I agree. R2-D2, BB-8, and Chewie could continue on for many years, but C-3PO is tied to Anthony Daniels more so than the people portraying those other characters. If I had t pick one that would likely go, it would be 3PO. Also, it is that virtually indefinite lifespan that would make one of their deaths sting a little more.

Probably true and makes a lot of sense, but just like Anakin having visions of Padme dying, I keep imagining the Falcon going out in a blaze of glory.

I think R2 will end up being hidden and shut down somewhere in possibly an old Jedi Temple holding all the Jedi data, texts etc for future generations.

That would be quite a sad ending with R2 locked up in a Temple.

I don't want it to happen but if the last two film are any indication than Disney is trying tie up the past and move forward with the new. "Let the past die, kill it if you have to" Its one of the lines of the most interesting new character. They Killed off Luke so in my mind anyone else is game. What better way to kill the past to make way for the new than to allow the OG Falcon Pilot and the Furry oaf give their lives to the second most noble cause of the galaxy (The first is the old Rebellion). I'd rather they not die but if they do thats how i want it to be. Let me paint a picture

Blaster fire from the First Order swiftly soars through the black of space. They hit their mark, The Millennium Falcon. There are far too many TIE's coming from the Armada of Star Destroyers. Even Poe wouldn't be able to defeat them all. Lando and Chewie stagger around the falcon trying to keep her together. Angry growl pouring from Chewbacca's mouth.
"I know , I Know. We cant take much more fire, The Falcon was built to be a smuggling freighter not a War ship." Lando turns a wrench and the the ship seems to resume normal status. "Chewie I think I might know how to finish this. Go fly us to the epicenter of the fight." Lando and Chewie race back to the cockpit Lando grabs the comms while chewie takes the helm. "Commander Dameron do you copy?'
"Read you loud and clear General, whats the plan?"
"You gotta get your men out of here"
"Are you crazy, there's too many TIE's you need my Squad."
"commander i gave you an order please follow it"
    "But General"
    "Poe, please,"
    "Sir Yes Sir."
"Poe would you tell Finn something for me,"
    "What you got?
"Tell him I'm sorry I never came back for him."
"I'll let him know, I'll see you soon"
"Yeah Sure." Lando looks to chewie, "Alright buddy, its time for you to go, take the escape pod." Chewie growls at Lando, "you right his ship is more yours than mine but I can't ask you to do this. Han would never forgive me." A moment of silence passed while they both remembered the fallen hero. "Chewie looks into Lando's eyes with piercing resolve. Lando can see that if the Falcon is going down down then chewie wants to go with it. Chewie will gladly lay down his life to protect the Resistance. Lando smiles and starts punch in some calculations. "Are you ready for one more flight?" Chewie gives one final roar, "Han old buddy, I know I said not a scratch, but this is for a good cause," Land looks to chewie one last time and remembers when he first met the wookie all those years ago. Proud to be the friend of such a noble warrior, Lando for once in his life felt like a hero, like a good person, like a rebel. He put his hand on the drive stick and looked out the windshield to see a swarm of ties and Star Destroyers. "Punch it Chewie." The Falcon lurches into hyperspace, driving right through every single star destroyer causing a shock wave that shatters ever window on the TIES Causing the pilots to crash into one another. Far across the galaxy Leia feels the death of chewie through the force. she feels it deeply and tears stream down her face. Another friend gone because of this war. Chewie above all was a hard loss. It was always chewie that was there for for Han Leia and Ben. It was he that kept them wars and safe. because they were his family, because he loved them with all his heart. "Goodbye, My favorite walking carpet, Thank you."

It was a great picture you painted!
And now we have it as a piece of lovely non-canon fan fiction there is no need to let Chewie die in the film... ;):D(chewbacca)

I really don't know who will Or who won't make it out of this movie alive?!

But my guess is, Hux will bite it, Rose might go..

I don't think we'll lose any of the new trio, but if we do I have a feeling it'll be Finn sacrificing himself for either Rey or Rose.. Though it could just as easy be Poe who dies if one of them does...

The only thing I can say for sure... Is that if either Chewie, R2, the Falcon or Lando bites it.. Audiences in my local theater will have to deal with a very emotional, definitely crying young man.. But guess I wouldn't be the only one.

I suspect Leia will not survive.

    ***Spoilers***(red)

In TFA Han Solo was slain by Kylo, in TLJ Luke sacrificed himself, it only makes sense a veteran of the Original Trilogy will die in ROS. Lando would be an alternative choice, but Leia’s death would make more sense since her brother, and beloved both have perished.

I’m surprised “Kylo” is so high in this poll.

If by “Kylo,” you’re implying that Kylo will die but Ben Solo will live, then I too will cast my vote for Kylo. But, if it’s a general statement about Kylo/Ben dying, then I’d disagree.

Kylo/Ben is arguably the most compelling character in the sequel trilogy. Disney would be bonkers to simply kill off the character entirely.

I agree, I have only connected with Kylo on a emotional level. His struggle to achieve self respect and power, to escape the shadow of Vader and Luke is as you so eloquently said “compelling”. My heart ached when replying to Snoke’s disappointment he said “I have given everything to the Dark Side!” The tinge in his voice of exasperation is palpable.

I concur that Kylo will not likely be killed off in ROS. He has a greater chance of becoming a Jedi Prodigal or perhaps something we have not seen in canon: Grey Jedi or Jed’aii, using both the Light and Dark Side; and ending the schism and becoming the Chosen One who brings balance to the Force.

You could be right of course, but I see it differently. I think it would be great if Leia survived and the character could continue on in other content (books, animation, games etc). There would be a certain irony that I would personally enjoy, that despite the actors playing Luke and Han still being around in real life, their characters died in the movies, and the opposite for Leia/Carrie Fisher.

Another way of looking at it would be Han died and only lives on in the form of possible further material with him as a younger character (woudl love a Solo 2, but the character could appear in other films or TV series regardless), whereas Luke died but could return as a Force ghost (or even fully return corporeally a la Gandalf from LOTR, we don't truly know yet...!) so Leia living on by the end of the Skywalker saga would be the third of the three outcomes possible (died and dead, died and risen/Force ghost, alive...).

Either way, I'll be ok with as long as it's done well.

Of course it's not hard, especially in something like Star Wars, to concoct an on-screen death out of virtually nothing for any character, but one final point I'd mention is that if Carrie Fisher's performances from TFA are the basis for her role in TRoS, it would seem logical that they never shot a death scene for Leia, which might be another reason to not kill her off in TRoS. Alternatively, they could re-use the TLJ footage when many of us thought she might have died, give her a costume change and a different background/location, CGI her hair a bit... so yeah, I'm not saying it's not do-able, but unless there's a story reason to do so... it just seems unnecessary to me, just to 'complete the set' of the main three dying in the ST. But I do see your perspective on it too, and I like the 'sacrifice' element of what you say especially.

I was thinking about the ROTJ throne room scene (which I used to like before I started thinking about the logic of the scene and how the whole situation seems forced) yesterday, and I remembered that Lucas said that Luke wasn't trying to follow the Jedi or what the emperor wants him to do (kill Vader, even though I would think it would have been most logical to kill the emperor and think about Vader later), but Luke instead spares his dad. Isn't that sort of killing the past by ignoring what both sides want (even though Luke declared that he was a Jedi)? Luke doesn't apply his knowledge or skill from Yoda and Obi-wan by doing this; he simply decides to do it on his own.

Unlike TLJ's message of passing on what you've learned (which I think only really comes at the end of the film) and Rey's act of keeping the texts safe, trying to save Vader is exactly the opposite of what Obi-wan and Yoda want and kills their past/legacy/wishes, since they believe that Vader can't be saved. And the emperor just wants Vader gone.

Hux is expendable, he’s toast. Maybe Rose infuriating Finn to fight. The scene in the trailer of Lando and Chewie will be the last shot into the credits as they ride off into the sunset. Obviously Leia.

Thats a misdirect. They are making him evil 3PO to infiltrate the empire. He’s just afraid he’s going to die doing whatever he’s being asked to do. 3PO is all drama, R2 is all business. (r2-d2)

In a way the Skywalkers and Ben Solo are adherents to Darth Ruin’s Credo:

“There is no passion…there is solely obsession.
There is no knowledge. There is solely conviction.
There is no purpose. There is solely will.
    There is nothing…
    Only me.” [Darth Ruin’s Creed]

The Skywalkers are obessive, Anakin so obessed over keeping Padme alive he went to the Dark Side. Luke was so convicted that there was good in Vader he risked dying at the hands of Darth Sidious. And Ben Solo follows the last tenets, “There is no purpose. there is solely will. There is nothing,”; “It’s time to let it all die.. the Sith, the Jedi.” (Ben Solo, TLJ).
