SPECULATION When is the trigger for a fourth trilogy announcement?

I don't want a fourth trilogy if its just about Disney making more films to earn more money. That would both cheapen Star Wars and annoy the real fans further.
I would rather have fewer films with good stories and characters than extra filler episodes made for extra profit.

 

Yeah, I couldn't agree more with this: Star Wars used only for monetary gain is an absolute waste of the potential stories that could be told, and the stories should not be bound by the lust for profit; rather, they should be told because there is an important story to tell.

 

Well friends, I have some very bad news for you guys.

 

I agree with everyone who said they should take a break. But Disney shareholders won't have it.

Whether there's a fourth saga trilogy or a new one, I'll be fine with any new Star Wars movies. Would love to see an Old Republic saga.

 

Just google any interview where KK talks about the mains tar wars movies she says, so does bob iger, that star wars films will be around once a year for as long as they can make them

I would say a five year break with a spin off trilogy in between or preferably no movies at all. Maybe a live action TV show on Netflix instead? Also, I hope it's a couple of years, because, as an aspiring actor, I need time to get up there to even be considered for a role xD

 

I'm trying to find it, but I'm not sure you are correct. I can't find anything where KK or Bob Igor give any plans for star wars after episode 9.

If they confirm a 4th trilogy in every interview, help me out. I can't seem to find it.

 

My guess is that they're done with the Skywalker after with one.

They can try something new in another time period.

 

They should announce a new trilogy NOW.bring it on disney.i dont give a damn if they do it only for tha money.of course they do it for the money.these aint some arthouse independent movies or something.

 

They confirm ongoing movies in general that are both spin offs as well expanding the story of the skywalker s so a 4th trilogy is guaranteed at some point in the near future

 

1 - Yes I think there will be a fourth trilogy, though I wouldn't be surprised if there was a gap of a few years that were filled with more stand alone films. I think it's likely they will stick to the trilogy format instead of going the Marvel route and do a Rey film, Finn film, Poe film etc.

2 - If the next trilogy is episodes 10, 11 and 12 then I would be pretty surprised if those films weren't centered around the current trio of heroes. It would be pretty weak to create and develop these characters and then just replace them with a new set for the next trilogy. However, I do expect the 4th trilogy to be centered around something like a new jedi order or some way that they would pass the torch to a new generation. Seems like the obvious path.

3 - I had never considered this would be announced in 2018, but I don't think it's out of the question. It would be surprising to hear about it this early, but NO ONE would be surprised by the announcement that there is gonna be a 4th one. Personally, I don't expect to see it in 2018.

One question I have - which may or may not be off topic - how do you guys feel about spin off trilogies? For instance, there have been rumors (or wishful thinking) of an Obi-Wan trilogy. Personally, as much as I love Kenobi I would prefer to have a story like that done in one film. But I think there's plenty of potential for something like an Old Republic trilogy in the future. Is it possible that Disney would try to start a new saga like that instead of continuing the Skywalker story? Conceivably, they could make 'Star Wars: The Old Republic - Episode 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 etc. and never run out of narrative gas...I'm not sure how great those films would be, but it is a possibility.

 

Where do they confirm a 4th trilogy? Did you read the recent quotes I linked? I think we can all assume they will crank it out at some point but I can't find any details on their plans post EP9.

You keep repeating that its easy to google and they confirm it in every interview etc. Maybe I'm just super dumb. Can you link something where anyone "confirms" a 4th trilogy?

I know you aren't obligated to help me, but please don't just keep replying how easy it is to find without linking anything. Especially since I've shown several recent quotes where they said they haven't figured it out and meetings are ongoing.

Disney will be putting their marbles in a new SW series based upon the Old Republic. They will finish this Skywalker sequel series, the three anthology movies, and they will attempt to turn the excitement in a new SW trilogy direction before coming back to revisit the Skywalker series. They are builiding the brand back up and will try to cash in on expanding the universe before condensing it back down to the Skywalker storylines.

 

Maybe my wording is wrong or it's not being understood...but a fourth trilogy IS a given if they are to expand on the skywalkers in any way

There will be another trilogy of some kind eventually. Whether it's a continuation of these characters or something else like a KOTOR thing, who knows.

That said there is absolutely no way there will be an announcement for another trilogy this year, let alone before this ST is completed.

 

I wonder if this will be the last trilogy. Or at least in concept. The whole idea of episodes is film serials. It seems like it would make sense just to do them one at a time for now on. There don't have to be in sets of 3 just because that's the way Lucas did it in the past.

Huge pieces of me says no. Let the Skywalker family live on. No need to keep them terrorizing the Galaxy.
Granted...I do want to see something come of the Old Republic, specifically Revan.

2 - Do you think it will expand on the stories of Rey, Finn, Poe & Co?

Since they touched on all of these in the Comics, I doubt it.

3 - Do you think there is any chance THIS will be one of the major announcement in 2018, or they will just wait a little longer?

They'll release something big about the Characters and possibly who will play certain Solo Characters, but I doubt a 4th Trilogy will be their release.

2. Yes it will follow them...I think they will still be major players.
3. Announcement after the trilogy ends....we'll get a few years of stand alones first...maybe a 4 - 5 year gap.
