You know what , you sound just like me when it comes to Tolkien and the LOTR movies. I am a die hard book purist and while I enjoyed aspects of the movies, they will never approach the books.....oh well....to each his own!

Oh man. If the new films had been direct adaptations of the EU stories... Even if they weren't 100% accurate, it would have been absolutely incredible. Seeing Mara Jade, the Noghri, Corran Horn, Treasure Ship Row... That would have been it, I'd have been in paradise. :)

Same...Out of what you listed there, I love Mara Jade and Corran Horn. Two of my most favorite EU characters. Thrawn is another and I am glad he's canon...so here's hoping the other two will make it...oh and I also like Mirax Terrik.

Ah, Mirax. And her father Booster with his ship, the red painted Imperial Star Destroyer, Errant Venture. :) Also, I really appreciate all the references Rebels has made to the EU, Thrawn included. So, when it comes down to it, save for one instance in my case (Han Solo), I don't think Disney can take away everything I love about Star Wars. Even though they dumped the EU into the pit of non-canonicity, it still exists and it's just as good as ever. :)

In my opinion Disney will "TRY" no keep SW alive BUT their OWN way and style.I Love and enjoy TFA and R1 a lot BUT nothing like GL imagination. He is the FATHER of this magical world he built in 1977.I wish GL had NEVER sold the rights BUT .....

@Light Savior_47 .....but if GL did not sell, would we have an Ep 7-8-9? I truly think Disney is balancing new ideas with the core of GL's SW very well. Don't you think Disney is responsible for building a whole new generation of fans?

I know is true that we will not have EP.7,8,9 BUT GL mind is PRICELESS.It was his creation. Is like that someone built the car of HIS dreams and decide to sell it.The NEW owner will buy it BUT for sure two things will happen. The NEW owner will keep it the same way OR do mods and change things on it.Is what happen. The NEW owner is doing "changes" to the original car. Most people will remember the car how it was before. The NEW look is what make the car different BUT is NOT the same car.I love the car new look BUT still remember that classic style.

Love the classy cars and love classy with mods.BUT i'm old school....;).I love the SW OT so much.

George loved the Clone Wars, and fan reaction was only getting better so I think if he had not sold, the continuous positive reactions to TCW might have finally made him revisit his treatments (which he did do) of the ST and maybe convince him to give it a go (but maybe bringing in Kasdan and Spielberg since he said he didn't enjoy doing it alone in the PT).

George's imagination is exactly why I hope he eventually comes back to Lucasfilm, obviously he can never buy it back but I think Disney would respect him enough to listen to his ideas. If he was up to it he should definitely give an Anthology a try or maybe finally get a live action show running.

Let's do a little poll. I'd like everyone to imagine a scale from 1 to 10.

A "1" is defined as Disney Star Wars movies that go off completely and totally on their own. New characters, no ties to previous SW characters or stories. New starships, never seen before in SW. New musical score, completely and totally different than JW themes. New cinematography. New worlds, not canon or legend.

A "10" is defined as Disney Star Wars movies that completely recreate previous SW movies. Mainly previously seen characters. No new starships, completely exactly the same as previous SW movies. John WIlliams' themes used througout. SW sounds, cinematography. SW worlds all previously seen.

Where would you grade TFA and R1 on this scale? I give Disney about a 6-7.....No "trashing" of anything.

7 because if you remove the John Williams style, the the sounds and aesthetic it is no longer Star Wars, that being said I have no problem with Disney creating their own stuff to add to that, if we get to the point where there are no more original character and only the new ones (like Finn, Rey, Kylo, and Poe) and the series is still doing well than by all means they better continue. But they should not try to just copy what made Star Wars great, keep all the listed things in mind but still come up with something new and original to add and eventually that will become "Star Wars."
TFA was a 9 because as much new stuff there was, there was a lot of "new" like D'Qar being just another Yavin or Starkiller being another Death Star, they are new but not enough, if that makes sense.
R1 is an 8 because almost everything is aesthetically OT (as it should) but it added some new things to the mythology like the Whills and Jedha, it isn't quite a 9 because the score just didn't feel as "Star Wars" as it should have.

Thank you, @Finn is a Jedi , for being honest. So far, looks like no "trashing" of any GL stuff, right?

The only way I think they could "trash" anything GL did would be to do something like reveal Anakin wasn't the chosen one or that like Obi Wan had a secret family that he never told anyone about just so that Rey can be a Kenobi, something that drastically screws with something already established. Anything else though, exploring the force more, or new protagonists unrelated to the old ones, that kind of stuff I don't think can "trash" GL's legacy. I do however think that if they really do end the jedi in TLJ it will. If they end the jedi but replace it with something new maybe called "the Ashla" or "Ashla-Jedi" that is fine, but there needs to be that element of Star Wars, it was so important to the OT. The whole plot was to bring the jedi back that it would feel wrong to completely erase that entirely.
