Will Jyn Erso die?

Seven Samurai (a Kurosawa film) is one of the original examples of such an ending hence I've referenced it

 

Most great war movies kill off all of the heroes. The Dirty Dozen, Saving Private Ryan, The Thin Red Line, The Longest Day, Aliens (come on, it's totally a war film) etc.

If those films are the models, then most likely the most damaged character (Bodhi) will find redemption, but die. The most innocent character (Chirrut) will be forced to do something drastic, then die. The badass yet expendable warriors (Saw & Baze) will perform a selfless action to save innocents, then die. The second in command (Cassian) will stay behind to delay the impending onslaught, then die. The only survivors will be the comic relief (K2-SO) and the reluctant rebel (Jyn).

That's my prediction.

Part of me wants them all to survive but... if that is the case, would they leave the Rebellion or keep working with it?

Maybe Jyn finds her father and rescues him. Then she leaves the Rebellion to go and try to recover the lost time with his father - breaking Cassian's heart since he stays with the Rebellion lol. (I know, enough with shipping but even Felicity Jones hinted at some kind of thing between them.) And the rest of the fellas stay working with the Rebellion, as part of other Squadron around the galaxy that do not interact directly with our main OT heroes.

But that's me being optimistic.

Part of me thinks that, to keep the degree of despair we listen in Princess Leia's voice when she is recording that message to Master Kenobi, all the Rebel spies who stole the Death Star plans died.

1. Great point. I think it's evident in her message to Kenobi that there was a great sacrifice to get the DS plans, and it will have been in vain if the plans can't reach the rebellion.

 

I think Jin's ship will be blown out the sky just after she transmits plans to blockade runner. That explains why we don't see her in the OT. Or they might keep it Hollywood and have her escape after she beams the plans. This is a huge galaxy, I think she lived the rest of her life in the outer rim low key like...

 

Or they do both and she escapes as the ship explodes but we don't know it (unless you look very carefully).

No way. She's female, and female protagonists don't die. It's the law. My guess is she'll be captured and tortured by Vader, so we'll all be happy when she comes out on top. And by "tortured" I don't mean a repeat of what happened to Rey, I mean actual torture. Evil Vader taking pleasure in tormenting someone who can't fight back. Truth be told, I'll only watch the movie because I hope to see evil Vader. I want to hate him, it's been a long time since a movie made me angry lol

 

No, they retire as heroes on the planet Alderaan. . . .

 

She need to die a horrible painful death at the hands of Darth Vader. In fact the depravity of how he kills her buys him loyalty and additional trust of Palpatine.
Her death needs to make you mad and hateful of Anakin "Darth Vader" Skywalker. He need to choke her to death with a child in belly...and he knows it.

Of course Disney will urinate a way a chance to make this story last 100 years but oh well.

 

I actually think these 2 are much closer to the truth. I think since we know that the movie leads up to right before the OT, that her demise could be not seen on screen, let for imagination (comics/books). I have been thinking that what if one part of the plans she steals she finds evidence her father is prisoner on the death star. maybe with her team gone and the plans in the hands of the rebels, she goes to save him. and we know what happens to the death star. did she get on and get him, did she die as the rebels blew it up. she knew that is what was going to happen but needed to go anyway.
of course I could poke holes in that theory, but I htink it is close. we will see all others die but her, she will be left mysterious. like Joan of arc .....but with more marketability $$$$

I didn't know they changed the ending.
Maybe the execs were unhappy with the entire Rogue One crew dying.

 

Everyone dies, its pretty much implied in a new hope. I do think Jyn Erso dies last though.

 

I sure hope this doesn't mean that KK wanted to R1 to relate to TFA and they had to change the story to please her.

if she doesn't die, i'd like to know why a rebel hero is silent for a whole trilogy.

A hero that gets to be in on meetings with rebel high command in the prepping of an assault on the imperial archives and seemingly is personally responsible for the plans successfully reaching leia.

 

I myself is very conflicted about all of that. Sure, I wanna see them all die to make it at least a different Star Wars Movie. But its Star Wars...Even TESB tho grim and dark never was that fatal for the characters.


If one or more survive I hope there is a really good explanation for that. Because it would look bad for the Empire not to have elimintated those Rebel Spies.
