    The greatest, most talked about opening in movie history --- A New Hope!!! Totally blew away audiences in 1977, nothing EVER seen like it previously. Morning news shows were talking about this opening shot for weeks.

    People were just awestruck, some sat in stunned silence, some brought to tears immediately with pure joy, others screaming in joy. I was there, in the theater in 77, and witnessed this firsthand.

    It STILL holds up so well even 41+ years later.....

    Hands down I have to say A New Hope. When I sit here drinking my coffee its the only opening that really gets me excited about what is to come next and that is what an opening scene should do. I think I can still remember the first time seeing that star destroyer come into view.

    Definitely eerie and also, I believe, the only one that pans up. Very cool.
