I got the impression from The Last Jedi that Kylo Ren is no longer interested in trying to be Vader. By destroying his helmet and killing Snoke, he is becoming his own man not living in the shadow of Snoke or Vader. I think he is attempting to do what Anakin could not do. That is to create the type of government that Anakin proposed to Padme. He wants to setup the kind of dictatorship that will set everything right in the galaxy. And he wants Rey to rule with him just as Anakin wanted to rule with Padme. Maybe he thinks that a galaxy ruled by a husband and wife is the right way to bring balance as was prophecied. A galaxy ruled by the Yin and the Yang. So in that way, the saga is tied together with the prophecy of the chosen coming full circle.

The saga is also tied together by the story of the Jedi order. In the prequels we saw them at the height of their power along with their fall. In the OT we see Luke rise up and defeat the Sith. In the ST we see that Luke has recognized the failures of the old Jedi order and inspires a new and improved Jedi order to rise up. So Episode IX should end with the new order firmly established in the galaxy. The would make a complete story.

I don't think it will be some big thing that ties the saga together. But little things. And I don't know what those things will be.

Unless we have Luke, Rey and/or Kylo travelling into the past and revisiting classic moments, I don't see how this will tie in to the classic films. The previous two didn't open any saga-spanning plot threads for this film to expand on and close.

JJ Abrams stated that he liked TLJ and wished that he could have filmed TLJ. I believe that JJ has a plan to tie the saga all together, fan service, mystery box, and all! I'm optimistic, my expectations are intact, not expecting to see God, but a culmination of the Skywalker story that's satisfying.

I feel that the death of Carrie really hurt them in their planning process of wrapping IX, but once they figured out how to get over that speed bump, the rest of the film will speak for itself and move us to the answers we are looking for. I honestly don't expect answers to everything and I feel like we could have potentially even more questions after IX that will get answers down the road. JJ will not cease to surprise and amaze us once again. Can't wait to own a copy next year just to see the BTS reel as well. I imagine if this thing truly is tying together all 9 saga films, we will see JJ, Terrio, and the story group all working together to make the best ending possible.

Agreed - I just feel that reason for Kylo's view of Vader is lacking and so doesn't gel and instead feels forced for the story.

THIS. People who expect some plot connections will be severely disappointed. They are not going to pause their story to to fit in some 'connection'. But, like with TFA and TLJ, there will be thematic ties - I think.

Or, maybe Luke will sit on a log and tell another story of Darth Sidious. XD

That's going to be the problem. People's expectations. Some are going to expect Anakin showing up(he might, who knows), Rey to be Obi Wan's granddaughter, Qui gon jin, and many other things that are not even needed necessarily. But it will disappoint people.

I get that. It is something that happened between episodes 6 and 7, and we didn't get to see it. I don't think they have shown it in other materials (books, comics, etc.) yet. I think they will eventually, possibly after 9 comes out. Until then, we just have to go with it.

Understood. I just don't see the need for some information to be held back for other formats when there has been so much that could of been cut to make room for a drip feed of Saga linking information.

Good point. We got flashbacks and Luke explaining the past in 7 and 8. It would help if they did the same to give some more context to Ben's turn to the dark side. Maybe we will get that in 9. Maybe it will contain a twist that makes us look at Kylo Ren differently, or gives motivation for his redemption or other final acts.

    That's a no from me.

Yoda and Obi-Wan both literally ran and hid for decades. I've only seen T LJ wants, but I always thought this criticism was a little weak. He's portrayed very similarly to his mentors, particularly Yoda.
