't lie to Lan about Rand just evade/shake her head. Those who are stilled are not bound by oaths, we know that from Siuan and Leanne in the books. That's why I think she is shielded, but it will take Rand OR (ironically) Logain to break the shield.

Also, after reading the reactions, it seem non-readers have much more positive impressions of the episode and we are cursed with knowledge.

Slick Rick. Lol, I love that we watch the same reactors. :D

    BROTHER BOOK!!

Ah, thanks for the correction! Do we know if they're doing the same thing in the show though? Either way, I think you're right about Moiraine eventually needing Rand or Logain's help. (And that's an amazing theory btw!)

That seems to be the show in general, which is a great sign overall. The bitter truth of adaptations is that the adaptation is not meant for the core audience, not as much as the core audience would like to think it is anyways. WoT has had some very positive non-reader reactions, and a majority of the reader reactions within the fandom spaces you and I seem to visit are very welcoming and open and positive. But like this forum, once you travel outside of those spaces - even just as far as Brandon Sanderson's version of the livestream yesterday instead of The Dusty Wheel's - then the book-readers get a lot more toxic and negative. I had hope that if/when Mistborn and Stormlight Archive get adapted, that Sanderson's fans would be far more open-minded because of the welcoming nature of the WoT fandom...but seeing the dark side of that fandom does give me a bit of pause. (I have a little more faith in the fandom since Brandon himself is very open and involved with both the fandom and his Mistborn movie process...well, as involved as his NDAs and deals will let him be; but there will always be that side of the fandom that simple hates what isn't the book or the movie they had in their head, either because they don't know how hard it is to adapt books to screen, or don't appreciate the things outside of the writer/director's influence.)

Just a quick question for the book readers I’m definitely getting book 1 & 2 but can’t decide between book 3 or the prequel book New Spring so any advice would be much appreciated.

oh & I will be watching the season finale either later tonight or tomorrow

Well, that's a dilemma for sure since they are using elements of the first three books in the first two seasons AND the New Spring. I would go for the first three books, but going the other way isn't wrong. Maybe, just maybe... get all four? ;)

I can't wait to hear what you think about finale. Enjoy!
