Honestly, I liked Maul's cameo better. Vader is a better villain for me, no contest, but I loved what Maul's appearance could possibly mean for a prospective sequel to Solo. Also, Qi'ra was my favourite character in Solo, so that reveal was a really cool development for me.

I'm honestly torn, I think Vader's appearance gave R1 more weight and an epic final scene, but Maul's really opened up the possibility for future stories. I chose Vader, but that's because it fits within the story and made sense, Maul's just comes out of nowhere and doesn't really add all that much to the film itself. If Rebel's were still ongoing and we hadn't already seen how Maul's story ends, I might feel a bit differently. Imagine Maul being revealed in Solo, and then having his story continue throughout Rebels; Qi'ra could even have become a recurring character. This is one reason I want Solo 2 to happen, or at least have Qi'ra make appearances in Disney Plus shows (The Cassian series could, in theory, do this).
