When (if ever) do you plan on subscribing to Disney+ ?

?

When do you plan on subscribing to the online streaming service Disney+?

  1. Immediately upon launch, there's too much great content to avoid. Oh, and because.. STAR WARS.

  2. Immediately. The Clone Wars returning changes everything!

It would make sense for it to be. That would put all the movies, The Clone Wars, Rebels, Resistance, and a new show to cover all of the Star Wars content. I'm assuming they'll probably do something similar with Marvel and just regular Disney content. Marvel is a little more unique since they already have several TV shows that are done for streaming that they can just switch over to the new service.

Yeah, hopefully it's more of a perceived problem than an actual problem. The bar is being set too high, just because it has "Star Wars" in the title. Which is both a good and a bad thing I guess. But every single show/movie won't be an instant success, and hopefully the folks calling the shots are well aware of this.

I've been really curious about this, and mostly because of my ignorance. I don't really know how streaming services get their content, but I'm assuming it's basically a "highest bidder" type thing. Obviously Disney owns the content, they can put it wherever they want... But, do they have a contract with Netflix to say, "We'll give you exclusive rights to the Jessica Jones series" ? Or, is it a season by season thing? Or, will they have to "buy out" their own shows from Netflix in order to move them to their own service??

Moving current shows like the MCU from Netflix to their service will also help a lot, since there is already a huge established audience.

yeah, i think there's a distribution license. you get the show for six months a year or whatever, and then it comes back to the roost to be farmed out again, renegotiated, or whatever. i'm guessing once the Netflix contract runs out, they'll take back their properties and have them exclusively on their own channel.

this deal keeps getting more interesting all the time.
i don't really care about the Marvel content, but having the backlog to all of Disney's classic films would be worth a trip down memory lane for me, having grown up on the Wonderful World of Disney as a kid.

And every Star Wars, Marvel, and Indiana Jones movie, and probably a lot of other "Fox" stuff... there's a lot of stuff, and good stuff at that, that's going to be available.

Right now as a parent to young kids, having Disney's entire collection at my fingertips is a huge draw. It (almost) outweighs the Star Wars pull. :D

The thought of this also makes me nervous for the cost...

I think the shows get renewed on a year by year basis with the studios calling the shots and Netflix serving solely as a distribution channel. Disney has been planning this streaming service for a while now so I'm sure any outstanding agreements they have with Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime will end when the streaming service launches or shortly after.

I'm curious to see if they break this out into separate payment options based on content. Almost like if you only want Star Wars content you pay xxx amount, if you want only Marvel you pay xxx amount, etc... and then have an option that is like Disney unlimited or something that includes everything.

yark . that'll be the make or break on this one for sure.
like @HuskyRunner said, if there are tiers, i don't doubt Star Wars will end up in one of the tops ones.

I don't think they would charge a premium for one brand over another. Rather I could see them charging a flat rate per brand (Star Wars, Marvel, etc...) and then have another fee that includes everything. That way if people only want Star Wars then they can get Star Wars, if they want to get just Marvel and Star Wars they can do that, and if they want everything then they could do that.

That would make sense, but I would also be miffed at the same time. I'm one of those people who if you tell me it's $20 / month, I'll say "ehh okay sure" but if you tell me it's $10/month for the base subscription but the Star Wars and Marvel channels are each $5/month I'll be all "You greedy little Toydarians!!"

for my purposes, i do hope it's tiered.
there's so much content i don't want, and i don't want to pay a premium for things i'm not interested in.

Same. Like most of the Disney content I could go either way on. Same with the Marvel content, I never really got into the Marvel shows on Netflix and don't really see myself jumping into them when they are on the new service since I'm already hours behind in a million other shows that I plan on ignoring just for the Star Wars content.

I also wonder if the new show is going to be bulk released like a lot of content is on Netflix or if they are going to release a new episode on a weekly basis so people don't binge watch on a free trial and then bail until more content comes out.

Season 2 is worth it just for Bernthal's Punisher.

I'll subscribe when I see the quality of content.

No, DD2 is the introduction to Punisher.
watch order: DD1, DD2, Punisher, first half of Luke Cage
I was just ranking them because honestly the rest have been so wildly disappointing.
Except for the first half of Luke Cage s1. That's amazing.

I have a young daughter who’s obsessed with Disney princesses. That there might be anything at all on there that dad could like too, is totally inconsequential. I'm paying for this whether I want it or not :D

I will subscribe to the streaming channel right away. I hope that Disney will have all the Marvel content and Star Wars Content, plus I am looking forward to having access to watch some of the Pixar and Disney movies. I am willing to pay $12 a month for HD content. I am looking forward to Jon Favreau's show. I hope we will get some Mandalorian characters.

I just saw that DC's new service has an annual fee of $74.99 which comes out to about $6.25 a month. Do you all think we could see a similar price point for Disney's streaming service or do you think it will be higher due to more content?
