Very cool. Is the shooting to start @ pinewood?

I'm curious how coverage of the shooting will be handled.

They have already shot some scenes on Skellig Michael back in November because of schedule restraints to preserve wildlife on the island or something.

Here's an album with some behind the scenes shots from that shoot(notice the rain and snow machines):

So they decided to rebuild the set at Pinewood, and use close-by Ceann Sibeal to film instead of going to Skellig again.

    The filming locations are:
    Undisclosed place in Mexico
    Pinewood
    Ceann Sibeal

I wonder what type of planet will be represented in Mexico.

It will represent the Mayans who flew their ancient spaceship Dom Mars to the Star Wars universe .

Astromech is just pulling your leg.

I do not know. My guess is as good as anyone else (with the expectation of those who actually know), but it could be Yavin or similar jungle planet with ruins of ancient civilization - if they use Mayan/Olmec temples as their set. This could work, as there are some rumors about part of the plot focusing on a search of old Jedi artifacts.

Mexico has so many terrain types... my guess is tropical. Rogue One is using the same area if I recall?

    Hopefully I didn't do any long-term damage.

The team from ANH BARELY got authorization go shoot in South America because of the ruins being ancient and whatnot.

If Mexico has similar jungles then it would make sense.

My legs is still attached to my torso, and I have a 6 mile run behind me to prove it. So I assume that is the case with everyone else too (with the expectation of golden protocol droids that tend to lose their limbs every now and then). :)

That would be my quick guess as well. But, as Aras Volodka said above, Mexico has tons of different terrain types... I guess we'll find out latest in May 2017.

Just a curiousity, I read on another forum that Ep. 8 is expected to film in Spain. That sounds interesting -- maybe we get to see something similar to Game of Thrones scenes? I noticed that the art director/lead concept artist (either one of them, cannot remember which one) was involved with the new GoT Season 6.

I don't want a Star Wars version of Firefly .

Firefly was great! My only complain is that there is only one season of it.

Seriously though, I read that AotC was partially filmed in Spain (some of the Naboo scenes), so it would be logical to assume that the scenery could then depict something similar: elaborate buildings, palaces and opulence in general?

They hired Pinewood for a decade, so they've probably already started. ;)

They did use Spain for AOTC. The scenes where Padmé, Anakin and R2-D2 arriving on Naboo in the Theed Palace Plaza were filmed in the Plaza di Espana in Seville, Spain. The real Plaza is not actually a circle, its half a circle which was mirrored in post-production to form the illusion of a vast circle. The real plaza was also used in Lawrence Of Arabia too.

When and where was this taken ? Also, you can see Adam Driver in the background to the right.
