Why isn't there an official 'The Force Awakens' video game of the film? Yes, I'm very aware Jakku is in Battlefront, but is that it? Really? C'mon.

I agree with you. Maybe we will see the TFA Lego videogame in the near future.

But we also have Disney Infinnity TFA edition, right?

There is that Disney Infinity one, but it bares little resemblance to the film version of TFA, Its.... awful.

note: im not talking about lucas arts. they did great games

movie directors, movie studios, film companies should stay away from making video games. it never works unless you have smart people on the projects and it does not matter if you have the biggest company working on it or the biggest marketing team. anyone here still playing avatar the game ? or street fighter : the movie : the game (not a joke) ? 99.9999999 % of the time movie video games are more about the story than the game and they have to license an engine (obviousely) so in the end the game's release is about marketing only wich is sad because it means the company does not care if the game is really good or not, its about selling it. i could sell you a million dollar idea for a star wars right here : sell a ragdoll physics lightsaber fighting game in the same style as bushido blade with one hit kill and dismemberment hits etc.
it would be a total success but its never going to happen even because corporation Dictate the narrative that video gaming is an industry exactly like the movie industry. stories in great GAMES are as important as stories in pron films.

Well Star Wars Battlefront was anounced at the E3 and there it was suggested that it would include Force Awakens content. This was also suggested when they promoted the season pass. It is only in the last three weeks or so that it became clear that the battle of Jakku dlc pack was the only actual Force Awakens content they would release and that they would keep focusing on the Civil War era instead. Dice is very busy with a number of big titles so this is understandable. What I do not like is that their marketing stressed that we would get The Force Awakens in Battlefront. Even the game's mechanics and look is influenced by The Force Awakens (especially the atmospheric fighter combat).

It is the right decision, Star Wars had many awful license products, better put some years and work in it and release something worthy. A good game takes years to make.

Sorry, but I don't want to play a game where all I do is scream and run.

I share your desire to experience a 'TFA' Star Wars game. I don't necessarily want a game adaptation of the movie, but rather a side story of some kind.

Supposedly there's a developer working on one, but of course it's shrouded in complete secrecy.

Because it would further highlight how thin the plot is.

Because Disney want to sell Disney Infinity.

I'm just hoping we'll get another Lego Star Wars when Episode IX comes out.
The Lego Star Wars games are still the best movie tie-in games since Super Star Wars.

Right now though, I just want to see some original stories in some KotOR, Jedi Knight, Shadows of the Empire style, single-player games.
The Battlefront Honest trailer explains things perfectly:

"Prepare yourself to be disappointed with the lack of single player, as Battlefront gives you just enough gameplay to imagine how amazing a next-gen Star Wars campaign would be..."

And I really, need a new flight sim, a la X-Wing VS TIE Fighter or Rogue Squadron.

Even though it's more complex than both ANH and ROTJ?

The Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith both had pretty good video games. It's probably because, those two games are different from the films and Disney wants everything canon. Then again it's not like they couldn't make the games non-canon like Infinity.

Episode 1 game was kind of bad...
All that extra nonsense on Tatooine and Coruscant made it go on far longer than it needed to.
Never played Revenge of the Sith, because it was only on consoles.

Well, I never got that far on The Phantom Menace to be honest. Haha

Revenge of the Sith is good. Especially if you enjoy lightsaber fighting.

Well the plot recycled 60% of its content from those two films so i'd hope so.

    Protagonist and antagonist are related

droid containing message integral to the plot

a previously established main character dies

the villain's morality is constantly questioned

super weapon explodes at the end

    orange yoda

    orange tarkin

Again, its a very good movie.. beautifully directed but the plot simply re-used too many themes we've seen before. Episode 8 needs a lot more new content than this.

Usually video games based directly on movies are absolutely terrible.

I grew up with these games, it was simple and straight forward yet they were really enjoyable.

I wish they'd make a Lego Star Wars ST game when the trilogy is over.

I would bet we will get a Lego TFA down the line. But most of today's tie in video games generally suck, and it seems games are moving away from them.

Gaming in general is getting kind of sucky...
This past Steam sale was kind of miserable. Minecraft/Day-Z clones, and 8-bit pixel graphics EVERYWHERE.

Do they make video game versions of movies anymore? I know there are simplistic kid games and app games, but in terms of fully realized console/computer games, I don't remember the last time I saw a movie tie-in game. There weren't games for Avengers 2 or Jurassic World

It used to be common practice, but these days video games take so much time and money to develop that it's not really a viable practice anymore. Graphics have become so sophisticated that it's no longer possible to throw a game together and still have it look like legitimit product.
