She did survive in the old EU, however in the new canon she is sadly 100% dead. Read Dark Disciple for details.

Edit, the quote system is acting all funny.

Thanks for the spoiler, I'm 3 months behind from missing her true fate, BTW the quoting system seems ok to me.

Thanks! And your points are super convincing as well (I have half a mind to join your side). However, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree for now. I don't like the idea of the ultimate sacrifice just yet, but maybe I'll come back around to it. To me, it just makes her feel like the proto-Luke in Vader's redemption story if she tries and fails, and I want her story to be more than that (note: this is just how I perceive it, not how it actually might be).

Yeah I kind of like the idea of her taking out the Inquisitors off screen more now! It gives her an purpose off screen and a reason to still be alive. I will say I usually like to reserve the "adventure to the edges of known space" theory for the Crew - specifically Ezra and Kanan - in my debates as to how they'll live, but it works for Ahsoka too :)

    Can't argue there.

How has Vader's motivation changed? He could still want to go after Ahsoka, but a more pressing matter about a certain growing rebellion (and the Emperor's orders) could call him away. Something could have happened during Rebels or she's off fighting another opponent like the Inquisitors (which could help explain why they're not around during the OT and could turn into a really fun/dark cat-and-mouse adventure comic or novel).

How mad he'd be depends on when she would meet him. If it's before ANH then yes, he'd probably be mad (or maybe she agrees with the idea that Luke needs to stay hidden). If it's after ANH but before ESB, then it's iffy. It could happen. Heck, Luke's first meeting with Vader is canonically in the comics way before ESB, so who knows what else they could throw in there. If it's after ROTJ, then it's totally fine. Actually, meeting after ROTJ would probably be good for Luke so if he does start up a new Jedi order, he knows what worked and what didn't in the past.

Shouldn't this argument be reversed? Kanan wants to be a Jedi, he just doesn't have the training. Ahsoka doesn't want to be a Jedi. She left the order specifically because they failed her. Does she still want to help people? Yes. Is she a Jedi? No.
Not all of the important characters are always shown in the OT. Look at Bail Organa; he played a pivotal part in the formation of the Rebellion and Obi-Wan's plan to protect the twins and all he gets is a name-drop in ANH with a few explanatory scenes in the PT. If she's doing something off-screen that's important (in the eyes of the fans who watch the show - only moviegoers/standard fans won't know or care), how much they mention her in the movies shouldn't be counted upon.

It's not really about how they view themselves but how outsiders view them. Whether Ahsoka likes it or not, she's still a Jedi and would still be hunted like one if her history is revealed to the Empire or to Vader and the Emperor. Kanan wants to be a Jedi, but in my opinion he isn't, which makes him a wannabe. At the same time, that doesn't mean that in-universe characters won't refer to him as a Jedi. It makes his character far more interesting because he's trying really hard to fill that role, but he's too passionate and filled with remorse so far to become a full fledged Jedi like Luke had. Having an apprentice brings him a lot closer, but he's really in no position to be training him which is something I think Ahsoka worries about.

I agree that she'll be hunted like a Jedi but she's not a Jedi because she left the Order. Kanan is a person who has some Jedi training, wants to be a Jedi, and is working towards being a Jedi; that makes him more of a Jedi than Ahsoka to me. Does she have more experience as a Jedi? Absolutely? Would she willingly associate herself with them? I'm doubting. If someone called her a Jedi, she'd correct them herself, so to me that proves that she's not a Jedi.

I think she will die for sure.
I can envision her actually using Anakin's emotion and defeating Vader in the presence of the emperor.
As another poster stated earlier in this thread, I think it will mimic the ROTJ ending where in the end Vader will lack the emotional ability to kill her and suffer a defeat because of this. Then the emperor has to step in and finish what vader could not.

Would she really feel that way after the Jedi Purge? I doubt it, she'd probably have a change of heart after she found out that almost all of the Jedi were killed, realizing that she's the only one left. Her problem in TCW was more with the Jedi Order itself and not necessarily the Jedi way of life. I actually think that she was a better Jedi than anyone at he end of TCW because she wasn't blinded by all of the dogma, much like Luke, which is basically the main reason she left the Order. If she truly didn't think of herself as a Jedi then she wouldn't have showed up in Rebels sporting her lightsabers and deciding to coach Kanan on how to train Ezra. She would have either renounced everything and hung up the lightsabers completely or turned to the darkside to destroy the Jedi, much like Bariss. I think by the time of Rebels she'd absolutely think of herself as a Jedi, maybe not directly after her exile in TCW, but certainly after all the Jedi were killed, and so would Kanan. Ahsoka is basically a Jedi Exile and Kanan is more of a Jedi outcast, so if someone close to her called her a Jedi in Rebels she really couldn't deny it without sounding like an idiot.

    "Are you a Jedi, Ahsoka?"

"What, me? No... See these lightsabers? I'm just really good at using them, I just use the force for sport, and I'm fighting the Sith because I have nothing better to do"

Technically possible, but that would be retconning, and retconning is annoying most of the time, plus, it lessens the importance of Leia.

You have to keep in mind the ''Jedi'' and ''Sith'' are simply ideals that could be compared to a religion and they are not the definite version of Light Side and Dark Side. You can be an evil or good force user and not belong to any of those two camps. The Dagoyan Masters were Light Side users and the Night Sisters were Dark Side users. These two camps were shown in CW and there may be many more that we know nothing of who have no relation to the Jedi or the Sith. When you talk about Ahsoka and her lightsabers I also bring to your atention another similar character who is exactly in the same predicament. This character is Asajj Ventress. What would you call Ventress since she is neither a Jedi or a Sith? She still continued to use her lightsabers in battle though even after she had quit Dooku's side. Then we also have the Inquisitors to think about wich fall into this same category. If at the moment of his death, Palpatine had told Vader that he was the last Sith, the inquisitors would still be running around and slicing people up with their lightsabers and this wouldn't affect old man Palps words. So the point we have to consider here is if Ahsoka still considers herself a Jedi or if she's more in a gray area like Ventress. If this were the case they wouldn't have to kill her off just so Yoda's words to Luke make sense.

I would have to disagree with you on this point my friend because it really would make more sense if it was Ahsoka than Leia. Take a look at what the EU did with Leia's character and you will see what I mean. Long through the EU even through the Yuuzhan Vong war, Leia was never a powerful Jedi and there were many others at that time who were really above her. Her character was geared more toward politics and she hardly could ever be considered the best hope for the Jedi had Luke kicked the bucket. Guys like Corran Horn or Kyp Durron could easily be considered better candidates as the ''other hope'' than Leia. Even her own children would have been considered better candidates as the other hope than her. Now as TFA looms closer, it seems that this movie is taking the same direction as the EU regarding Leia's character. While we are seeing lots of hype being directed towards Rey and Finn, nothing seems to tell us that in this new movie Leia is a powerful Jedi. I wish I were wrong and when Dec 18 finally comes along we would all be surprised by seeing Leia kick but with her very own lightsaber but somehow I'm getting the feeling that this is not going to happen and if this were the case and Leia is shown in this movie to be just a simple Rebel General and not a Jedi, then it would perfectly stand to say that Ahsoka could've been considered a better choice when Yoda said ''There is another''.

Doesn't change the fact that it is still a retcon, George was obviously referring to Leia as these other characters had not even been dreamed up yet. I am a huge EU fan myself, but it just doesn't add up with where Star Wars was at that point in time.

Part of the reason that Leia never fully takes up the Jedi mantle is because with Luke leading the way in that area she doesn't have to. I think if Luke were to die and Leia found out about her heritage, she would do anything necessary to defeat the Empire, including taking up the Jedi path. Also to be considered as far as the EU went, not to mention the new canon material, once the New Republic was formed, leaders with political experience were needed. If Luke had perished and both Vader and the Emperor still lived, I don't think Leia would hesitate to take up the Jedi path if she was approached by the force ghost of Obi-Wan. Additionally, even after the New Republic was formed, I think Leia would be compelled to stick with the Jedi path, since she would be the last of the Jedi at that point, at least until others were trained and able to continue the legacy. This is all speculation of course, but I always liked the Star Wars Infinities alternate take on ESB, where Luke actually perishes at the beginning and Leia has to take up the mantle, it is an interesting take for sure.

All of that being said, it is easily possible that they could retcon that line from the films, but retcons generally leave a bad taste in my mouth. It certainly wouldn't ruin the films for me by any means, but I find it completely unnecessary, and if they did do it, it would be done for fan service. Either way, I would ultimately just roll with it.

I understand my friend and you make valid points yet I still think that they went along a wrong path with Leia. Going along the lines of what you said I ask, what could Leia have done if Luke had indeed kicked the bucket? Who would she have learned from? If I were Leia and I knew that Luke was indeed the last of the Jedi and that if he were gone I would have been the last hope then I would have maken it my mission to train sinse I knew I was desperatly needed to help save the Jedi. Imagine that during the Thrawn trilogy Luke had been ran over by Bossk riding a crazy Dewback, what would Leia have done? Bossk would have clearly picked up Luke's lightsaber as he knows the weapons worth and that would have left us with a very lost Leia without even a clue of how to make a lightsaber or how to become a Jedi. It's the same if you and me were the last guys on Earth and you knew ninjitsu and apart from females there were evil mutants roaming around. Shouldn't I imediatly start training under you just in case anything happened? What good of a hope could I be if you were the only ninja master left and you kicked the bucket and I learned nothing from you because at that moment I was needed as a cook elsewhere? Shouldn't becoming a ninja be the real priority? I know that Leia was needed but there were still lots of great leaders that could have taken command during the time that Leia trained to save the order. Even if Mon Mothma was sick Akbar and General Madine were still around. Becoming a Jedi should have been Leia's top priority as she knew the dangers the Republic faced and more so knowing that her brother was the only guy left that could teach her how to become a Jedi.

I can see Leia having raw, somewhat untrained force powers akin to what she had in ESB. She can stretch out and feel things kind of like an empath, but she hasn't gotten to the point where she can manipulate objects with the force, much less wield a lightsaber properly. I think Luke has helped her tap into the force over the years, but she was right in ROTJ that she'll never reach the same level as him.

I agree that Leia should have taken a different path actually, but I also see how the presence of Luke allowed her to rationalize sticking with politics. Knowing Luke was there to carry on the Jedi Path, it makes it that much easier for her to stick to her comfort zone in politics. As for who would have trained her if Luke perished during the OT, I think that could have been accomplished through the force ghosts. By later in the EU timeline though, that does present some problems for sure.
    --- Double Post Merged, Oct 15, 2015, Original Post Date: Oct 15, 2015 ---
Its definitely unlikely that she would ever catch up to Luke if the both survived for sure. However, if Luke had perished, I think it would be a different case. It would be time consuming for sure, but it would be possible.

Force ghosts are visible by a force trainee. Luke is the only one to see Anakin, Yoda and Obi Wan at the end of Rotj.

That could be because they only want Luke to see them as well. Additionally, even if Leia couldn't see them, based on the way that Luke was able to reach out to her in ESB, it only makes sense that the force ghosts would be able to do the same ;).
