to discuss movies and TV? This place is great for Star Wars talk, but I mean non-Star Wars movie and TV stuff.

I was in IMDb regular and have not found a great replacement. I was at IMDb V.2 for a while, but trolls run the boards of all the major franchises and for some reason the admin doesn't do anything about it, so I was curious if any of you had another place that you hang out?

General movie/TV threads on "specialised" forums, like this one. Seriously. Personally, I don't feel passionate enough about majority of movies I see to seek some kind of elaborate discussion platform.

Music forums, for example. I'm quite active on one and lurk on a few.

I used to use the old SFX magazine forums until they folded it into Gamesradar and went all clickbait... in fact it was that which ultimately led me here to SWNN and the Cantina.

I loiter around Den of Geek a little, but their site has become more and more riddled with ads and autoplay videos recently which makes it infuriatingly impossible to read articles or comments.

If you’re interested though, the SWNN sister site Movie News Net has just launched and will be covering the wider movie world - perhaps hop over and take a look?

Same (but mostly for Brandon Sanderson stuff and the occasional lurking on fantasy reddit). For other things I might make one blurb on social media or here, but mostly I try to talk about that stuff with my friends.

I use this thing called "friends." It's an older platform but it checks out.

Weird, I didn't know that this website was called "friends". Is that an insider thing?

I have not ventured into the Reddit world. I'm not sure how I feel about it.

For starters, a little leery of both it and 4chan. What has been your experience there as far as safety goes?

How exactly does that site work? Are there boards for various movies and franchises or to people just create new conversations as time goes on? I always thought the site was a little confusing to navigate.

I have a couple other forums I'm on, but for the most part I just stick to the ones I'm already a part of- particularly if, like here, there are pages specifically for more "jack of all trades" discussion.

I haven't found a replacement for IMDb but at the same time I didn't use IMDb to discuss Star Wars or some of my other favorite films/franchises. I would come to dedicated forums like this for those, but not all were big enough to have one. Or sometimes I'd have a question about a random movie I wasn't going to join a forum for. IMDb was best to talk about older movies that didn't have a currently active franchise because as long as you stayed away from the higher traffic boards you also never saw many trolls. They flocked to where they'd get the most attention and they weren't going to get much attention in something like the "Blazing Saddles" message board. You'd still get some fellow fans you could have done without but it was nothing like the seemingly organized trolling that would go on in some of the more hyped up new releases. If you got away from the beaten path of the blockbusters there were lots of really great fan communities for tons of films.

I would use the aforementioned "friend" platform but I know very few people who actually share my taste in fiction, or at least don't care enough to discuss it in depth. I know quite a few people who like Star Wars but I don't know a single person that has actually read an EU novel or anything. They like the fact that I have and ask me questions when we go to see a SW movie but that's about the extent of Star Wars discussion in my real life. Half the movies I love the majority of my friends/colleagues haven't even heard of, the movies I want to see they don't (so I don't see quite a few movies I'd like to see in the theater) and I get a lot of blank stares when I talk about movies. Similarly I don't really care about their stuff either, our friendship is based on other things I guess. The person I know with the closest tastes in that regard is my brother, but we are opposites in every other way and don't "hang out" much even though we get along. Going to movies is about the only thing we actually do together. I didn't have many Star Wars friends growing up either, at least not once it got into the late 80's and early 90's. There were like 4 of us who loved Star Wars and the rest of the school who didn't understand why we loved some "old kid's movie". An actual quote from a kid who later, when TFA came out, broke out the fake nostalgia and wrote some long sappy post on Facebook about how he was going to take his son to see Star Wars and pass the baton of his childhood off or some crap.

@NunbNuts Agreed on the loss of the IMDB message boards. A terrible, terrible decision on their part, not really sure even now why they shut them down.

Where is there a place for discussion (on the sister site that is)? I am poking around and can't seem to find it.

I enjoy Reddit, but at the same time I don't take anything I do on Reddit very seriously and mostly spend my time on there when I'm looking for a good laugh or two (as long as the laughs don't get out of hand since there are two of them).

For board game stuff, I'm on FFG and (more broadly) BGG.

I'm on some video game forums, including the ones for Battlefront and the Ubisoft forums.

There are some really weirdly specific ones I check out sometimes too, like the fan forums for the King's The Dark Tower series.

I'm actually a contribute there too, and currently we don't have a forum for discussion. I guess the general forums here could work for that, since MNN and SWNN are sister sites.

We do have a Twitter, though!
