With my wife actually. I don't think she'd like it too much if we wallpapered our dining room with a picture of a grown man in a princess costume. Better Homes and Gardens seriously frowns on that sort of thing unless the dining room is formal. Ours is more country casual, so I think you belong in the bedroom.

I enjoyed that. Send me a PM. Let's take this costume party offline. So says Dwell magazine.

So you're a guy and you are dressed right now in the costume of a princess? As in like a dress?

    Just wanted to be sure.

"Dressed" makes it sound so pedestrian.

Whoever they like I'd imagine. Whether that be Rey, Finn, Poe, Han, Leia, Chewy, BB-8, or anyone else. When I was a kid I liked all the characters from the OT, good or bad. Of course I was always a good guy, but I never thought of it as identifying with any one character for any specific reason. Even though Luke is my favorite character I identified with Leia, Han, Lando, Chewy, etc. as much I did Luke. I loved them all. Of course we're all unique, as are the characters, and maybe I am reading too much into your question, but this desire to separate people or identify with a character based on gender or background seems a tad divisive to me. My son is an infant and, as he gets older, I will encourage him to identify with whoever he wants to whether that be Rey, Finn, Luke, or C3PO. I would hope other parents would do the same and not try push their own agenda onto them.

I take it back, Rey's costume actually does look pretty overtly feminine:

    Rey costume.jpg
The boots, the belt and where she wears it, the legs exposed, the way the arms are exposed like a dress, the "skirty-ness" of it, the way the shirt is cut around the neck/chest....all very feminine/girly. Even the things she's got on her forearms look girly, almost like evening gloves.

Which is good, I think, since Rey is a girl.

Whereas Luke Skywalker's A New Hope outfit still looks guy-ish and masculine:
Luke Skywalker costume A New Hope.jpg
The boots, the belt, the way the costume doesn't expose him much at all...he looks very "heroish", while still peasant/"humble" or "poor" enough...

Rey and Luke both look like they'd be from the same planet based on their clothes...Luke looks like he's wearing what the guys would wear, and Rey looks like she's wearing what the chicks would wear...

I have been trying to picture a man or boy wearing that costume...and it's proving to be quite difficult.

And yep, that Luke costume actually looks similar to what is worn traditionally in Nigeria by guys.

I would be really curious to see a picture of a boy or guy dressed up in that Rey outfit.

I agree, but I'm not that curious. XD

I still think female stormtrooper outfits are weird.

Ha...well, I'm just curious to see if I can be proven wrong.

I thought the male and female stormtroopers all wear the same outfit?

I got yelled at by someone for simply stating that in my opinion, I think guys should dress and act like guys and girls should dress and act like girls. It is such a sensitive subject by today's standards. Your gender is assigned to you before you are even born. I find it strange looking at boys in Barbie commercials. Barbie's are marketed towards and made for girls. Having a female lead for the new Star Wars trilogy is absolute genius, but I don't think little boys should aspire to be a strong female character. They should aspire to be a male character like Finn or Poe. Men are Men and Women are Women. If you disagree with me or get offended, I don't care. Dislike the comment, I'm just stating my opinion.

Perhabs it isn't the best argument to reference an of the shelf 'sexy' Halloween costume there.

I'd like to quote JJ from this article:

That's right: Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma wasn't the only female in armor. "We had women in stormtrooper costumes in the movie," Abrams says, so audiences will be seeing a mixed gender fighting force from The First Order whether they realize it or not. (The armor isn't form-fitting, of course.)

I never bought into this "boys are equally likely to want to dress up like girls and girls are equally likely to want to dress up like boys" stuff. That's not to say that you can't like or love a character of the opposite gender, or even be inspired by one. But this idea that there is no meaningful biological influence in who children physically identify with is fantasy.

If that wasn't the case then there wouldn't be a push to have more girls in SWs by introducing more girls into SWs.

Young boys should aspire to be Chewbacca or Finn based off Disney's advertising, but I guess you could say Kylo Ren for all those
"bad boy" types out there as well.

You are right, my friend. But we live in a different world now, where to even make such a comment means you are a caveman who lives in the dark ages.
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 20, 2015, Original Post Date: Nov 20, 2015 ---

Kylo Ren is the one that screams out, and if I was young it would be between Ren based on how cool he looks and Finn, because he uses a huge gun and a lightsaber.

Hmm, I'd say either BB-8 or Kylo. But he doesn't want to play Kylo because "him mean like Darth Vader."

To be fair I was going to use an "of the shelf" Luke costume, initially....

    Happy now? XD

Or are you determined to prove there are no gender specific outfits in Star Wars?

That's not what I meant when I said female stormtroopers, what I meant was female versions of stormtroopers:

    .......not stormtroopers who are female:

.....though that's also pretty weird too.

But I guess it makes sense, women have been enlisting in the armed forces as soldiers who are primarily for hand to hand combat and assault for some time now, even if it doesn't make much sense considering the average woman is at a physical disadvantage to the average man in a combat situations...that's not necessarily an issue with Star Wars though, more society in general I guess, but still....
