    Hello Cantina mates!

I saw this around Internet and I thought it would be a good topic for discussion, now that we have more material to discuss.

Focusing only so far in the movies and animated series, which death do you think was the saddest of them all?

Here I go.... Alright, I cried a lot with Han Solo's death, but so far after watching Rogue One and reading Rebel Rising I got to admit there is a tie with Cassian and Jyn. (Blame that "Your Father Would Be Proud" beautiful and poignant theme).

If you think of another I missed in the poll, let me know!

May the Force be with you always!

    Difficult to choose.

Han's death was poignant because he was one of the original Big Three and because he died at the hand of his son, while trying to save him. On the other hand, no one lived fuller life than Han Solo.

I voted for Cassian and Jyn, because of their youth, because their lives had been so difficult and, because, in the end they found solace in each other. That theme also kills me every time.

My other choice is Satine. Obi-Wan was always my favorite character and I like to imagine a life he could have had with Satine. The fact that he even contemplated leaving the Order for her, tells me he truly loved her. And her last words always break my heart: "Remember, my dear Obi-Wan. I loved you, always. I always will..."

You could cite the whole Rogue One group really... it was all well signposted and ultimately had to happen to allow the story to make sense, but it was still harsh. A teen next to me in the theatre cried when
    K2-SO was taken down
    , but I thought
    Baze's reaction to Chirrut's death
    was the saddest bit.

    I'd have to vote
    Solo
too, which was sad for me as he and Indy were my childhood heroes - so seeing either of them ended was a bit of a sucker punch to my youth, even when I knew it was coming.

*apols for the spoiler tags - I'd rather overdo it than have someone flame me ;)*

I guess it's hard to choose. I guess the ones I have ended up tearing up have been Han's (obviously), Cassian/Jyn, Satine's. With Maul, Yoda and Anakin of course there is a knot on my throat and they are so emotional too.

Right now I am almost done with Rebel Rising and seriously, if I thought the galaxy never gave a break to Princess Leia, things were harsher for Jyn Erso. And even when I have been asking for some more material regarding Cassian's background story, I daresay it will be in some way as tough as it was developed for Jyn. so no chances here to stop having tears every time I see the ending of Rogue One.

I am there with you regarding Han: the circumstances of his death were totally poignant, plus the fact that we didn't see him onscreen again with "the kid" (his friend Luke). However, he lived a fuller life, as you mentioned.

The poetry on the deaths of Qui-Gon, Satine and Maul is that the three of them died in the arms of Obi-Wan. In terms of the whole picture, Obi-Wan is like the glue that keeps the saga together in so many aspects: he was there at the death of his mentor, his love and his foe.

Solos death wasnt even that sad, I expected it to happen as soon as Ford was announced to play Han again in TFA.

    I vote for Anakin Skywalker.

Han and Qui-Gon Jinn. If you think about it they are kinda similar deaths. Through the chest while others watch helpless.

Although I knew Han's death was coming I didn't know Qui-Gon was gonna die. It was a shock as much of a shock as when Obi Wan killed Maul.

When Star Wars died after Disney bought, repackaged and remade it in their own twisted image.
Even the crappy prequels are better than the unoriginal blast that Disney have been making.

    RIP Star Wars 1977-2012

    :(

i don't know if it was shock or just expectation, but Han's death still isn't sad to me ~ i'm still filled with hope that it has purpose.
same reason i couldn't be sad for Obi-Wan. of course i am sad Han is gone. but for now, his story isn't finished yet.

Anakin Skywalker gets my vote because i actually cried like a little girl in the theatre when he died (in fairness i was a little girl).
and because even though he returned from the Dark, he only had such a brief moment to know his son and never got to know his amazing daughter.

Someone might be chopping onions nearby...

But you are right. Especially since at the moment of his death, you can listen to the notes of The Imperial March on a slow and sadder tempo.

Of course we can argue as much as we can that had he survived maybe the path for him would not be as pleasant so there was no other choice to kill him, but the fact that his daughter was not able to witness her father's redemption back to the light - even if it was a result of Lucas last-minute fixings to the trilogy - are really hard and poignant for the future of the galaxy as we know it.

there's a reason those Darth Vader & Family books are so dang popular: that wishful feeling about unfinished business and/or the tragedy of "might've been". : D

I just thought of something. If Rey is not a Skywalker we'll never get "Luke's Baby Girl".

It's a toss up between Anakin Skywalker and Qui-Gon Jinn.

Anakin - His chronicles from innocent child to dreaded Sith Lord to redemption is very profound and satisfying. He overcame his errors to restore Balance of the Force by destroying the Sith. In the process he showed compassion for his son. His son showed him the love that only Padme could see in him. The good in him.

Qui-Gon - His death was my first experience with this sort of thing. I can still remember the images in my head of seeing him die at the hands of Darth Maul all those years ago. I even have flashbacks when I see it to this day. It's quite interesting to look back though and see Darth Maul in quite a different light in part because of Rebels. He's no long just a menace, but a character who didn't have much of a choice of who he wanted to be. He was a victim to Palpatine. He was a victim to the Sith.

I always thought that Shmi Skywalker's death scene was really sad, you really feel for Anakin here as well. Really tragic. This would get my vote.
