CONTEST Why I think Luke leaves the island.

I'd say, it's possible if the rumor is true. If Luke does dispatch KoR then that leaves Kylo alone and probably calls in reinforcements and escapes himself. Maybe the scene where the Falcon is taking out Tie fighters in the teaser is the part they escape.

 

You're probably right. I'm also thinking that Kylo Ren and his soldiers will attack the island at the end of the first act (or at the beginning of second act). Kylo defeats Rey, Luke defeats Kylo and then Kylo escapes from the island to recover. Now Luke and Rey have to leave Ahch-To and join the Resistance.

 

We still don't know if Luke and Leia will reunite in the movie. It isn't confirmed yet.

 

First, I think the reunion between Luke, R2D2 and Chewbacca happen earlier on in the film. At some point, Rey will mention that Chewbacca and R2 are there. How can he not see them? I can't see them going through two acts and then meeting "in a hurry", especially after the heat Abrams took when Chewy was not acknowledged by Leia when they returned from SKB. This will definitely be an emotional scene because, in a way, it's confirmation to Luke that Han is gone, not to mention seeing the Falcon, Chewy and R2D2 will have such an emotional impact. At least that's what I think.

In terms of Luke leaving Ach-to, yes, I think there's a big possibility, considering that Oscar Issac mentioned being on set and watching Luke (and who knows who else e.g. leia) perform. The way he discussed it, they were filming together, so where Poe is, Leia may not be far behind.

 

The galaxy needs him now, he can't run away from it forever.

 

He leaves because the galaxy needs him... and us nerds will freak out if all he does is sit around in a tree all the time!

I must add... we "know" about too many action sequences. It's hard to imagine a plot with Rey and Luke leaving the island later on that makes sense or that is not going to be boring for a lot of time and then redundant near the finale.
If Luke and Rey (or just Rey) leave in act 3, then you have to have 2 duels Luke+Rey vs Kylo (+ possibly Snoke) and at least another space battle in the last 45'. Makes not sense, to me.

R2 and Chewie are on Ach-to at the end of TFA. I think they'll have their reunion in the first 20 minutes of TLJ. I mean, they're just hanging out at the bottom of those steps. Would Luke send them away without seeing them?

 

Luke doesn't seem too keen on getting back to work, but he sure will if Kylo Ren makes off with Rey again (ha ha!). Why do you think the knights are with him? To distract Luke, of course. Kylo Ren can't defeat Luke in battle, and Rey can't defeat a healthy Kylo Ren in battle, so what else can happen while Luke is dealing with the knights?

(I believe that only about 10% of what is mentioned in a spoiler is actually true, so the only thing we know for sure about that scene is that Luke, Rey, Ren and the knights will be on the island at the same time. And there will be some battles. That's it. So anything goes.)

 

Its an old rumor that Kylo and the knights Ren bust the party. But the "Jedi Killers" and Kylo make for a good perilous sequence and keeps Snoke out of the fray early.

 

Yeah. I think Luke was planning to leave, once he was found. The only way to find Luke was, if R2 woke up. I think Luke saw (through the Force.) Rey, and saw it was time to reveal himself. If you dont want to be found at all, you don't make a map of where you are. Once you are found (by the right people first.), you leave, so the wrong people don't follow.
There's a lot of talk about Luke being angry at Rey for finding him, but I don't think so. He led her to him, through R2.

 

Cause his twin sister needs him. Can't wait for that reunion.
