I bought the Chirrut action figures because he was the character that intrigued me the most from the trailers. I'm happy I wasn't wrong, great character.

While I can and do find things to admire and appreciate in each of the Rogue One characters, I ultimately voted for Chirrut in the poll for this discussion because he actively helps to preserve and protect the (as I see it) necessary mystical/spiritual aspect of Star Wars.

I felt he also helped to sustain the deeper humanity and peace ever at risk of being permanently eradicated in this midst of all the militaristic chaos and sufferings.

I would very much welcome a novel or comic series to have an opportunity to learn more about his character and role as a Guardian of the Whills, along with his fellow protector Baze.

There will be a "middle grade" youth novel by Greg Rucka coming out May 2 of this year about Chirrut and Baze. No word yet as far as I know about an adult novel or comic. (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rogue_One:_Baze_&_Chirrut)

    Cassian Andor.

I'd love a spy novel about some early adventures, maybe running into Ahsoka and getting undercover missions from Mon Mothma.

    Make it so!!!!!

    Oops, wrong franchise.

Chirrut was nice, I liked how they poked fun at the whole "blind samurai master" thing. He played a good part on the overall story, carrying some of the action scenes.

Overall tho Jyn was the best character by far. I like how they didnt dumb her down and make her one dimensional. She couldnt give a rats arse about the resistance at first but then they weave and turn her motive in a natural way.

The most disappointing was Bodhi...they could have done so much more with him! I was sad he was more an afterthought than anything.

At the end of the day they were all pretty good tho.

Welcome to the Cantina, @Paybak! I wish we could have had another 15-20 minutes for character development/background. I think that would have rounded the main cast out sufficiently, but I guess the powers that be had set themselves a strict time limit.

thanks! yeh especially with this being a one off movie, they should make these longer.

Best thing tho that happened is the fact that THE HEROES DIED! I cant stress how good that is to see that in a story. It makes them martyrs and larger than life.

Chirrut who might well be the best mystic non jedi character in Star Wars though I am ready to be proven wrong. I don't believe he was once a Jedi but some part of me likes to think he may have felt the force sometime in his youth or later. Something must have happened to him that made him lose his connection maybe his blindness maybe something worse. Either why I imagine that is why he always says "I am one with the force, the force is with me" it's something that makes the force a mystery to so many and it supports the idea of why people at this point in Star Wars don't believe the force really exists.

What makes his belief so good is that throughout the whole film it's never clear if the force was really helping them or not, no force pushes, no mind tricks, no stopping blasters or lifting something in the air. It's all just faith which is why I love the scene where he walks in front of a barrage of blasters and tries to pull a switch to help his freinds succeed even when it meant he had to die. It's blind faith at it's finest. Still I wish RO would explore more to him and all the other characters

Hi, @Funinightmare, welcome to you too! It's good to see so many newcomers joining the Cantina boards.

In case you haven't seen them, here are some threads about Chirrut/use of the Force in R1 you might be interested in:

Well thanks so much I never get many chances to talk about Star Wars or even films in general to my full honesty so it's nice to be in a group of people that share or at least listen to ideas or opinion I have.

There's definitely some interesting lore going on behind Chirrut being a Whill and all. I love that they're still staying to true to George's concepts that never got into his films and I epecially love the idea of Jedi not being the only people to have understandings of the force, they had to have got the ideas from somewhere. It's really great seeing more characters having different perspectives of the force and not always being Jedi or Sith.

You're welcome and you've come to a good place for talking SW. ;)

We have seen a fair bit of non-Jedi/Sith Force experience lately. We saw a bit in TCW (the Mortis arc, the Nightsisters) and some in Rebels (Inquisitors and the Bendu), and of course TFA (Snoke, Maz Kanata)--and there's probably more I can't think of off the top of my head. And now here we have Chirrut, doing...something related to the Force, not sure what... It should be interesting to see what new iterations we will get in Ep. VIII!

    1. Jyn, Cassian and K2SO (yes all three because they are each interrelated, none works without the other. This movie revolves around trust, so you'll probably understand why I picked all three of them)

The only character I really didn't like as much as other people was Chirrut. No character development whatsoever in my opinion. That should not be a bad thing, but it is why I though he was the least interesting character and least relevant for the general story. It is also ironic how all the people who criticise the movie for having "weak characters" also pick Chirrut as their favourite character!

    THIS.

Yep, please a young adult novel of how he got into the Rebellion at age six and please include Bail Organa and Ahsoka in the equation. PLEASEEEE!

At least just include him on a Rebels episode interacting with Hera and/or the rest of the Rebels and voiced by Diego Luna of course!!

Guess this trio is my favourite.

*goes and play "Your Father Would Be Proud" while shedding a tear*

Don't forget he looked like Pablo Hidalgo as well LOL.

Thanks, mods and everyone who has posted. Thread of the Week was fun!

According to the poll so far, it seems Chirrut is the clear R1 favorite... Plenty of time left to vote, though. ;)
