Yeah, I'm only picky when it comes to the movies and tv shows. ;) I do also want to read the Anakin And Obi-Wan, Son of Dathomir, and Darth Maul miniseries. As well as getting really caught up on the main Star Wars ongoing series, the old Darth Vader series, the new Darth Vader series when that comes out, and possibly Doctor Aphra. Plus those ST ones. That's a lot, but are there any of these comics you really recommend/don't recommend?

Darth Vader is good (old and new)! i started Anakin and Obi-Wan but for some reason it just didn't hold my interest.

maybe @PrincessLeiaCB3 can speak to the merits of Doctor Aphra! : D

Ok, thanks! Doctor Aphra seems interesting, but it's not high on my priority list.

Lol thanks for the shout out!

Well, so far her own series is alright, it is not like great but I'm reading it since it is including some new stuff about really old information about the galaxy - the Ordu Aspectu - and it will tie later on a crossover with the main Marvel Star Wars comic so that's why I'm basically following on.

Okay, thanks! I'll probably read the first few issues of Doctor Aphra after I get caught up on the main Star Wars series in preparation for Screaming Citadel. Lots of readin' to do...

I have read most of the new canon novels (except the new OT novelizations) and I would say that "Bloodlines" is #1, it was the first book (publish date not chronology) to mention the First Order. The Aftermath trilogy is good but I think you could read "Empire's End" and all the preludes from the three books and it would make a good refresher. Then I would reread "Lost Stars" because it really opened up the universe by following characters outside the main troupe.

Happy rereading and may the Force be with you!

About 2 months before Rogue One came out I started a marathon of audiobooks, movies, tv shows, and 1 actual book with pages (Aftermath... ugh... sadly this was before I discovered the efficiency of audiobooks). I just finished this month. It went like this:

    1) Darth Plagueis - Even though it is Legends it still makes the prequel movies so much better... will continue to start all marathons with this until they replace it.
    2) TPM
    3) AOTC
    4) The Clone Wars - Selected episodes; zeroed in on Saw Gerrera ones for RO
    4) Catalyst
    5) ROTS
    6) Tarkin
    7) Ahsoka
    8) Rebels - Select Episodes (Tarkin, Geonosis, etc.)
    9) Catalyst - One more time before the movie!
    10) RO
    11) ANH
    12) ESB
    13) ROTJ
    14-16) Aftermath 1-3
    17) Bloodlines
    18) TFA

Next up: Thrawn! After that I think my audible credits will go to Lost Stars and Battlefront: Twilight Company based on this thread's consistent recommendations for these books. I would also agree with the strong praise for Bloodlines after listening to it again directly after Aftermath 3. Empire's End only made Bloodlines better! My recommendation is Catalyst because of how much it enhances Rogue One. I hope they continue to make novels like this that lead you directly into the movies. It is such a cool experience.

    Quick question...
Have you read any of the new canon books?

I have to agree with some of your statement. Some books lack originality and are dull, then again some of the newer books are well written and a few do have innovative ideas. Yes they tend to ride on the SW theme, but again they are SW stories. LOTS, Bloodlines, Tarkin, Battlefront, Catalyst, and Thrawn are some good reads that are not YA conceived just to name a few. Lost Stars is a YA book, but it is very good.

The new comics are good too. Vader, Star Wars, Han solo, and Maul are my favs for now.

Now when it comes to non-canon books; I love Plagueis and the Thrawn trilogy that you mentioned. I also liked the Solo trilogy. I have fun with the books and I believe that is why most people read these books; they are fun. If you haven't read any of the new ones, try one any one, you might get a surprise. Then again some of the new books are guilty of what you said. Some are definitely avoidable.

Aftermath: Empire's End is not a boring Star Wars book. If you read the entire trilogy the pay-off is with Empire's End great book.

I will definitely be retreading Thrawn again plus the TPB of the Vader series.

@77th That is a most impressive list, I have read nearly half of it. My favorite SF authors are Haldeman (Forever War the best SF novel ever in my opinion) and Farmer's Riverworld series. Understand a long developed movie adaptation of Forever War may be finally moving along, with Ridley Scott directing. Sincerely hope they keep the core ideas of the book intact and make Mandella the anti-hero.....worried that it may turn into another massive CGI fest.....

Dark Discipline I have read a few times. Its fun to experience the Jedi without it being the main characters. Quinlin interacts with the Jedi Council and low-lifes the same, the informational drops preloading order 66 gave me goosebumps, and Christie Golden really does a great job making us feel the force. Quinlin Vos and Assajj Ventress's love story is one of the greatest ones told, it was a shame it never made it to the screen in Clone Wars.
Mister Bones also make me happy to read, any of the Aftermath books are great. I enjoyed Chuck Wendigs erratic writing.
