I wonder if tomorrow's special announcement is the Fourth Trilogy? lol

Maybe it's just the release of the unaltered OT on Blu-Ray and Digital.

It looks like another Force For Change initiative: see here (scroll down to the bottom).

Not to be a dick, but... You're still wrong.
A novelization which, I might add, hit the shelves a few weeks before the movie hit theaters. Which means he was created before you say he was.

Darth Bane was always a canon character, even if his first "canon" appearance didn't happen until TCW in 2014.

Wait. I thought Darth Bain was created because of the 1,000 year, 1,000 generation goof/retcon after Episode 1 was released.

No. The Galactic Republic that exists in TPM is 1000 years old... But it's not the first Republic. The Galactic Republic was founded after the (seemingly) complete and total defeat of the Sith at the end of the Jedi-Sith War near and the subsequent conclusion of the Dark Age. The Old Republic was overrun by Sith (which is what Mace Windu refers to after his duel with Sheev Palpatine), who were later destroyed before the reformation into the Galactic Republic.

Could not agree more: both the phrasing of the GMA tease and Mark and Daisy being present (they've been part of Force For Change iniatives with SW recently, of course) mean it is highly likely that it will be a new Force For Change initiative (perhaps to feature in IX, or be present at the TLJ premiere?).

I'll be surprised if an extremely short, one-shot teaser for Friday's trailer isn't shown, though, seeing as we're in a much more similar place in terms of a marketing timeline to RO than TFA.

As for "40 years in the making", I'm just taking that as PR talk for "Star Wars is 40 years old this year and everything has, of course, been building to TLJ: advancements in CGI, the overwhelming strength and allure of the franchise, etc."?

Either way, we'll be finding out what this is really all about in the next 5/6 hours or so.

    1. Yes there will be a fourth trilogy. I remember researching years ago, Lucas had a big story originally, where he basically wanted to start in the middle with Episode IV, and do the original trilogy, then have the prequels come up next and then do the next six. I remember a video uploaded on YouTube back in 2007, a interview from 1977, where Mark Hamill said that George told him he thought of the film they were working on as the fourth of a twelve part series and that after the trilogy was done, he'd like to do the first three and then later do the next 6, and would bring him back to be the Jedi who trains other Jedi and hands escalator to the next generation sort of speak, but that video is gone now, since it had clips from Star Wars: Episode IV in it and Fox owns that film forever, so they hit that video with a copyright strike. Though as time went on, Lucas didn't know if he'd want to do VII-XII, so he just decided on settling it as a saga of I-VI. He had ideas for more after 6, but then as we know, he did think of more ideas and had story treatments for new Star Wars films after Return of the Jedi, but Disney threw them in the trash.
    2. Probably. Unless one or two of the characters dies in the next two films, I'm sure they'll be in the story of X-XII.
    3. Probably once this trilogy is done as well as the anthology films are done, they'll announce X-XII.

I really hope they don't announce it for another 10 years, at least. Each trilogy should tell the story of a distinct generation.

    10 years is a bit extreme, 3 or 4.

I'm HOPING they are brave enough to let the bad guys win and move directly into a new set of films. I could personally watch a new SW film every week as long as it's good.

I thought Rogue One was a flimsy premise, but boy did it over-deliver! It could be my favorite one, depending on the day.

I think too many of us who were 'there when it started' moan too loudly about needing a break. Why?? If it's a good film with a good story......we'll all go!

I guess I'm confused here..... If a movie makes a blast-load of money, it's a success. But if Disney (who owns LFL) makes a blast-load of money, we will have the sadz?

I don't care who makes money when a film/song/book/story, etc. makes money as long as it's good!

Some here seem to act offended if Disney makes money. Who cares? You and I don't get it either way if it does or not. I'm a fan of SW, not Disney or LFL. If the films are good then I don't care a.) who made them, or b.) who makes money.

It's not like there won't be anthology movies, Disney isn't going to stop milking the cow. But saga films don't need to be rushed out.

I feel like the 2-year gaps are already a little bit too rushed; there's barely enough time to digest the last one and let speculation start out. The prequels may be flawed films, but the 3-year speculation period was awesome. With the amount of rumors and leaks, we were crafting whole movies before having to start again, and I can place the release/leaking of pretty much every image that came out pre-AOTC and ROTS.

Well, I guess the trigger was November 9th 2017.
What a level of confidence in what Rian J has done for Episode 8!

Buuuuuuuuut it's not necessarily E10, E11, and E12. And it doesn't sound like it will be.

So it's a fourth trilogy, but not the Fourth Trilogy. Semantics!

It would be nice if the episodic numbering was applied to it somehow. I know that limits storytelling opportunities, but I personally prefer the idea that SW is moving forward in time. I’ll be fine either way, of course, but a film 200, 500, 1000 years in the future just seems more interesting to me. I would love it if this new trilogy was like Ep 19-21 or something like that. The numbering adds weight because it alludes to a larger story. It’s a funky little narrative device and I just think it would be cool if it continued.

I can't see any scenario where they commit to jumping around with numbering again. The only reason that GL did that in the first place was because he openly admitted that the middle of the story was more gripping than the story that preceded it.

Plus - it would mean that Disney would box themselves in with where the GFFA would end up when they've stated that they're more interested in giving creators as much creative freedom as possible when telling stories.

    Hold your horses.

We're getting a new trilogy directed by Rian Johnson which is unrelated to the Episodic Saga.

So, Star Wars is going to be busy for another decade until we get a sequel sequel trilogy. :)
