Watched ROTS yesterday with my daughters and wondered why Yoda choose Dagobah for his exile location. Thought I'd get the community's take on it. What do you think?

Is just a swamp planet. No big civilizations, no cities, no evolved beings. No one will look for him there.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - S06E11 "Voices"

YODA: Strong this planet is with the Force.
QUI-GON: It is one of the purest places in the galaxy.

Dagobah is teaming with the Force. It's the perfect place to disappear while still staying 'connected'.

Mix of both of the first two options make it a great place for a force user of his magnitude to hide combined with seemingly no intelligent/technological beings to be evaded or dealt with to pass word of him or for him to affect.

    Yeah, this is probably it.

And while it might seem a bit like a retcon, I think the cave scene in TESB already kind of implied it.

Not to be pompous, but that's kind of the wrong way to look at it, considering we're talking about Star Wars.

The right way of asking the question is, "Why did Lucas choose to put Yoda in a world overrun by nature?"

Because the answer is the Nature vs Technology theme that permeates through Star Wars, and challenges us to consider our place in the world and the balance of our employment of technology and the "pavement world", and the preservation of nature and the "communion wisdom" that comes with it.

It's a direct derivative of Lucas' impact upon his psyche from Arthuer Lipsett's film 21-87, which has this scene in it (up until the conversation of 21-87 starts).

It's not really about why Yoda chose to be there.
It's about what Yoda being in Degobah represents.

So if my daughters were to ask that, I would ask them, "Well, what does Yoda being in Degobah make you think? What does it mean to you? What does Yoda mean to you? What does an abundance of nature mean to you? Does Yoda in Degobah solve any of problems using technology? Does anything filled with technology seem to have a hard time in this world filled with nature?"

    Cheers,
    Jayson

That’s right, @Obi5Kenobi, there’s a ‘right way’ and a ‘wrong way’ to watch Star Wars. And your way is unequivocally wrong. I’m outrageously ill with pity over the assuredly massive degree of embarrassment you must be reeling from right now. Since this is your first offense though, I believe you can be pardoned provided you profusely apologize in the most extremely prostrate fashion allowable to anatomical constraints. Star Wars, and all its assorted fandom, weeps for you this day.
Also, apparently, your particular style of parenting is wrong. No need to apologize to us for that. However you may wish to seriously consider asking your children for their combined forgiveness.
    Too late :D

My reply, which includes the words "right" and "wrong" is subjective, so those terms are not absolute.
They are my opinion; ergo the "not to be pompous", disclaimer.

Everyone is free to do whatever they want, but I do think it's worth taking into account the intention of what Star Wars is to Lucas: a fairy tail for allegorical lessons, which means it operates on symbolism for self reflection.
It's not just a story where the characters are doing things for realistic reasons unto themselves.

But again, that's just my opinion.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

I have the answer to this question, not a theory.

Yoda chose Dagobah to hide in exile because Dagobah has a very high concentration of lifeforms on it, many of which are strongly linked to the Dark Side and cause Dark Side phenomena to occur (such as the cave). As Yoda is strong with the Light Side, he wished to dilute/mask his Force signature from the Empire and Sith by being there on Dagobah.

I agree that it is because Dagobah is teeming with life, and, more specifically, teeming with forms of life that can’t talk or communicate.

First of all Dagobah was a remote place and was not really well known by people. Secondly this planet is strong with the dark side. This dark side aura masks his own one.

If you watched the clone wars, you will remember that Qui-Gon's force ghost told him to go to Dagobah, where he learned how to become a force ghost. It was also revealed to Yoda what will happen in weeks coming.
