I like John Williams and his work, but the TFA soundtrack is not his best work.
Rey's theme is decent. ("man with no name" homage)
Best track was "The Jedi Steps and Finale" in my opinion.

"Victory Celebration" is probably the musical low-point of the Saga for me (at least score-wise). Far too polite and generic to be a fitting end to the 6 films. I'm honestly surprised that Williams wrote it. I'll take "Yub Nub" over it any day.

He could have been a tad original .

Lol well blame him for doing it as a favor for the special edition, I believe, but it worked back then...it doesn't work in the context of TFA anymore, however...as much as I don't like the flute themes, he made them sound more majestic with their utilization .

If the question is about the new trilogy - favourite themes are Kylo Ren's and Rey's.
Torn Apart is my favourite track from the new score. I wonder if there is a Ben Solo theme interwoven there? It seems like it.

Otherwise - absolute all time favourite is the Force theme, of course.

Rey theme, easily. It's just fantastic, already up their with my favorite SW themes ever. And I think that it will evolve as her character does.

I also really loved the "Jedi Steps" at the end, so epic and emotional.

"March of The Resistance" was also quite good (sort of like a reverse/heroic version of The Imperial March), and also Kylo's theme.

Theme there were musical numbers that were REALLY well-placed within the film itself (the one playing when SKB fires for the first time, destroys the Hosnian System, the one when Finn sees Rey being kidnapped and flips out, the numbers playing during the more "intimate" Finn/Rey scenes, etc).

Really this score gets better and better overall the more that I listen to it. It's really good, and sadly underappreciated imo.

Why Rey theme is the winner???Easy....That theme has William magic touch in it.The melody is so smooth and has the flow that takes you deeply inside the movie. Is the BEST piece in the movie soundtrack for me...:).

Behind the scenes of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens soundtrack, as composer John Williams discusses his approach to crafting music for the film, including new and classic characters…
Very interesting to hear Williams talk about Rey and Kylo's themes...

The Sound of a Galaxy: Inside the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Soundtrack

I do hope he will be the composer for the remaining 2 films of the trilogy as well...

Not sure if I have a favorite theme, but I know this much, whatever the name of the music that accompanies the official trailer, is my favorite. From the simple piano notes at the beginning to the dramatic rise, the body of the music and the crescendo at the end... it is some of the most powerful cinematic music I have ever heard. Even when separated from the visual of the trailer it will likely give you goose bumps and it could explain why the trailer made so many people emotional... the music was expertly crafted.

John Wiliams' entire TFA soundtrack is masterful, but the Force Theme gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it... It's the only one that really get's to me! =')

@MandoChip I guess we're both late to this party... ;):p
