The new Disney parks are called Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and the setting for these parks is going to be an outpost on the yet-to-be-seen planet Batuu. Now we know that Batuu is going to be featured in the Thrawn: Alliances. Vader and Thrawn are sent to Batuu after Palpatine feels a disturbance in the force coming from that area. Thrawn must face his future and Vader must face his past. Very exciting stuff for Star Wars fans.

So what does it all mean? Does Lucasfilm have a plan to use this location in future films? Obviously the Disney parks take a great deal of planning. They chose to make these Disney parks a location we've never even seen before. Now we have some backstory coming with Thawn and Vader.

Will Batuu be featured in Episode IX? What does Lucasfilm have in store for this location?

Baatu will be THE star wars planet that most children will be familiar with after 10 years of star wars under disney.

If we follow this formula of 5 D&D movies(let's assume they are old republic)

And 3 Rian Johnson films than the schedule will follow this formula.

    2022: rj movie 1

    2023: D&D movie 1 (old republic)

    2024: RJ movie 2

    2025: D&D movie 2(old republic 2)

    2026: RJ movie 3

    2027: D&D movie 3(old republic 3)...celebration of star wars

    2029: D&D movie 4(old republic 4)

    2031: D&D movie 5 (old republic 5) final installment

2034: Skywalker saga returns...maybe with old republic elements and Rian Johnson trilogy elements coming into play this trilogy with elements from Mortis.

13 years...before the Skywalkers come back

Why not exploit batuu as the "starting planet" of the fourth star wars trilogy...maybe set a century or 2 after episode 9

Any potential protagonist would be sorrounded by adventure seekers but maybe even sheltered by a controlling parent. And that child will be starving for adventure till it finds them...revealing their skywalker heritage.

Batuu being the tatoowine of the trilogy...a planet that most children will be familiar with

Nah. Brand synergy is cool and all, but there's a reason why Batuu's first appearance is a novel - it's there for lore fanatics to obsess over, not to advertise an amusement park. Galaxy's Edge will be buzzing with tourists regardless and the fact that it appears in a Thrawn book is just a cool piece of trivia for the die-hard fans.

Originally I said no, but now.... it might be possible. I am sure they will have an Endor like planet, a forest planet of some kind in 9.

Also, I would imagine that with all the interactivity of the park, the "canon" version of the planet, what it looks like and what went down on it might be in kind of a grey area. So overall, I think the chances of Batuu ever appearing in live action are low and they will likely keep it as a playing ground for the park.

Whatever the play is for the park, the period is long after the events in the Thrawn book.

I doesn't make sense that Disney would build this on a random planet. The films trump everything else so it's likely it ties in somehow.

An actual article on the SWNN main page tells about Batuu being in Solo, or did I get this info wrong ( wouldn't be the first time)? :)

I think it's possible Batuu will be brought into a film at some point but I think they're grounding it in Canon so when people visit they can pretend that they're standing on the same ground Vader, Thrawn and whoever else stood on.

Could it be in IX? Sure. Do I think it will be? No. I think we would be more apt to see it as a location in only books and comics....MAYBE a series or another movie. For it to be an in-canon, permanent location I think it is better if it is far enough removed from the main saga films to not be overly scrutinized. I honestly think it will probably be kept to books and comics though.

The planet's rich backstory is more of a bonus for fans and guests and not required reading to enjoy the park. Just because people go vacation and experience Star Wars Land does not mean they will be huge fans or have even seen all of any of the movies.

Many people who LOVE the Avatar addition to Animal Kingdom have never seen the movie. And it doesn't impact their enjoyment one way or the other. It is because the time period guests are visiting Pandora is LONG after the events of the movie.

My guess is that Batuu is more of a blank slate of a planet created for the theme park that is getting some supplementary material to flesh it out before the park opens. I think stuff like movies will shy away from it, so as not to bind it too heavily in canon. The looser the interpretation, the better.

They could be going in that direction, but it seems like they'd want to carve out an iconic spot from the films where people could visit. Harry Potter has done that with having Diagon Alley at the part. Making it a place people are familiar with helps draw people.

Maybe, but Diagon Alley was part of the Harry Potter series from book 1, well over a decade before Harry Potter World was opened and long before J.K. Rowling or her titular character were even the household name they were by the early-mid 2000s.

Batuu seems to be more designed specifically for the park itself- at least, as far as I remember, that's the context we first learned of it in.

It is clear that the center of importance in Star Wars franchise is turning to the unexplored regions of the galaxy, where the knowledge about the Force came from.

According to news from upcoming canon novel Thrawn : Alliances , Palpatine sends Darth Vader and admiral Thrawn in to a mission to investigate strange disturbance in the Force he felt on Batuu.

Palpatine considers this disturbance to be more important even than the threat of rebellion.
    (wow)

It is to be seen does this have anything to do with the story in the sequel trilogy, but something tells me it does.

I will watch this developments with great interest.
