One of my observations/feelings about The Last Jedi was that it felt like film the last film in a trilogy, and not the middle installment.

While there are still a lot of places the story can go and endless possibilities for the characters, I feel like a lot of the mystery and story threads of the trilogy were explained or addressed in The Last Jedi.

Do you think that Episode IX will be more of a self-contained story with a solid beginning, middle, and end or is there still enough for it to really feel like the final chapter in a trilogy?

Episode IX will be the most predictable film in SW history. Ben Ren dies. The FO or what ever Ren will call it will lose. Hux dies. All the good leads live.

The only mystery is if KR gets a redemption or dies evil.

Like I said in another thread: Maybe Rey dies as well ... because balance, you know. Harry Potter Style.

I hope not. I feel like Disney needs to invest into the new characters storywise. There is so much potential stuff to be explored with Rey past the ST (maybe in a different media too) that would be cut short with her death. It would be like killing Luke off with his dad at the end of RotJ.

Except that... Harry Potter didn't die. His death was teased.

I can see them do something similar with Rey though, since TLJ had a record breaking amount of those types of "gotcha!" moments. For example: Rey will be shown dying.... But then the Force magically resurrects her or something.

Yes. That's what I meant with "Harry Potter Style".

It can't be any more predictable than RotJ or RotS. It seems like a strange thing to be gripe about. It's a Star Wars movie - if you're wanting to see something other than good triumphing over evil, you're looking at the wrong franchise.

We've seen enough good triumphing over evil. If the makers of these movies really want to "do something different" and "shake things up" then it's time to tell a story where the First Order wins ;-)

snoke/prime jedi theory was the easy and quick path to tying all 3 trilogies together...now I do not see how episode 9 will feel like the conclusion to 9 movies

Where does it say that Ep 9 will have the final conclusion?
There probably will be another trilogy after this one that continues this storyline.

Jj Abrams thinks of episode 9 in the mindset that it is the final installment. He said this in a interview

Don't you think he means the final instalment of this trilogy?

I think there will probably be some sort of conclusion in Ep 9, but it will also be open ended for any possible future movies.
Think of it, it wouldn't make any sense if it all just ends with Ep 9.

The resistance wins and they all live happily ever after?
I just don't see it going that way.
