I played (and still play) and old, old game called X-Com about aliens invading Earth. Occasionally they would terrorize a city and I would have to send my forces to fight them. Novosibirsk was one of the cities they would terrorize.

I'm originally from Lynn, MA, just north of Boston. Now I live in George Lucas' home town of Modesto, CA.

I was born in the great city of Toronto. But don’t live there anymore. Used to go back often, but it’s 2021 so that doesn’t happen as often

Oh, was it? It's been decades since I played the original X-Com. I believe, only UFO: Aftermath (and possibly Xenonauts) represented Russian architecture somewhat accurately.

I am from the newest part of the Netherlands. The following map shows the northern half of the Netherlands. From 1930s onwards the Netherlands started creating ‘polders’ (land reclaimed from the sea). I live in Almere, which until 1967 was open water. In 1975 (yes, 2 years before the release of ANH) the first houses were build in Almere. Today, Almere has a population of 215.000 which makes it the 8th largest city population in the Netherlands. It is predicted to reach the top 5 in the near future.

One of the reason why it was build and why its population growth has been exponential: its in close proximity to Amsterdam. You can drive from the centre of Almere to the centre of Amsterdam in 25 minutes. A lot of people, myself included, live in Almere and work in Amsterdam.

Close to my office you can find these kind of views. I love to be in Amsterdam as it has a great atmosphere.

Finally, my fiancé is from Hungary, so Budapest has become sort of a second home to me. I believe Budapest is a highly underrated city, so if you ever have the chance to visit it, you should.

That's me! Glad to be part of this awesome forum and nice meeting you all digitally.

    welcome aboard!

I spent 5wks sailing up to the Baltic a few years back, which included cutting through the Dutch waterways past Gouda and up to Amsterdam. I know we passed Almere on the way to Enkhuizen, so not too far from you, before heading on to Borkum and then out to Helgoland.

Yeah, that indeed makes sense. One hell of a sailing trip you made then! The Baltic states are high up my list of countries I still want to visit (because I have seen most of the European countries by now, but I have not been in that part of Europe yet). Also cool that you went to Helgoland.

Good to see more and more Dutchies coming to the Cantina!

I drive through the "polders" regularly each year, on my way from Friesland to my friend who lives close to Breda.
At Almere I have to take the exit from the A6, to take the A27 southbound. :)

I'd love to visit Hungary. My uncle now lives there, near Szigetvár. He and his girlfriend moved there last year, after having used the house for years as a vacation home. Alas I never got the chance to go there. :(

Yeah, I live pretty close to the A6-A27 intersection. Whenever you pass through there, you can always send me a PM and if I have time we can get a coffee or something. We can even do a Dutchies meet up later this year, when the covid-measures are gone. I believe there are quite a bit of Dutchies at the Cantina based on this thread. Would be nice to organize something.

Hungary is beautiful. I really love the Balaton lake too, which is very doable to visit from Szigetvár. I am actually getting married this summer in Hungary. It's going to be a bit tricky with the measures, but we will see. We made contracts with the service providers of our wedding the month before Corona hit Europe. If we would have known what was going to happen we would have waited off course, but hopefully we will be all right.

Yeah, when I've had my shots (Rabies, Malaria, Covid and the like.. :p) and the restrictions have been lifted, it could be fun to do a meet-up of "The Dutch Batch"!
Also a combo meet-up with a few Brits and/or Jerry's could be an idea! There's lots of those here too!
And should the need arise, I have a spare bed and an airmatress in my house... (or the garden-shed... depending on how drunk you are... :D)

Yes it is! I hope I get to go there in the forseeable future. ;)

Congratulations! Is it going to be a traditional wedding?

That would be such an awesome experience! :)

The Dutch Batch.:D Nice. Let's see again in a few months. Perhaps somewhere in Autumn, or next year Spring or something (if some Brits and Jerry's want to join).

Great picture, but no. :p It's just going to be an 'international' customs wedding. My fiancé hates Hungarian wedding traditions, so that settled it. We might name the diner tables after Star Wars planets though. ;) That was actually her idea.

She always liked Star Wars, but I made her watch Clone Wars and Rebels and now she is a big Ahsoka fan. (ahsoka)
She also likes Hayden and shirtless Kylo a bit too much to my liking though... :p;)

But yeah, she is very supportive. I couldn't have asked for more really.

I am bored and I looked this up on Wikipedia:

The first international T.J. Maxx store opened in Bristol, UK, in 1994. The company modified the name to TK Maxx to avoid confusion with the established British retail chain T. J. Hughes (which is not affiliated with TJX).
