SPECULATION Who will OWN the R2-D2 and C3-PO?

R2 will end up with redeemed Ben Solo. C3PO with Rey.

That way they both stay with the Skywalker family.

 

threepio may go with Finn and Rose if there going on a journey again. Although it sounds like Rey and Finn maybe sharing more screen time in this film.

 

Rey seems to have inherited something from every one of the characters. She got Han’s ship and Luke’s lightsaber, so perhaps she’ll get Leia’s droids? Leia sees Poe as a surrogate son, and if he takes on a leadership role, perhaps he will inherit them (or at least C-3PO), but I do feel like Leia and Rey’s relationship is EXTREMELY important, and if Rey’s inheritance of the original characters’ iconic possessions is supposed to be a tradition over the course of this trilogy, the droids are really the only thing of significance to Leia that could top Luke’s lightsaber and the Falcon.

That being said, I feel like C-3PO and R2-D2 are not at the forefront of the Sequel Trilogy thanks to BB-8. (I love the Sequel Trilogy, but this is really one of my only complaints with it. The significance of BB-8 should not make C-3PO and R2-D2 feel less important when they were important in the first six films.) They haven’t gotten nearly enough screentime, and I’d love to see them interact more with BB-8 and the other characters and feel more significant to the story.

I really don’t know what to expect because I don’t know that this is something actually being considered by JJ. The most logical thing, to me, would be for the droids to end up in the possession of Rey based on how the story is going so far, but we’ll have to see! At this point, it’s anyone’s guess.

(It’s also possible that C-3PO and R2-D2 are both destroyed in this film, which I hope isn’t the case. But Episode IX would be the most ideal place to get rid of the characters if Lucasfilm wants to retire them, because as of right now, they’ve appeared in every Star Wars film, and if they want to break that tradition in future film, this would be their best opportunity. However, I really hope they don’t go that route because no one wants to see that happen, especially after watching Luke and Han die and presumably having to deal with Leia’s death in Episode IX.)

 

Given it was all supposed to be about the Adventures or R2D2 and 3PO, I think they will steal the Falcon and begin these adventures!!!!

Honestly though, I'll with 3PO with Poe and R2 with Rey.... or since they both on the Falcon, I could see both going with Rey and Chewie.

 

i wouldn't necessrily discount Poe. if Poe becomes the leader of the Rebellion, he might want/need them.
could also see them going to redeemed Ben Solo, but seems like he would have less use for them.

 

I think C3-PO should stay as an adviser for Poe. What about R2? I think he should be destroyed. There I said it. His "death" would certainly be very sad.

 

R2 ending up with Kylo somehow would be fascinating. (Maybe Leia on her death bed sends R2 to Kylo?) That's a stretch for sure, but I think it could provide some more character growth from Kylo maybe humanizing him even more making a redemption arc more palatable (If that is indeed what they intend for Kylo)

 

I think it's safe to say R2 will go to Rey (Rey is us, and who wouldn't like to have R2? like really... )

3P0 is a different story. I think we mostly like him, but no where near as much as R2. Poe has BB8, so he's basically an upgraded version of R2, so I can't see him getting R2 as well, but 3P0 could go anywhere, to emancipated, to having Poe or Rey own him. Although more likely Poe since Rey can speak a lot of languages already, she doesn't really have as great a need for him.
