Will Kylo Ren Make Me Have Faith In Star Wars Once More?

Yeah this was my initial wish after TFA. I wanted to watch someone becomes a dark side master, and actually get to rule in a way Vader never achived due to his servitude. If the villains won, or partially won by the end of this Saga, and Kylo Ren did in fact complete Vader's/anakins ambition to become a master of the force and use it to rule the galaxy, that would be interesting. a bit like Leto II in Dune, using his dark powers to enforce peace...though thats not exactly Leto II's story.

I also think if they're gonna redeem Ren, which seems increasingly likely due to marketing material, then It would be good to do it sooner rather than later, to avoid the vader arc of Evil-Evil-Redeemed-dead

 

My hope for Kylo is that he either goes so dark that he never comes back (second choice) or that he gets redeemed in this movie and plays a major role in the IX movie making up for his past (my favorite option). I think it would be kind of cool to see if he and Rey are in someway pitted against the Resistance and the First Order, maybe through a shocking revelation about Luke's Jedi temple swaying Rey, and Kylo betraying Snoke. I don't know, I think something like that would be cool. Whatever happens I am a Kylo apologist, so I'll love it no matter what, but I really hope he convinces his detractors in this movie that he is an awesome character.

 

I loved him in TFA. Actually Kylo was my favorite character in the movie.
His personality is amazing. He is destroyed by inside, sometimes I.have the impression that the character has some real mental problems. Something relevant happened during his childhood and youth to hate so.much Han and Leia. And iam interested on how they will.explain that.

 

2 things Disney didn't have the "planets" 2 do.

1. Rey turns dark, Ben returns 2 the light.

2. Full on dark side KR.

Kylo Ren is my favorite character beside Luke Skywalker. So he already made me have faith in Disney's Star Wars.

Rian Johnson would never rehash TESB. I don't know about JJ though.

Kylo Ren's story is already fresh for the story and takes the ST in a completely new direction. We have never seen a dark side user who is tempted by the light side before. Furthermore if he gets redeemed in TLJ, then we would have even more fresh stuff. We have never seen a redeemed dark side user who fights for the "good" guys.

 

There are ways to redeem him and not make him a Vader clone, perhaps most obviously him not dying after being redeemed.

Yeah, I’m in the same boat. If they end up giving us Redeemed, Random, and ReyLo, it’s going to take me quite a while to come around to it.

Especially in light of - dead Han, defeated and broken old Luke, and tragic Leia...who now has to be written out of the story.

The idea that the best hope we get is a Ben Solo who killed his own father, slaughters a village, tortured and maimed people - is redeemed is rather depressing.

I didn’t hate TFA. Some of it is quite good. Some of it isn’t. My favorite character is actually Rey. (Aside from legacy ones)

I didn’t think Kylo was cool. He was a punk. A wannabe. A sissy.

Not evil enough to be bad, but doing really messed up stuff that makes him not good. And throwing tantrums. He’s basically a teenager Vader.

I think Adam is a great actor and played it well...it’s the actual character that sucks.

I am hopeful this film makes us understand him more. And opens up new directions for the character. I’d rather see him as a bad guy, who occasionally surprises and does a good thing. More unexpected. Joins his sister to destroy Snoke but they then go separate ways at the end of 9.

The brat from a broken home who joins a gang, and then goes to church and realizes he messed up, and comes home sorry and crying, is a great story in real life.

It makes for a very weak SW villian.

But I’m open to convincing - any big ReyLo supporters - try me. I’m open to listen, honestly.

Help me understand why it’s good for the movies and for SW as a whole.

I am not trolling, but I honestly think that you will be disappointed with the film. To paraphrase Luke, "This is not going to go the way you think".

 

How do you even know what we are getting now?

Full dark side Kylo is coming. Rey dark side shouldn't happen and wouldn't even make sense.

He already is an awesome character.

Like it or not isn't and wasn't almost a carbon copy of ANH. I'd say he will unleash fury in TLJ.

They are fresh with great characters. TFA wasn't ANH and you haven't even seen TLJ yet, but I can tell you will not like TLJ at all from what you have fantasized in your head of what it should be.

 

I think it's been hashed out a million times before: TFA echoed parts of ANH to prime fans for a new series. If that wasn't your cup of tea, that's fine, but that's why it was done.

TLJ should be much more of a departure from what we know, for better or for worse. So, if your biggest complaint about TFA was that it was a "carbon copy" (I completely disagree, by the way, but that's neither here nor there) then I think more than Kylo should appeal to you with this film. Though I'm certainly looking forward to his return, as well!

 

We are getting a star wars version Ken Ichijouji . At least Ken was a kid. and he had the reason he thought he killed his brother. I'm not seeing a sibling story with Kylo, unfortunatey.

 

Brother u read my mind with those 1st 3 paragraphs. If anything Kylo is doing much worse then his grandad, lets compare ANH to TFA.

Vader boards the Tantive 4 an enemy vessel. He only kills the uncooperative captain. He takes prisoners.

Kylo lands in a peaceful village, destroys it, kills it's leader & survivors. Only Poe taken alive.

Vader Order his troops 2 find droids on Tatooine. They only kill those who don't cooperates.

Kylo looks 4 a droid & kills almost everyone at Maz's.

Vader Force chokes a cuck who personally mocked him & verbally attacked his religion.

Ren Force chokes a poor lackey who was just doing his job.

Vader interogates Leia medicaly. 1 person. But Ren mind violates 2.

Vader kills Kenobi in the heat of combat. Ren kills an unarmed peaceful Han.

 

I kind of look at it differently as everyone thinks that Kylo will redeem himself like Vader as the PT/OT was very black and white in that respect.

I see Rey and Kylo Trilogy more about the Grey areas of the Force. While the PT/OT were more about the actions you took on others that sealed your fate, I think this Trilogy is more about the actions you take on yourself.

The PT was about Anakin, the OT was about Luke and followed them for 3 movies until it all tied together within them at the end of ROTJ. This is the first SW Trilogy that is following 2 main characters and I find it very interesting because I think THEIR actions will put the audience in the position of questioning whether you agree with it or not. That’s why I say to not be fooled into thinking TFA was a carbon copy of ANH as it did around the edges, but you dig into the core of the movie, it’s a different way of storytelling.

I understand what the op is saying. I mean there was so much potential for Kylo, so much depth. So much nastiness, craziness and greed. But its Disney you got to expect it. This is what happens you get flat cartoon caricatures like I mentioned, like Digimon.

Ken, in his core, is a sweet and kind person. He is polite and courteous towards others, and has a gentle spirit. Ken is very intelligent and athletic. Under the Dark Spore's influence, he became a top-level computer programmer and soccer player, and also excelled in activities like chess and judo. Even without said influence, Ken has good grades and is better at soccer than a talented player like Davis. Ken knows how to speak some Spanish, allowing him to communicate easily with Rosa in Mexico


Sound familiar? It's kiddy stuff, its Disney. There will be no dark madness nor angst. You want that, its game over. We are not getting it. I could write so much more and how I feel its all shallow. But you can't.
