Who should play Leia in Episode 9?

I agree. It will definitely be a difficult situation for JJ. To be respectful to her as an actress and for her character, it shouldn't be recast nor CGI. However, it would need to be addressed somehow. They could avoid it all together by just having her referenced or receiving messages from her on screen but never seeing her. Not sure how I feel about that either though.

 

No one. If they do recast, it will be Tomb of the Dragon Emperor all over again.

Well, they did recast another actor for young Han Solo.

 

That is a slightly different situation. Harrison Ford certainly couldn't play a younger version of himself in it.

 

Unless they used CGI.

 

And a few doubles, don't think Ford gonna be doing a whole lot of run either!

 

You can explain Leia's absence from this film by having either the title crawl or other characters tell us that General Leia is busy travelling around the galaxy to meet with political supporters of the Resistance. The ending of TLJ certainly creates this possibility.

 

They should just CGI her if they need Leia for some scenes. Recasting her would be cheezy. Otherwise Boss Vos' idea seems pretty reasonable, but either way they're going to have to deal with the issue eventually.

 

Alden Ehrenreich playing Han is troubling a lot of people. I am ready to give an advance of trust.
But I can't imagine recasting Leia would be received well ...

 

Remember KK said this trilogy was about the next generation of SkywalkerS, notice the last s.

She lied then, she could also lie about not using a CG Leia.

 

The only thing I'd object to is a recast.

If Leia's passing is mentioned in the opening crawl, or if Leia's role is totally offscreen... that isn't ideal, but it is respectful to Carrie and Carrie's fans. No one doesn't want Leia to appear in IX, but no one wanted Carrie to pass away, either.

If they choose to have a CGI'd Leia appear in IX, that would be okay by me, too (so long as it's limited -- and preferably without dialogue). They surely have enough unused footage (especially from TFA) to facilitate a dialogue-free reunion with Ben, or some emotionally resonant moment. Perhaps even a self-sacrifice at the beginning?

In the end: a brief CGI/unused footage appearance is respectful to Leia. A complete no-show or offscreen death is respectful to Carrie. A recast is disrespectful to both.

 

Nobody. To do so would be an AWFUL idea.

 

In a few reports from various sources t'was mentioned both Billie & Carrie's brother wouldn't object 2 using CGI or archival footage of Carrie.

 

Would saying she is dead in the opening crawl too much? I think so....imagine if the first line in the crawl is "General Organa is dead."

 

Star Wars isn't about Carrie Fisher. Its about a story, not an actress. If the story needs a Leia, then employ another Leia. I have no problem with that.

Star Wars is art, that is made by people, one of whom was Carrie Fisher.

 

They don't have to write something so jarring or upsetting. It can be something or to the effect of like:

"The struggle continues. With the passing of GENERAL LEIA ORGANA, the fate of the RESISTANCE has been in doubt. Under the new leadership of POE DAMERON, the fight to stop the FIST ORDER has yadda yadda yadda..."

 

I could have totally bought Ford playing his younger self... The work they did with Kurt was outstanding!
