Why I hated the EU

That is why in some way I can understand they had made the EU wipe. Just imagine they will do the sequels and JJ is involved and all, and they are told: "Mmm guess what? You cannot use Chewie anymore. He already died in the Expanded Universe."

 

Stuff like that is why anyone should've seen the writing on the wall with the EU, regardless of their feelings on it. I can just imagine watching a scene in the movie where they are discussing Chewie's death and there is a little asterisk in the corner of the screen that says Read Vector Prime for Details. Then there would have to be exposition about the galaxy ravaging Yuuzhan Vong War, Han and Leia's children, two of which are already dead, Luke's wife, also already dead, and the list goes on...

I actually greatly enjoyed my time with the EU, but I understand 100% why it had to go.

 

I have never hated the EU, but you make the exact point on why they had to clean the slate. In fact I am re-reading A New Dawn and at the beginning of the book Obi-Wan says something along the lines of there are true stories and then they're stories that are legends but still have truth in them.

 

Thrawn proves that the EU isn't dead and gone, its just been put into carbon freeze....

They will selectively thaw whatever suits their storytelling needs.

Whenever they want to.

 

I'm 100% okay with this as long as the stories they take are decent and consistent with canon. From what I've seen so far; the Lucasfilm Story Group seem to be a doing a great job with this.

i'm all for drawing out cool stuff ~ even re-purposing things completely, if necessary, to make it work best for the current canon.
