SPECULATION Why doesn't Owen recognize C-3PO on Tatooine?

Why doesn't Uncle Owen recognize C-3PO?

  1. He's faking it as to not tip off 3PO on his past.

If it was face blindness then it would be just that because the protocol droids all sound similar as can be heard in TPM...

True, TC's voice is similar. Same kind of accent and tone.
You know what, I think that is the key to all of this:
Not remembering appearance: standard model, different covering. EXPLAINED
Not remembering voice: standard accent and tone, 22 years had passed. EXPLAINED
Not remembering number: I don't remember my locker number or combination from sixth grade and that was 11 years ago. This is 22 years later. EXPAINED

It's actually not as bad as we thought.

What's TC? Yeah, Threepio wasn't exactly Owen's BFF in AOTC so it would make sense. .

I've never liked the idea that Anakin built C-3PO as well; to me that was poor writing.

You nailed it right there! I would even take it one step further, leave him out completely until IV; create a little mystery with our favorite protocol droid.

My theory about Leia remembering Padme is that baby Luke is focusing on Yoda's Force Signal, while baby Leia is focusing on Padme's face. This explains why there's something familiar about Dagobah, as well as why only Leia remembers Padme. I'm admitting upfront that this is pure speculation. My point is just that it is possible to explain this without it being a plothole.

I don't see the two statements about Obi-Wan as mutually exclusive - maybe he promised his dying master that he would take it upon himself to train Anakin. After all, it was still Obi-Wan who fought to train Anakin with or without the council's approval. Again, I'm not saying this is certainly true, but I'm saying I believe it is possible to explain the discrepancy.

As for 1,000 years versus 1,000 generations... well okay, I can't explain that one. :)

The only explanation I like for Leia remembering Padmé is in the canon book Return of the Jedi: Beware the Power of the Dark Side! In it, Leia wonders if she just thinks she remembers her mother when she's telling Luke about her.
And it is a plot hole. The original idea (according to a transcript of a pre-production meeting for Jedi) was that Padmé would have died when Leia was about 2.

On the Dagobah element, I think it might actually be something else, especially since Yoda hadn't been to Dagobah yet. In The Force Awakens, when Kylo is trying to get the map out of Rey's head, he mentions how she used to imagine a ocean as she would try to sleep, an ocean with an island.
    Hmm...that sounds familiar...

It's possible that Dagobah felt like something out of a dream is that Luke did dream about it, or more accurately, had a Force vision of it, just like Rey did of Ahch-To.

Just because they changed their mind about something doesn't automatically make it a plothole.

Judging from your statement "especially since Yoda hadn't been to Dagobah yet," I'm not sure if you understand the theory I suggested. In my theory, Luke senses Yoda's Force signal at birth. Then he senses Yoda again as he approaches Dagobah. The fact that Yoda hasn't been to Dagobah at the time of Luke's birth has nothing to do with it. Yoda could have never gone to Dagobah, and taken refuge on any other planet, and the theory would work exactly the same (although some planets would not have made good hiding places). I'm not claiming this is proven or canon, but it is actually a popular theory.

Changing your mind without adjusting the story does create plotholes. And when fans have to use the Force to patch something like this up, there's a problem.

But then it would confuse the people who watch ROTS before ANH and The rest of The OT in that Artoo is there but C-3PO is not .

How would that confuse them? They just wouldn't know he exists, we have the R2 and 3PO meeting for the first time at the end of Revenge of the Sith, and then we get to A New Hope.

Still, my point mostly stands: people watching the PT first won't know he exists and then will be introduced to him in A New Hope.
Also, he's not needed at all in the PT. I mean, what did he do?:
    The Phantom Menace: Exist.
Attack of the Clones: Part of the worst comic relief moments in the ENTIRE KRIFFING SAGA! Yeah, I hate that more than Jar Jar kriffing Binks!
Revenge of the Sith: Exist. Then Lucas realized that 3PO likely wouldn't be able to keep his mouth shut about Vader and Padmé, etc., so he erased his memories.
3PO's sole purpose was fan service.

bUT really though about Owen...he could have also recognized them but chosen NOT to recognize them and pretend he had no idea who they were for his nephew's protection as I'm sure that Obi-Wan had told him things about them over the years.

I've always had the feeling that Owen didn't want Luke to run off and either become the next Vader ("There's too much of his father in him." "That's what I'm afraid of.") or that he would get killed fighting "some damn fool idealistic crusade". And that he likely didn't talk to Obi-Wan much at all for similar reasons.
And I doubt he did recognize 3PO and just pretended not to. Mostly since he didn't have any sort of recognition. No slight flinch or other visual, instant, and subconscious sign of recognition or surprise.
And him not recognizing R2 makes perfect sense since he only saw the astromech for a brief period of time 22 years prior and astromechs often sound the same (BB-8 being a rare exception).

Your point completely stands; you don't miss what you never had. Assuming you are watching all of them in order and had never seen any of them you wouldn't think twice about him, he would just be a new character introduced to the story (whenever you see him first), whether that's at the end of ROTJ or ANH. I think I see a dead horse laying in front of me. (Disclaimer***No horses were actually harmed in the writing of this post***).
Your right C-3PO was fan service, and so was R2-D2 as well, which I didn't care for. I'm a OT fan through and through but I wanted to see new characters in this new (OLDER) galaxy...not the same old droids (which I love in the OT).
AstromechRecords is right about the toys, but that's a given; everything is about what they can make money off of, that's what this franchise is built on. That's what comes after the dot dot dot: A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...where we made billions just off our merchandise!

They also needed better comic relief after TPM so Threepio probably seemed to fit the bill which is why he was truly introduced in AOTC with a sassy personality.

I completely agree that was there thinking, but it didn't work in my opinion; it seemed really forced.
