Oh the sweet, sweet irony of it too.

I agree it won't change this series because we won't get far enough into the future.

It's silly to you, but facts are important to me. They are used to make sense.

I'm sorry but RJ was pushing Reylo big time. The line "You fell for a pretty set of eyes" was removed but almost made the cut.

I could really do without the whole romance angle in this trilogy. It's not like there wasn't potential from TFA but the events in TLJ make it hard to stomach for me. Finn/Rose came totally out of the blue and felt extremely forced, they had no chemistry and that kiss felt so off. Finn and rey made sense because they were both totally alone their whole lives, had some chemistry and were each others first real friend but really, Rey has more important stuff to deal with and Kylo has gone beyond reluctant, misunderstood bad boy into irredeemable psychopath territory. I could see a force related redemption, but I'd find it hard to stomach seeing him so easily forgiven that he has his own happy family.
Poe and Rey maybe, but it's a bit late in the game to establish that now and like I said, Rey has a more important journey to go on. Maybe in future comics or something but I don't think it's important enough to devote a lot of screen time to.

More important stuff... Why not have both? I don't get why she should have to choose anyway and only should focus on one thing?

What is the motivation for romance, and with whom?

One of the central points to Rey's character is a quest for belonging and family.
    So...that?

She already has that. That was the point of TFA.

    No, it really wasn't.
That told you what her internal struggle was. (meets the "good guys" and "bad guys")
TLJ told you it wasn't going to be found in her past. (tempted by the "bad guys" and her past but realizes she needs to be with the "good guys")
Ep9 should be her finding it. (Ending up with the "good guys")

Eh, her only two connections in that film are in a coma and dead at the end. She hugs another person and leaves. That film was solely the 'threshold' moment where she has to realize there's nothing on Jakku waiting for her....or rather that she should be waiting for.

TLJ was the the Garden of Eden's Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil moment - between young and old (Luke) and the duality of Kylo and Rey:

    Campbell:

"Then comes the idea of good and evil in the world. And so Adam and Eve have thrown themselves out of the Garden of Timeless Unity, you might say, just by that act of recognizing duality. To move out into the world, you have to act in terms of pairs of opposites.”

Thus the symbolism of the Yin-Yang Jedi figure on Ahch-To, and of Finn's temptation by DJ.

So. Her most important connection is still alive, and if I can recall. She was by his bedside until it was time for her to leave for Achtoo. Finn coming back for her was the moment she could leave Jakku behind. People who cared for her were right here, so going down that road again in TLJ was a waste of time, money, and film. She was already satisfied with her answer with Finn. Besides Maz told her they were never coming back, and Rey acknowledge it too.

What knowledge did we learn about this duality? How does it work? and why?

I don't see any duality between Rey and Kylo. Just two force users where one is a man and the other is a woman. One who wants to go further than his grandfather, and the other whose purpose I don't understand. Two characters with different motivations.

The entire film presents the concept of duality, most blatantly in the design of that Jedi symbol. In Luke's language "powerful light, powerful dark", Snoke's language "darkness rises, and light to meet it", in Kylo and Rey in the throne scene where Rey leans back and Kylo forward to form...a Yin Yang, in the contrast between red and white on Crait, Rose and Paige Tico's symbol.

    Lineage (Ben) vs. Non-Lineage (Rey)
Preservation of the Jedi Religion (Rey) vs. Burning it all down (Ben)
Preservation of Life/Love (Rose/Leia/Holdo) vs. Destruction of Life (First Order)

Both of the protagonists pursue these things. If Rey had no intention, then she would have just left Luke with the books to burn, or left the broken lightsaber, but she's like us and wants to preserve the Jedi, while Ben wants to burn all of it. We talk about all of this on multiple forums here it's almost exhausting, lol.

So by preserving the Jedi she'll just end up making all the same mistakes again.

For a series that takes pride in claiming they drew inspiration from westerns and old 30s adventure stories/films, they sure left out one of the most crucial elements: romance.
That is one of the reasons why I believe Solo to be the truest authentic Star Wars films of the post-Disney era: it had romance (in addition to the other stuff) and wasn’t scared to show it.

Nobody, particularly. Finn seemed interested in Rey at first, but their relationship seems to have developed into friendship. There's potential for Rose and Finn, but he looked confused over the kiss more than anything.

The most likely scenario would be Finn and Rose as that was at least partially set up in TLJ. Rey and Finn seemed possible until the end of TFA where it seemed to allude they were just friends. In TLJ they were apart for just about all of the movie until the very end and there was the hug but there did not seem to be any romantic vibes with it. Poe and Rey had a small moment at the end of TLJ but it maybseemed forced if they try to go that way IX

I do think there is romance, it just isn't as prevalent as most other trilogies. I think in the next addition we'll see more defined romance.
