SPECULATION Why doesn't Owen recognize C-3PO on Tatooine?

Why doesn't Uncle Owen recognize C-3PO?

  1. He's faking it as to not tip off 3PO on his past.

Another thing from the OT that I have not checked is when old Ben Kenobi says that he has not been called Obi-Wan for a long time, before Luke was born. I have been tempted to see again the ending of ROTS to see if either Yoda or Senator Organa called him Master Kenobi or Obi-Wan just to confirm that lol.

If my memory serves me correctly...I believe he is call Obi-Wan at least once after the birth of Luke and Leia (on screen). On screen, off screen I find it hard to believe that not one person would have address him by that name at least once before he set off for Tatooine. I mean we really don't know the time frame here and who all he may have had contact with. That being said, I also don't believe the statement he made to Luke was purposely misleading, I mean it has been 17 years or so (whatever age Luke is at this time), he was just being general about the time. I think he was being honest with him (from a certain point of view;)), plus it sounds cool!

Agree. I guess it's just nitpicking from my side. Anyway, the point is that he basically stopped being Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, the respected General from The Clone Wars and member of the Jedi Council to become a hermit living secluded in Tatooine to avoid being extermined by the Empire.

You got it, I couldn't have said it better myself!:)
About nitpicking, I don't think so, you are just being a true Star Wars fan; that's what Star Wars do! I would give you a Like if I could...nice post!

Yup, pretty much. The OT and the PT is filled with contradictions. Aside from the above mentioned, when did Obi-wan serve Bail Organa in the PT for example? It never happened on screen and wasnt even mentioned, although it was a pretty important dialogue in ANH. It wasnt even hinted in CW either...

    I know!!

The way I sort of understand this is that the Jedi knights and masters were at the service of the Republic and that Senator Organa, as being part of the Senate, could be seen as part of the leaders of the Republic. Or maybe Princess Leia just tried to be succinct in her recorded hologram and tried to resume the following:

"General Kenobi, years ago you and the rest of the Jedi served the Republic - and the Senate that my father was part of - in the Clone Wars."

The prequels could've skipped the droids altogether. They both seemed pointlessly shoved into the story for no other reason than the fact that we already know them as classic characters.

I agree. C3PO and R2 should not have been in the PT at all. Aside from some fan service they didnt really add anything plus to the story except contradictions.
They should've only had a cameo or something. And Anakin building C3PO? Naaah. Never liked the idea.

R2 doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as 3PO. Why? He actually does stuff. He fixed the shield generator, he saved Padmé from the molten metal on Geonosis, and he helped out during the rescue of Palpatine. Yeah, that's not much, but it's a million times better than what happened with 3PO.
I would rather watch all of Jar Jar's scenes in The Phantom Menace than the whole head swap routine in Attack of the Clones. That. Sucked. Royal. Hippogriff.
While I did cite a bunch of errors and stuff like that, this doesn't bother me (I'm pretty sure they don't anyway, if my memory serves correct). It's more or less true (only being off by a few hours isn't bad) and is more of a simple slip of a tongue than the lie fest that is the rest of Obi-Wan's OT dialogue thanks to the PT.

It was the original vision that it was the droids that saw the events of the story. Like it was sometime in the future. Even though C3PO was mindwiped, it still works. It's lame that baby Ani put him together, probably from other parts of other droids, but it was an excuse to put him there. It doesn't bother me so much as a lot of other things.

That entire sequence was even a very last second addition to the movie .

    Aww thanks!! :D

On another thread, we might have discovered the true reason why it makes sort of sense that Anakin had built Threepio. (pod)(c-3po)
The Force was so strong with him that he foresaw in a way that he would have a daughter and wanted to create a protocol droid who would be ruining or hindering the efforts of certain dashing Corellian smuggler towards his daughter (leia)(han)(c-3po) lol:

Kinda like how Yoda doesnt acknowledge Artooie. Its just how the movies was presented at the time.

I've seen on-set clips of filming for the factory sequence. The standout was Natalie Portman laughing at the ridiculousness of it all and telling George that it would never work, and then George insists that audiences would love it. Kinda sums it up. :D

I agree it does, but her poor acting didn't help either.

That's what happens when you don't have anyone to balance your decisions, George.

Yeah, because we do know she is a terrible actress...

I didn't say anything about her being a terrible actress; her Oscar for Black Swan was well deserved; she's a wonderful actress...she just didn't have her heart into it in the SW films and it showed on screen.

You are correct: my point goes more towards the issues with directing plus maybe her attitude as well towards the role. I am not 100% sure but did they - Hayden and Natalie - get themselves apart of the saga due to the backlash after the prequels or was it something you guys could see at the time the movies were released? I am asking since I was not into SW myself at that time LOL. But talking nowadays I guess Ewan is the only one from the PT who is quite accessible and willing to be still part of the SW vibe.
