Who would you cast as a young Han Solo?

There has been a recent rumor that the 2nd anthology film would expound on the rivalry of Boba Fett and Han Solo (and would presumably take place between III and IV).

This rumor has me thinking about the tremendous casting challenge that the filmmakers would be faced with. Han Solo is arguably one of the most iconic cinematic characters of all time. Harrison Ford's portrayal of him is untouchable. It's near impossible to picture any other actor as Han Solo. I imagine that recasting this character would prove to be extremely difficult. If you cast the wrong actor as a young Han Solo, the whole movie would fall apart.

Whether this rumor proves true remains to be seen. But if it were, who would you want be cast as a young Han Solo?

i've been thinking a lot about this, actually. not very many actors come to mind, but i really like the Anthony Ingruber suggestion! AND, he's already played a young Harrison Ford in that other movie!

I think its a hard call. It needs to be somebody well under 30. Ingruber looks the part but doing impersonations does not always translate to acting. Look at 2009 Star Trek they do a great job of impersonating Kirk, Bones and Spock but while I loved the fact that they really caught the mannerisms and attitude of the OS characters many die hard Trek fans complained about it. There are a few folks that spring to mind who could do a good job at bring back ANH Solo but they are all too old.

Anthony Ingruber does bear a resemblance to Harrison Ford, but I haven't seen any of his films so I can't comment on his acting chops. He does look like the part though.

I've heard people suggest Taron Egerton from Kingsmen (which I still haven't seen). He does seem like he'd be able to pull off that scoundrel swagger that we see from Han in ANH.

Here's one casting idea that's sure to get a reaction: Zac Efron.

I remember hearing rumors that he had auditioned for TFA and I wondered at the time if he had possibly auditioned for the role of a young Han Solo in a potential spin-off film (that would've been too early to audition for an Anthology film though). I know a lot of people may only know him from High School Musical, but he's actually a pretty good actor. He can do drama (Charlie St. Cloud) and comedy (Neighbors). That being said, I think he's too well known and people's perception of him is still skewed by his Disney Channel past. It would definitely end up being a controversial choice, that's for sure. I think that most Star Wars fans would boycott the film if he were in it.

I think it's better if they cast someone who isn't well known. Someone who doesn't already have associations from past films (like Zac Efron does).

If he can pull the accent, definitely Taron Egerton - in Kingsman he pulled the street persona, posh, fights and he was very charming which Solo must be. He is broader compared to Han Solo's more wiry built, but that can be fixed.

While he looks a lot like Ford, I don't know Anthony Ingruber's acting abilities. I feel that personality is more important that the looks anyway.

the ability to impersonate someone good is not an easy task & that ability IMO IS acting, so it doesn't matter if Anthony Ingruber is good or bad at acting in other movies (i personally think he's a good actor) The look of Han Solo is as important as his maneuers & they should never consider anyone else than him to pull of a young Han Solo. I think the key to that character is the weird & somewhat mad smiles & lopsided grin & he can definitly pull that of & look so much like a young Harrison that it's almost spooky

It's very spooky how close he looks to a young Harrison, even sounds like him. Think he's a decent actor.

Dan Stevens from The Guest. Somebody mentioned this today over at Birth Movies Death and it's the only name I've been able to seriously imagine in this role. I'm one of those droids who thinks Bradley Cooper would actually make a great Indiana Jones (not into the Chris Pratt idea, he has way less range) but Solo is harder to cast. I think Stevens could pull off the charm and underlying menace of a genuine rogue.

I don't really have any suggestions aside from the Anthony Ingruber, but since this thread isn't filled with a bunch of party poopers I just wanted to say that I'm totally pumped about this film. Good directors, quality script, and a great opportunity to go 1313 with Star Wars. (falcon)

I hate this idea. This deal with Darth Disney is getting worse all the time.

Harrison Ford is Han Solo. Lucas cast the character(s) according to type– Harrison Ford isn’t playing Han Solo; Han Solo IS Harrison Ford.

    This sucks.

Anthony Ingruber does have an uncanny resemblance to Harrison Ford.

Here's Ingruber doing a Han Solo impression. I think he does a pretty decent impression. But keep in mind this video is from 2008 (about 7 years ago). I'm sure his acting has improved since:

Anthony Ingruber, IF he can act. If he can't, then I agree that Dan Stevens should do it. Taron Egerton looks nothing like Harrison Ford but, again, it really depends on his acting ability and I prefer Stevens.

Thanks for your contribution, it's not as if there's already a thread dedicated to people's thoughts on the Han Solo film where you could share your opinion rather then one which is specifically meant to discuss who should play young Han.

Edit: Oh never mind, you're just spamming the exact same post you already made in the Han Solo thread. Troll.

Why is it trolling and spamming when the same topic comes up twice and my opinion on it remains the same? I opened the thread to see if there was anything new in either, and left my opinion. Simple as that.

Given how the casting has gone thus far, it will be a very talented actor that no one will predict. I kind of hope they go pretty young and expect the actor to be in multiple anthology films going forward.

My hope is they PULL THE PLUG on this AWFUL idea before its too late!
I've been very positive about everything regarding Force Awakens and Rogue One ... but this is a huge misstep!

If the Prequels taught us one thing, its that when it comes to beloved characters, less can be more: Seeing Vader and Boba as little kids only took away from their mystique. I realise this won't be Han as a kid but the idea of anyone other than Ford as Han is so jarring!
Frankly, its also desperately unoriginal to do an OT character backstory when you have a whole galaxy to explore.

Catching the mannerisms and voice of a person or character might make for a funny bit but there is a lot more to a compelling portrayal. Especially considering that in addition to nailing the impersonation the actor will also have to be believable (most impersonations create caricatures), human and still have the charisma necessary to carry a film.
