lol, i'm not sure i have the imagination to come up with something.

perhaps a place and time where the force is only just being discovered there?
i don't know, but anything i think of sounds like an old republic idea or just a slightly different version of what we have seen in this saga.

it's difficult, because if it's set 1000 years after/before this saga and in a completely different galaxy then we will need to get used to the idea that we won't see lightsabers.. we wont see Jedi knights. some ppl have gone nuts because there wasn't a lightsaber duel in TLJ... expectation is a 'muther' in this franchise, and it'll be a brave man/woman to venture a long way outside of what has come before and still use the tag 'Star Wars'.

I'm kind of with people of the no lightsaber mentality though. I'm not ready to go without lightsabers. This trilogy will be like the new main canon as the Skywalker trilogy is currently. A new main trilogy without sabers would be so odd IMO. I AM however open minded and judging by TLJ, this new trilogy will definitely require me be be just that. I'm just hoping it's not a bad thing.

lol, i'm in that place too.. i want something fresh and new, and yet i still wanna see lightsabers! (duel)

canon is an interesting topic here. despite calling for something new, i'd prefer it if a new trilogy 'added' to current canon.. and didn't have it's own.
yeah i know... expectations lol. RJ will get panned by someone no matter what he makes lol

Dark Times for me. Have a story following a small freighter crew that gets caught up in the burgeoning Rebellion and goes on the run from the Imperial Security Bureau. Or a story following members of the Bounty Hunter's Guild as they try to maneuver the delicate politics of the new order while staying alive in the face of rival hunters. Or a crime thriller involving the major criminal organizations of the galaxy like The Hutt Clans, Black Sun, The Son-tuul Pride, and the Droid Gotra. There are so many possibilities.

I would love to see a trilogy about the creation of the Sith Order starting with the Jedi outcasts. I think that would be phenomenally interesting.

Just listened to the Collider Q&A with Rian Johnson, and I do believe he confirms at about 34:40 that the new trilogy takes place after the current movies. He says "we are forging ahead in the timeline". So much for those rumors...

EDIT: Listened to it again, when he says "this new trilogy" he's referring to episodes 7-9... but the question and answer may still apply to his own trilogy.

I voted for Old Republic era. While I doubt it would include Revan or anyone like that if it was, it is still nice to dream. I also think a Movie/ Trilogy from the Empire's point of View would be cool. Imagine the OT from Vader's point of view.

I think the issue is if you change the sand box so much and remove so many things that makes star Wars star wars whats the point making a Star Wars film? it becomes that you are just using the Star Wars name to sell a very vaguely connected Scfi story.

In my humble opinion (for what it's worth) the fight in the Throne room between Rey & Kylo with Snoke's Elite Praetorian Guard more than made up for not having a lightsaber dual. Of course I loved Rogue One, and it didn't have one either.

Personally I'd love to see something prior to the Prequels. Maybe either explore the story of Tarre Vizsla and the Darksaber and/or the Mandalorian-Jedi War ?

Far back in time, before the Old Republic. I want to see an army of Sith vs an army of Jedi.

However, Rian will probably make something completely different that is irrelevant to the major events of the galaxy.

I loved the Jedi Apprentice books that featured young Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. I don't want a rehash of those stories, or even something that features those characters, but in general I was always fascinated by the galaxy dynamics at that time period.

I'm thinking pretty much exactly this. Even possibly use this to set up a new conflict for a future saga entry to allow migration from rebel/imperial circles for a while.

I think the 'where' will be more important than the 'when' for this film. If they place it far enough away from our 'normal' galaxy, then it won't matter the time-setting.

I'm really looking forward to it though.

The prequels were fine. They were fine. Some of the stuff didn't resonate with me, but they were solid enough.

If they could do that like they did the Darth Vader comic or Thrawn, a story from the Imperials' perspective would be a nice change of pace.

Now that we know we'll be getting at least two spin-off trilogies, I'd like one to be TOR Jedi VS. Sith and one to be anything taking place after the ST. But as @Ruralfarmboy pointed out, beggars can't be choosers: just give me a trilogy of stories and I'll listen to it!

It took longer than I expected to finally cast my vote, even though I did still just end up going with my first instinct.

The difficulty in choice came due to simply wanting new movies in each one of those eras!

'Before the prequels' is what I settled on. I think RJ is the perfect person to set up the world prior to the prequels.

I also think it should be from the perspective of the Darkside. Which has not been done before in SW.

Show us something along the lines of Darth Bane's Legends story.

I voted for before the prequels, however with the GOT creators also on board for new movies I dont think that RJ's trilogy will be set in that time periode.

Rian Johnson's style seems to be something dark, gritty and personal (Brick, Looper and TLJ), so the Empire's time would be most fitting. The Old Republic should go to B&W.

I agree i think RJ's style would lend itself well for a story covering the Fall of the Emprie/ Rise of the First Order era.
