Having seen two generations of Jedi use the same lightsaber, assuming Luke to still have his green one.
    who gets the light sabre?
Rey, is it significant as a Jedi tool to her.
    Kylo ren?

I think Luke is not a Jedi loving use his Lightsaber? Luke's mind is so strong enough to avoid the emperor's temptation at the last minute. I think Luke won't wield it again, the force is strong inside him, no need for lightsaber. But we will see his lightsaber fight again for sure.

I think that multiple characters will worked the blue one...including Poe, but it won't get passed down to anyone in particular but Luke will ignite his LIGHTSABER (the green one) once in this entire ST .

It called to Rey on Takodana.
It went to Rey on Starkiller.

In Harry Potter, it is said that "the wand chooses the wizard," in the new trilogy, it seems that the lightsaber chooses the wielder.

    @ArynCrinn
There is already a rich history, pre dating harry potter though, arthurian lore? the sword didn't choose him but it was his destiny to own it.
There has never been a lightsaber that has power unto it's self.
But an object is certainly valued more if it is desired by others.

Personally i didn't interpret it calling or doing anything to rey. Rey always had the force in her, lying dormant.
People of force ability can sometimes connect or possibly via residual transference.. feel, so i believe it to be a mixture of the two.

I do like how myths are generated around a sabre like this though.
From Anikin to Luke, its seen some blast for sure.

I agree - it would seem that the lightsaber "chose" Rey. I view Rey's attempt to give it to Luke at the end of TFA in terms of an attempt to get out of her destiny... she's trying to get Luke to bear her burden.

I think that Rey's subconscious called to it because her actual consciousness rejected it initially .

Well, technically speaking it was the Force... but the Force called to Rey via the lightsaber so I use the idea interchangeably... especially with Kylo Ren claiming that the saber is rightfully his possession, I've placed a lot of significance on this idea that the Force "chooses" Rey, not Kylo, to be the rightful heir of the saber. (I think its going to end up as a part of the plot on VIII and IX)

"That lightsaber was Luke's, and his father's before him and now it calls to you!"

i've gone for the obvious and selected Rey. I can't get past that line spoken by Maz.

until i see something concrete to the contrary.. I think Maz is telling her that her grandfather used it, then her father used it and now it's hers. i love all the speculation and mystery but my simple mind says that sometimes the obvious is.. well obvious.

the only doubt i have about Rey physically using the lightsaber is the fact that her chosen weapon on Jakku is a staff type thing... which sets up beautifully for her to end up with a double bladed lightsaber.

If Rey knew what that lightaber has been used for i doubt she would want it for her own personal use. I mean i wouldn't want that specific lightsaber either.

true, and i'm guessing that Luke would have said 'no thanks' to kenobi in ANH had he been given it's full history.

a part of me would actually like Luke to take up his old blue saber and use it again... but the green one did kinda suit him.

the KOTOR and TOR player in me is aching to see Rey find a crystal and construct her own lightsaber. Rian Johnson + John Williams could do something magical with a moment like this. i can but hope

IMO Rey as well, it called to her, the lightsaber chose it's owner, sorry Finn you were not worthy.

someone suggested the possibility of Kylo Ren and Rey flipping positions (her turning to the Dark and him returning to the Light). i doubt that will happen, but even if it did, i'd love to see Rey keep Anakin's lightsaber just for the incongruity of it.

also, it would be funny since he wants it so bad.

I like to see Rey build her own lightsaber...maybe a double bladed one. Would be cool that way she uses her staff more. But keep Anakin's lightsaber handy in case ....well in case if her staff gets split into two and loses one of the single lightsabers. Then she brings out Anakin's lightsaber and with the other single lightsaber still in her hand, she fights with both. She becomes a master at duel wielding unlike Anakin was.

Do you really think its like a wand?

I thought the scene with her was firstly the force guiding her, maybe i assumed it to be because she needed a weapon, or was about to face Kylo-Ren and it was guiding her to a real Jedi weapon kind of thing. as a force user.
because at that time the force had lay dormant it seemed that coming in to contact with something so steeped in history, in part awoke her own force ability?
there is no president for weapons being anything other than an inanimate object and i would prefer to keep them that way?
    do you disagree?

hey new starwarsy channel on you tube would appreciate any support,

It is like excalibur. The weapon appears to have some form of agency.

I'd rather prefer her to only use Anakin's sabre

the sword was steeped in mythical history but wasn't its power in how the possessor perceived it. he who takes it from the stone has the power to rule. so it became a talisman for the possessor nothing more. wasn't it?
