Who are watching Lovecraft Country? :D

Yeah, I feel like "Lovecraft" has become synonymous with dark, beautiful prestige cosmic fantasy- something like this:



When really, Lovecraft was a pulp sci-fi writer whose vibe was equally this:




I think Lovecraft Country really captures that pulpy vibe well, even if it's not what Lovecraft might currently be popular for.


As for the show... I'm not sure. I kinda get the feeling I won't know how I fee about it until/unless next season. There was a lot going on this season (almost too much, really). I would've been happy if the storyline of the first two episodes was stretched out over a full season, even (maybe still incorporating the Vietnam flashback in for a later episode, to break things up).

But... that's not as pulpy. It's not as monster of the week. Lovecraft Country had a vision, and while I might personally disagree with it at least it did its thing.

 

I haven't watched it yet, but I have a good feeling why people don't like it as much they should... gonna give it a go soon.
