    Haha, I think we try to follow the Obi-Wan interpretation of things, unfortunately, since that what Lucas had to un-twist back in the OT.

    Also worth noting - the relationship between Vader and the Emperor is one of rivals and not just master-apprentice. The Vader comic is instructive in how deceptive the two were to one another, and how Palpatine willingly accepts Vader's machinations and even celebrates them. So the perceived deception in the conversation that is the subject of this thread fits how they both keep things close to the chest, measuring how much the other knows about the young rebel, and what each other's plans are. Palpatine's reactions to Vader's actions behind-his-back play into the notion that they both are playing games in the conversation just as Vader was playing games behind Palpatine's back - and how Palpatine was ok with that because Sith will be Sith.
