Lmao I do like the idea of female stormtrooper... cause they all have to have their masks off

All hunting for that nerd cred. Phasma is a true female storm trooper

Lol yeah, I couldn't find one of the boob armor with the mask on, lol, although I know I have one somewhere....

Eh, I guess so....I consider her a female in guy armor, but whatever. Not like having molded boobs would serve much of a purpose anyway.

That said, she's not the first time we've seen a female character in Star Wars who's dressed kinda like a dude.

The bounty hunter chick from Episode 2 was kinda like that:

Even looks a bit like Rey's outfit in a way come to think of it:

I get what you're saying, but I think phasmas armor works. The same with the idea that there are female stormtroopers in the force awakens, you just can't really tell.

Isn't that the point though? They're supposed to be one entity. No difference. No true face. Just a bunch of the same. (Which I'm certain lead to the idea of clone troopers, no matter how odd)

It's why finn stuck out in that carrier, he was the shortest, he was different.

Phasma sticks out because of color and cape, not because she's flashing award winning smile.

Phasma and the force awakens storm troopers aren't out for compliments. They're out to look threatening.

That's true. It's very Brave New World and totalitarian, no celebration of individualism. Very Empire-ish, I do agree. Kinda like the dystopian, sterile, unisex/genderless and sexless world of THX-1138:

I wonder if that was part of the intent or just plain irony...

Say what you will about George Lucas, but the man is a genius. Our society looks a little more like the one Lucas predicted in his cautionary THX-1138 tale every day....

....combine that with Lucas' war on terror Republic crumbling from within (as they always do) to become an Empire in the prequels, his one with nature/anti-being-solely-dependent on technology message in the original trilogy (Vader is more machine than man, most the bad guys are mechanical and mechanical looking, Luke stops being dependent on a machine to defeat the big machine), and I'd say George Lucas is probably aware of a lot of stuff most folks in their day to day activities are clueless about....

Now that the film is out....I am honestly not sure what character a young boy would want to be like in this film.

Can't be Leia, or Han, Rey, or Poe or Finn.

Kylo was the closest, until he got beaten badly in the end of a film. And one of my little cousins when he saw it, asked me

"How come Kylo got beaten by a girl?"

Had no idea what to say.

But I mean, what do you think? Which character do you think would resonate most with young boys in the way luke, han and leia did back in the originals films?

I think Poe Dameron would fit well for young boys to aspire to. To me he has the feel of a Han Solo character. Very cocky and nature of mind gives off confidence in his character in the movie. I feel like Poe will take over the Falcon in Ep. VIII while Rey goes with Luke and learns the force. Poe Dameron. I agree...

May the force be with you always...

Poe is like the only option....

Finn is a try hard who always loses and tells jokes and probably wont get the girl.
Kylo is a whiny over emotional brat who cant get anything done.

Poe is a least a cool fly boy.

And if anyone asks, just grin and explain, "It's short for Reymond."

I think both girls and boys should look up to Finn, Rey, Poe, and Han in TFA. Rey for honoring her promise and her deal, even at the cost of her own dream. Finn for doing what was right, even when he was afraid for his life, clearly outmatched, and society told him he was or should be something else (a mindless stormtrooper or a traitor). Poe for trying (and succeeding) to make friends with those who could and should be his enemy. For teaching and believing in someone, he changed their life. And Han for giving advice and looking out for some kids he didn't have to (and he admittedly tried to shuffle off his ship). Han again for trying to believe and redeem in his son the way I think only a parent or a child can.

It's worrisome that you struggled to find an answer. The answer is that girls and women can be strong. Why couldn't you say that?

    Yep.

But think of what young boys are into? Is there anything really exciting like Darth Maul, or Luke with his lightsaber that would propel them to get the toy and really inspire them? In a visual sense
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 22, 2015, Original Post Date: Dec 22, 2015 ---
He's a young boy. So I should tell him that girls can beat him up to? Or he should fight girls?
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 22, 2015 ---
So boys should want to get the toy or dress up as Leia or Han? Two characters MUCH MUCH older than them and not hip or cool or visually striking?

I actually liked Greg Gunberg's pilot character. It's a peripheral character, but seemed more believable than Poe Dameron in a dogfight.
