    Let your theories roll!

My vote is for Anakin. The story of his rise was the beginning. Passing on the learnings of this story to the new generation of heroes could give them the information they need to defeat evil once for all.

The Skywalker family as a whole.

    And their undying legacy.

I think it's Kylo Ren, who throughout the course of the movie starts to live up to his Skywalker blood.
But going back to the "different Skywalker" idea that George Lucas had for Return of The Jedi would be amazing! Shocking and unexpected in a good way if done right.

Reading this forum in the last hour I think the Skywalker in tittle refer to:

A new order of jedi force users.

Luke became a legend, a myth in all galaxy. It makes sense that the jedi now come to be called Skywalker.

I don't know yet. I need to think on it for awhile. But it is like the last Jedi(single) and Skywalker is single and not Skywalkers.

I think the title could have a number of meanings:

The rise of Ben Solo (the last Skywalker), who redeems not only himself but also the legacy of Anakin Skywalker by finishing what he started

And I think it might refer to a new kind of Force user, as others have said. (It could refer to a new Force ability to, well, skywalk.)

I think it plays on something Snoke said in TLJ - "Darkness rises, and light to meet it. I warned my young apprentice that as he grew stronger, his equal in the light would rise. Skywalker, I assumed. Wrongly" It was Rey that was rising, once Kylo had risen.

Luke. We'll see him again in some form to counter Palpatine's spirit or whatever.

    There are several possibilities.

Kylo- The line Luke said, "No one is ever really gone," was said about Kylo to Leia in the context that we should never give up hope that someone might change.
    Rey Skywalker- SURPRISE
Rey Random- It will be about what makes you a Skywalker. Its more than a name.

I think Rey will just take Skywalker as her last name.

I'm leaning towards it being about, as mentioned above, a new generation of force users that adopt the title of Skywalker.

Looking at how the first two trilogy finale titles reference Force groups (Sith, Jedi), I'm going to guess that Rey adopts the Skywalker name and the new order of Force users that she founds become the Skywalkers. They are what 'grow beyond' the ancient Jedi/Sith conflict, etc.

    Just spit balling here but...

I think it means Luke will return to the physical world.

I think he'll be a loaner. Like he'll come back to help battle the imbalance in the force with the return of the Emperor and then go back to being a force ghost after he has completed his job, or maybe this kind of power would need a consequence. Example: He cannot go back to being a force ghost once he returns to help even if only for a short time.

I also think that Rey will adopt the name last name Skywalker at the end of the movie in honor of Luke

So maybe it has double meaning?

Excited to read some more awesome theories on this!

I’m convinced it references Ben Solo. There is some good in the guy, starting from the time he a) couldn’t kill his mom b) did kill Snoke c) ask Rey to rule the galaxy with him.
Episode 6 also ended with Vader turning good and this ST has been influenced by the OT in numerable ways.
What more convenient way to restore peace than have the main bad guy turn good? All the First Order’s hardware can instantly be turned into stuff for a New-New Republic. Problem solved. Remember, they only have one movie to get the job done.

That is the other obvious character the title is referring too.

If you think about it Rey has only ever know the dark side of the force. She downloaded her powers from Kylo according to the book of TFA. That is a very dark, vampire like power to have. Maybe she did the same to Snoke. The only lessons she learnt from the Jedi was that it was a failure. She gives into her emotions very easily. It would fit the story they have been telling so far for Kylo to turn to the light and Rey to turn to the dark side, or at least become a Bendu.

hopefully the Skywalker lineage as a whole - most chance to tell a more epic tale about the how the force works, how this family of users came about and their continued strength. maybe some previously 'dead' characters to step out the shadows or Whills to tie it all together :)
