While I don't think it's been explicitly stated, I agree with Massimo--I think Star Wars will be getting the MCU treatment, if not now, soon. Hence, I voted for between 7 and 8. I could easily see this between any period, however.

I just want one thing: Dennis Lawson to get his damn movie.

Yeah totally agree, he needs to be in this if nothing else.

I must say, this could be a great film if done right.

Absolutely. There can be a story in the OT era than can be unpredictable. I mean no matter what we know we won't see Tattoine sucked into a black hole or anything (at least not unless we're dealing with time travel reboots) but for the most part, new characters can be unpredictable. I guess my issue is that I haven't seen anything from the new regime yet to make me trust that they won't take the easy way out and go with young han solo, or young boba fett. I mean, if we are dealing with a Death Star Plans heist movie as was rumored, then we already know how that ends. And we'll know whether some of the characters live or die. Again, not to say that they can't make a great Death Star plans heist film either. That just wouldn't be my preference at this point.

So, while I agree that it can work, I just think that I'd need Lucasfilm to prove that they are willing to go that far away from the known quantities to make it unpredictable.

I'm guessing that it is between ROTJ and TFA. The concept art for TFA gives the appearance of a war that had continued for awhile after ROTJ. This movie could be a good way of showing us some of the backstory of how the Galaxy we see in TFA came to be.

The movie could work after TFA. We might be introduced to the Rogue Sqadron in the TFA and see more of there exploits leading up to VIII.

Can't wait to see how this plays out.

There is the possibility that Rogue one will take place between VI and VII because I'm sure they want to clarify what happened between those two movies in the film, they could introduce the new generation of model x wing fighters too. Sure they are coming out with the book aftermath that will explain just that but I'm also sure that they will want it to be put on screen. Let me know what you all think! (x-wing)

I would love it to be set around the same time as the Tarkin novel. But I guess that's not too likely.

Either between episode 6 and 7, or in a way to get Denis back, between 7 and 8. With the latter you can have Wedge come out of retirement to restart Rogue Squadron and Felicity can be the new crack shot pilot that eventually becomes the new Rogue One in his place. It could both honor the original Wedge character and move things forward. Ultimately I'm tired of prequels. Death Star plan heist should be left for the Rebels show.

I don't think it is possible to occur at the same time as the Tarkin novel. I could be wrong but I believe Tarkin takes place shortly after the rise of the Empire and this before the time frame of Rebels. Rebels of course showing the infancy and rise of the Rebal Alliance so there can't be a story about a sqaudron of X-Wings before this time.

That is true. I was under the impression that the movie being about X-wings wasn't set in stone at all. I need to keep up more... (Thought I read something about the title being misleading and might not at all reference to an X-wing Squad.)

Okay I was looking through the Official Star Wars Twitter account and they said Rogue One will take place after The Force Awakens and before Episode VIII. So it's official.

The new books aren't just focusing on the galaxy post ROJ so I'm hoping the movies will do the same. There are loads of fun stories that can take place in between ANH and ROJ that won't require recasting the original heroes and villains we know & love but relate to the original trilogy.
BUT I'm also of the mind that if they really stick to the yearly release schedule, it could be potentially confusing for the average movie goer to have semi-related stories that aren't chronological...

I don't think it is set in stone that it's aboit X-wings but it is widely presumed. Add that to the pics on Gary Whitta's Twitter feed of him in an X-Wing pilot helmet a few months ago and I believe it is looking like it is going in that direction.

Do you think they might be prepping the comics to lead into a spin-off movie?

I could see Billie Lourd playing a younger Leia in a spin-off. I've honestly enjoyed that series more than the other two. Less fanboyishness for me and more character exploration.

The more I think about it the more I think Disney is going to use the Marvel method.
Books and comics for the past in the universe (I know Marvel all ready has a set standard for comics past, but that is why there are so many SW fill in coming out. Episodes will be like their Avengers. Spinoff will be more like the individual character plot or story movements. Feeding in but not the main plot point.
