It happened with Han Solo. I think it's inevitable for Luke Skywalker. It's only a matter of time before we see Mark Hamill's legendary character being portrayed by another actor. For me, I wan't to see more Luke. I think I could adjust to another person playing him depending on their acting chops, but that's just me. I think a spin off set between TESB and ROTJ, or ROTJ and TFA could be interesting, depending of course on the execution. Whether it be a spin off or a series of movies or even a TV series, how do you feel about another actor in the iconic role?

EDIT: Do to light shed on the topic by various members, I've decided to edit the title, but I will stay true to my main post.

Hmm... I'd like Star Wars to branch out to other eras for a while, but I could see a return of Luke (between the OT and ST) maybe in 15-20 years.

    I had to vote "No".

The difference for me between the Solo and Luke comparison is that we saw Han in ANH in his 30's, so there was still a backstory with enough time before that to tell, and making him "Young Han Solo" may work...although I still think its sacrilegious to recast Fords character...it just send shudders down my spine, but I'm going to go see it AND it will be part of my collection.

As far as Luke, I will give a stern "No" unless you recast Luke REALLY young...like Jake Lloyd/Anakin...then fine, but when we first met Luke he was just a snot-nosed teenager then, so he could only get younger if recast.

Recast Luke for a show/movie taking place after the OT....absolutely not. It will be THEN that I'll jump on the "Disney will milk SW to death" bandwagon. :)

    Just no...

No. It's one thing for one actor to play young Han or Obi-Wan and another to play the older version. It's something else for a character to magically become another actor halfway through life before switching back later.

Here's what I want: make Luke a major player in the new animated show and cast Mark Hamill again as the voice. Boom.

Yeah, I think the biggest obstacle is we see Luke in two eras.

I love Hammil, but they could have recast him before he appeared in the ST, if needed (I'm glad they didn't).

But to go from OT Hammil to ST Hammil kinda makes it hard to throw a non-Hammil actor in between.

And apparently that Sebastian Stan picture isn't accurate, and the photo of Stan is actually already been merged with Hammil with a face swap app.

I don't know. I think I could let my imagination go to work if I we're to see another actor portray him in between the OT and ST, though I will admit it may be a bit odd to see another actor thrown smack dab into the middle of the chronology portrayed by one person all these years, I see your points on that. @Trevor @Jaxxon

Ok so let me ask this question. Do you all think Disney WILL try to pull off a young adult Luke with another actor?

I could see them recasting Luke for a story (or stories) set between the OT and the ST, but only in some 20 to 30 years from now.

It's an interesting thought, because while Hammil's performance obviously isn't going anywhere, it might at least help us forget a bit what Hammil did look like in the 1990s, I guess. Maybe this "missing Link" (missing Luke?) could be easier to accept then.

    I have absolutely no idea.

But I wouldn't mind. When it comes to Star Wars, I'm a milk fan!

Yes. And it will be a voice actor set between ROTJ and TFA

That's exactly it. They could easily do a younger Luke, just like they've done a younger Obi-Wan and Han, but that story would be very dull (unless dullness is the point of the story). I know for myself, that if I'm going to see a movie about Luke, I want to see him use his Force abilities, which would only leave that during the course of the OT, or between that time gap of the OT and ST.

So, if they are going to recast Hamill and have a story that's worth telling, we need some time to separate the actor from the character.

I’m not entirely opposed to it, but I think the idea of Luke having a standalone film the way Han does would be beyond stupid. Characters like Vader and Luke don’t need standalone films—the entire saga revolves around them. However, if they ever recast someone at a point in his life where he was significantly younger than how he appears in A New Hope, I might be okay with it.

In all honesty, though, they should just avoid any issues and not do that at all. Hopefully they’ve learned from the audience response to the marketing for Solo. People are on board, but most generally think the film just shouldn’t have happened. There are so many opportunities to expand beyond the characters we know in the Star Wars universe. As much as I understand that familiarity sells, they really need to stop tying themselves down to the Skywalkers because they’re characters we care about that are inevitably going to get ruined at some point or another.

In short, I’m not against it, but I would strongly advise that Lucasfilm steers clear of that altogether and focuses on characters outside of what we already know.

What if someone portrayed Luke as a cameo in a future film, not unlike his appearance in Battlefront II?

    Alright, alright, alright...

I would not mind having a cameo of little Luke in a Obi-Wan standalone (like the stories we learned from the Journal of Obi-Wan Kenobi from the current Marvel Star Wars main story comics or the one included in From A Certain Point of View). If they get Jacob Tremblay would be nice too.

Regarding a story in between TESB and ROTJ, I would be a little more skeptical since we do have Mark Hamill being Luke during that period of time.

However, if they ask me about doing a live-action series of Luke starting his Jedi Academy with young Ben, and bringing Sebastian Stan (especially after seeing this one in "I, Tonya" sporting a mustache and actually getting a positive reaction from Mark Hamill's daughter regarding the so-called resemblance with her father) I would not oppose to it. I don't think a stand-alone would be a good idea, but maybe an episode or two inside a live-action series or something like that could possibly work.
