I love Star Wars. I really wouldn't want it to end but if it did, I would be fine. There will be plenty of other content to enjoy. I do think if it doesn't end, they probably need to take a break with the Skywalker saga for a bit, which I think they would, esp with RJ new trilogy coming.

    I do.

Hell, if it were up to me, Lucasfilm would just be doing a trilogy and no stand-alones at all, but that's just because there is grace within restraint.

Not much other strong reasoning here, it's simply because I believe things should have an ending, otherwise they run the risk of becoming Marvel (as much as I like those movies), or completely fumbling at some point, losing everyone, and the last thing I would want to see is the general public suffer from Star Wars Saga fatigue. End it on a high note.

A nice, neat trilogy of trilogies telling the life, times, and legacy of the Skywalkers.

I think they should treat this as the last ever Skywalker film and write it to wrap up the saga. I'd be amazed if they didn't make more one day, but they should do their best to provide a satisfying ending for now. What would be really annoying would be if they spend half of the next film trying to set up the next trilogy.

    It ended at 6.

    Episode 8 destroyed the story.

I am open to see the story continue with our new leads in a separate new trilogy after Rian's trilogy that might possibly crossover with Rian's to make it feel more tied up. The possibilities are open, with millions of ideas.

It will end at 9, but the legacy of the Skywalker's and all of our heroes will live on forever. That is the powerful message they are trying to convey to us. A multi diverse universe full of different species, of different beliefs, gender and ideologies can live harmoniously. That is something we can reflect onto our own world.

Star Wars was and is always ahead of its time, not just in terms of the technological advances it achieves but the messages that might not mean much now, but will in the future.

The Episodic films is the Skywalker Saga. George, JJ, Kathleen Kennedy, Bob Iger, (insert whatever name you want from from LF or Disney) has said that. "Star Wars" does not equal Skywalker, you are right. Star Wars transcends Skywalkers. However, "Episode" DOES equal Skywalker. Otherwise, why have "spinoff" films? If Episodic film does not need to involve the Skywalker family, then why don't we just call RJ's new trilogy (assuming it takes place some time in the future) Episode 10-12??

If Episode 10 and on were to not have Skywalkers that would be like JK Rowling having a Harry Potter book 8+ not involving the Potter family. If someone new coming into Star Wars were to ask you "Hey, this story I'm about to watch, what is the overall story?", would it not be strange to tell them "Well the first three quarters of the story (1-9) is about the Skywalker family but the last concluding bit (10-12) is about something else/random"

This thread has become about the Skywalker family instead of "ending at 9" but i c how its connected.

Ok i could c killing off the Skywalkers at the end of 9, beginnig of 10 but hear is wut i dont get.

We are going 2 have Anthology movies not involving Skywalkers soon. A tv show. Even a Trilogy thats non episodic & Skywalker free. Rebels is 99% Skywalker free. So is FoD.

If were getting all that y kill them off by 10? Have them become side characters at least.

    Oh & 10, 11 & 12 will happen.

    Because, $$

I can c how they might make a story after 9. I can totally c that, but what i can't c is having them not have a Skywalker in some way. I can't c how u can tell a Skywalker story without a Skywalker. They need to bring back Luke Skywalker. i c how that could work, but not sure how it could work since we saw him do the die.

I'm sure 10, 11, and maybe even 12 will be made, because $$, but if there is no Skywalker, then i can't c how it's Skywalker movie. HOW can u have a Skywalker movie with no Skywalker?? Explain that??

    I can't c how. I c how u mite think it, but i can't c. c??

Forget the Skywalkers, what about the robots? No SW movie as far as i can c, didn't have the robots. The blue one and the gold one. They are just as Skywalker as Skywalker is Skywalker.

They need to if only for $$. $$ is all i c.

Maybe I’m in the minority here but I’m still fan of a GFFA because of the continuing Skywalker Saga. I don’t think there would have been anything wrong with Rey being a Skywalker as long as you keep the stories fresh. To me it’s not Star Wars without the Skywalkers as it is no different then The Godfather without the Corleone’s.

Now I totally get fans that want to move on in a new direction for Star Wars away from the Skywalkers. But TFA made 2.1 billion dollars introducing a new generation of Skywalkers (Ben) and still giving us the old generation with Luke and Leia so there is still market of fans who love the Skywalker Saga.

If the franchise moves on without the Skywalkers, then I’m just not interested. In saying that, it’s been a great ride!

As much as I don't like the Sequel Trilogy, Ben Solo is half a Skywalker. It would depend on what happens to him by the end of Episode 9. It may lead to something more interesting for the Skywalker saga for a future Trilogy so personally I'm not giving up on the Skywalker saga just yet. I don't like the idea of the skywalker saga to end on a bum note but I have a feeling Disney will do just that. I'm also happy if they introduce a whole new family to Star Wars and start a whole new Saga.

I’m on the same page as many here: end it with IX.

Do I want more stories with Rey, Poe, Finn, etc.? Heck yes! But do they then have to be part of the Skywalker Saga to i) garner interest and ii) make a lot of money? Heck no!

Please, LFL, branch out all you want; jump from one period to another; give us a new ensemble of characters to fall in love with and see ourselves in, strengths, weaknesses and all.

We all love Star Wars, and we all love the Skywalker story (to varying degrees), but we don’t love Star Wars because of the Skywalker name. We love it because of who these people are (Skywalker or not), the microcosms of humanity which they represent, and most importantly, the parts of ourselves which they can encompass at any time in our lives. We’ve all been that innocent child with nothing but pure and good intentions; that self-entitled villain to someone else, normally without even noticing it; that farm boy looking up at the sun and stars in awe of the world around us.

Every great story has an end, and a story can only be considered a story if it has an ending.

Star Wars isn’t a Wikipedia page.

I hope SW goes on for as many episodes as The Young And The Restless. Which, if I'm not mistaken, is still on.

Half a Skywalker? What would make him a full Skywalker? Both his parents being Skywalkers?

For me it all depends on if Kylo survives and is turned so that in 10 years time they chose do another trilogy they have a character of Skywalker blood continuing the storyline.

Yes, end the original SAGA story at 9.

Then do your own thing in the "sandbox" Disney/Lucasfilm. (as it appears you are now doing : RJ trilogy).

Although, one could argue they have done that with the new trilogy. They're not exactly marketed with the episode numbers...

Should have stopped at 6, and the new owners should have done their own thing from the off. IMO of course.

    Me.
I really hope the Skywalker Saga will end with ep. IX.
Make it the Trilogy of Trilogies, with an endgame that may allow us to
call it more properly... the Anakin Skywalker saga.

The Star Wars we know should only got 6 Movies:

    - Episodes I-II-III the fall of Anakin Skywalker and the rise of the Dark Side
    - Episodes IV-V-VI Anakin Skywalker Redemption and the new BRIGHT Future for the Galaxy

I believe this should deliver everything, establishing the canon story of the Galaxy but things just got writted and changed a lot during the time and didn't get a solid narrative structure instead we get a bunch of loose points and a huge amount of turnarounds and twists on the winds of the narrative team at some time but others will change everything afterwards and write new ones. Star Wars Movies should be considered as one Movie, all the 6 episodes are part of a bigger story, but they got changed so much from episode to episode that things got messy.

Then we could had a Star Wars Movie a Year, but the main story was over and it was time to tell new stories from that Galaxy, you could use our old characters or go with completely diferent ones but the story of the 6 Episodes is Locked Solid. I'm a big fan of Clone Wars and the show doesn't intercept the main story despite Anakin, Palpatine and Yoda.

And Why the Trilogies? (i know it brings more money than just a single movie, but it's more rewarding for the audience to watch a full story in one movie)

Lucas always intended the story to have IX episodes

    * the first trilogy revolving around the fall of Anakin Skywalker and birth of Darth Vader
    * the second trilogy revolving around Darth Vader's children and the redemption of the father
    * the third trilogy revolving around the legacy of the two Skywalkers: good and evil.

The third trilogy, as it plays out now, with the depressed Luke hiding in the Jedi ruins, being brought back by a girl nobody from a Junkyard, having to accept his own humanity and mortality, is exactly what Lucas intended. All the people who claim that the trilogy should have ended at VI don't have a clue what they are talking about. Everyone who is saying that VII and VIII are not what Lucas intended do not have a clue what they are talking about.

    :)

The Skywalker trilogy ends at IX. I'd love to see how it ends.
