Why didn't Luke turn all white and old and nasty after getting zapped by Sheev?

But if this were the case, wouldn't Mace Windu have been deformed and gotten all white, old and nasty?

I think the canon explanation is that the operating under the Dark Side causes physical decay or whatever. You can see this with Anakin's eyes changing color. Supposedly, his "youthful" appearance was a disguise while the fugly-wrinkly-shrinky-dink Palpatine that we all know and love to hate is what he truly looks like.

Because when they made ROTJ Lucas hadn't envisioned a time when they would make the prequels and have a scene where Darth Sidious harms himself with force lightning, disfiguring himself in the process.

Good point but of course that scene was only written years and years after ROTJ. I doubt when Lucas wrote that scene with Luke that he was thinking he won't get disfigured with this force lightning like Darth Sidious does when I eventually make the prequels. That is something I want to use to visually explain how the emperor reveals what he truly looks like. He wrote in response to the fact Luke didn't get disfigured in ROTJ by making mace windu unaffected by it in the same way while at the same time explaining how the emperor looked the way he does. So what I said in my first entry is true.

Darth Vader didn't get disfigured beyond the facial damage that occurred years before the events of the movie (based on what we see of the back of his head in The Empire Strikes Back).

Sheev is the only one disfigured, and it's because he had something to hide by use of the Force. Alternately, you could see it as Mace Windu deflecting lightning in his face as being more damaging than lightning by itself if you don't believe in the "beauty is skin deep" metaphor.

Also it still doesn't negate what I said in my first entry

Darth Vader is wearing a mask which may have protected his face from the brunt of the force lightning.

What I basically said from the start is that in ROTJ, luke and Vader for that matter wasn't effected in the same way Sidious was in ROTS as it was an afterthought in the writing.

He didn't get disfigured because he blocked the lightning and reflected it back onto Palpy using his blade.

Power corrupts. Sheeves was achieving his dream of unlimited power and this was shown on his face. Also you did not see Mace get aged cause he was tossed through the window to.

Sheev isn't palpating... which sounds painful.

But yes, Sheev is Palpatine's canonical first name (derived from Steve Shiva). It makes me wonder if there will be another character with the surname of Palpatine at some point.

I read that "Sheev" was going to be revealed in the live-action tv series that was planned at one point. In the Plagueis novel, Palpatine's father's first name is "Cosinga", which I like because it includes "Cos" from "The Star Wars". It would be interesting if we're introduced to another member of Palpatine's family. I wonder what his/her role would be.

Cosinga's not canon anymore because the Darth Plagueis novel isn't canon anymore.

(Cos Dashit was a great name, by the way - "cause the blast".)
