    Hey, everyone --

I ask this question not as a detractor, but as an obsessive fan: Do you want the Saga (Skywalker bloodline/Empires and Jedi/C3PO and R2-D2/etc) to end at 9 episodes? I, for one, want it desperately. Not because I am dissatisfied with the sequel trilogy or am burned out on SW, but because it is not only what Lucas always planned* but because another trilogy in this same vein would be ridiculously repetitive. If Disney demands more SW (and of course they do), then it should go in a completely new direction. Continuously adding to the main saga will diminish all impact and eventually tarnish what we all hold dear, IMO (and yes, I am painfully aware that some feel the saga is already tarnished).

*I know Lucas once contemplated 12 episodes, but he also included spinoffs in that number....and he also changed his mind a lot. 9 has become ingrained in the cultural consciousness, and it's also a perfect number -- a trilogy of trilogies. 12 is just....wrong.

    If there r no more blood Skywalkers, if 3P0, R2 & the MF get destroyed then yeah i don't want 10, 11 & 12.

But i think Disney will do 10,11 & 12. Espically if the RJ Trilogy experiences "creative difficulties".

Definitely. It has to end at 9 else the “Tragedy of Darth Vader” story, which it is all about, will be diluted beyond recognition.

You mean "The story of the nobody who saved the galaxy with no effort"?

This saga is no longer about Vader. But i do agree with u.

Whatever. Death or otherwise, Kylo Ren is the living legacy of Darth Vader. Rey's role, through her connection to Ren, is to help inspire his redemption in whatever form that comes. I think death is likely, thus ending the Skywalker story for good...and in a positive way.

There was a story a while back on SWNN which indicated that Disney would definitely put the Saga on hold for a long time after 9... that they view it as a generational thing so we probably wouldn't see Ep. X for at least another 10-20 years. So it appears there is long-term plan for the saga to continue. Personally, I'm open-minded about it and my judgment will be reserved until we see what they do with it. As for Vader, his story concluded with ROTJ. So we've already gone well beyond that but his influence/bloodline may continue indefinitely as time goes on. For those against such a continuation take solace in knowing that you'll probably be dead before they reach Episode 20!

Before TLJ, I would have said yes, end it at IX. The Skywalker story would get too dragged out.
But TLJ successfully refocused the saga. It no longer has to just be about Skywalkers. So why not continue?

That said, I hope we get a break. I'd like to see Rian's trilogy be the next big thing they do, with stand-alone films in between. Wait until after that, then come back to the main Saga.

I am torn. We came into this trilogy being told that this was the continuation of the Skywalker family saga. While we are getting that-ish we have been introduced to some amazing new characters. On one hand, I want the Skywalker saga to wrap up. Not because I have grown tired of it, but because I believe that Star Wars transcends Skywalkers.

I do understand that to many fans Skywalkers are everything, so I do hope that they get what they want out of it too, but for me it is time to move on. I have always wanted to see the Skywalker blood line (stemming from Luke) live on. That is where my desires for the Skywalker saga to live on remains. I am disappointed but not upset that we didn't get that.

    I could go either way.

Being born in 1991, I grew up watching VHS copies of the original movies and the prequels shaped my childhood. But to me, Star Wars was always about so much more than the Skywalkers. As a kid, I had a decent toy collection, I'd play games like Shadows of the Empire and Battlefront. When I got older I'd watch The Clone Wars with my younger siblings, and eventually later I read the comics and watched Rebels.

The idea that the Skywalkers and Star Wars are inseparably linked is, to me, ridiculous. Despite what we've seen in most of the films so far, and as Rogue One demonstrates, Star Wars is a big galaxy and the Skywalker family's issues may heavily affect it, but they're but drops in the bucket of a much larger world.

If it isn't going to be about the Skywalker family, then I see no point in another trilogy of X-XII.

    Skywalker Saga or go home.

Let the Skywalker saga end with IX. Three trilogie's about Vader and his legacy is enough. Episode X (if it even is called EPX then) should be about something completely new (maybe with some reference to the Skywalkers).

But I think EPX is pretty far way. Rian's trilogy comes first.

The first film stands on it's own. No one was thought to be related to one another, and though Luke was the "hero", he also had other heroes (Obi-Wan, Leia, Han and Chewie, the Red and Gold squads) helping him on his way. We never thought it was about the Skywalkers then. There were other characters we loved just as much who were not blood related throughout the series, though the core was later Darth Vader and his legacy or Luke and his pals, the whole theme to me was really the power of love and friendship, and it seems to continue throughout the ST.

Based on what? They had seen his finished film before they offered him the trilogy. His finished film has grossed over a billion dollars. A portion of unhappy fans isn't going to change how they feel about Rian's work.

    this! ^ ^ ^

i don't mind if it ends, but i'm happy if it continues with these characters.

and why should anything have to end?
it's a whole galaxy full of possibilities with or without Skywalkers in it.

Well, All things (but One) End.
So, having that 'real world thought out the way, I like what @Jaxxon @TheBBP and @cawatrooper said.

Can't say I desperately want it to end at Episode IX.

There has been only One thing I've ever wanted from Star Wars in my Forty years as a fan of it - to be told a Story.
    Simple as that

Not "desperately", but it would be good to finally put a dot to the episodic storyline. It would be terrible to see Star Wars becoming the next "Saw" franchise with endless numbers of more and more forced and contradictory sequels...
Imo they should make the sequels about the rebirth of the Repiblic, then leave it.
