Lando should have been given the role of Holdo.

Absolutely yes, Lando should return in episode IX. Especially now since it's a given Han, and Leia will not appear (I'm sure we'll get Luke as a force ghost). As far as how they could pull it off, there's always still the question of how Maz got Luke/Anakin's saber on Bespin, and we haven't gotten enough of Maz thus far in the sequel trilogy either: she'll definitely appear in IX. I can't help but think that with Lando as the administrator of Cloud City, they could easily tie him in as having known and been friends with Maz, and having something to do with how Maz acquired Luke's saber...

You can probably count on a cameo of him at some point, but I don't think it would be an extended part. Just a hunch of course.

I do see Kylo having a broad swath of power at the start of IX, with the rebellion fleeting and fleeing as usual. I can see Episode IX killing anyone at all related to Darth Vader to put a nice period on the 9 installments, which after all, begin with the birth of Vader.

So in reality Lando if he shows up probably lives, but Kylo's destiny does not look good.

I think no. I would like to see him though. I mean considering that he hasn't been in TFA or TLJ I don't know why they even bother with it now. I mean at this point unless he plays a very important role in the story. Don't get me wrong I really like Lando but they should have introduced him in TLJ. It is for sure a tough choice and I would be tempted to say yes. Just not yet.

Surprised that nobody has started a thread about this in the Casino Cantina

So? Christopher Lee was 80 in Attack of the Clones; 83 in Revenge of the Sith.

Don't be such an age-ist, dude :) (<-- just kidding about the ageist thing)

I think it makes much sense to bring Lando back for IX (now that almost everybody else are gone and there's room for another good-oldy to return), if only for a minor cameo, especially since the character will see a revival with Solo: A Star Wars Story. That, and Star Wars can never get enough of Billy Dee ;)

A better question would be "If Lando returned, what is he back for?". Returning just to be a token walk-on cameo in another film is just cheap and a waste of the character. He needs a good reason, and not just to be another "big name" lured in for ticket sales and only to be misused and/or killed off.

Yea, given we haven't seen him yet, I don't see why he would return now. I think if any thing, he could have had a cameo sitting at a Sabaac table on Canto Bight

As others have mentioned if they do open with Leia's funeral it would be a nice touch for him to make an appearance and then possibly join the resistance to help out. If Lando is such a hit in the Solo movie then people will be back on the Lando bandwagon and want more of him. No doubt even an old Lando will look stupidly stylish and charming.

Would have been made him a "traitor" again (according to Rose)...

Haven't we only seen about a week in the life of the resistance? Not seeing someone for a week isn't that unlikely.

It's not only about a number, Christopher Lee was in much better physical condition than Billy Dee seems to be...

Anyway, even if Billy can do the part, I doubt that we will see him...

Well anything is certainly possible. Just with two movies in and he hasn't been apart of the resistance or mentioned yet, sitting in a casino seemed to be a natural, easy choice if they were planning on putting him in in my opinion.

What’s the point? If they bring him back they are just going to kill him off in favor of younger less interesting characters.

Yeah, no Carrie, Luke is a ghost at best, they have Lando in the Solo movie, and Disney wants dat non-white male virtue signal, yo. All these factors together lead me to believe Lando is an absolute lock for Ep 9 - as long as Billy Dee is interested. That's the biggest deciding factor in my mind.

Also, I'm willing to bet Donald Glover is going to be the best part of the Solo movie, so, that could stoke the Lando fires among the fandom just in time for Ep 9's production.

Not including Lando from the get go is one of the biggest mistakes they made. Lando had one of the most interesting transitions from TESB to ROTJ in terms of character development. While at Bespin, Han implied already a change in him in terms of his "career" his potential as a character in the universe received even more depth in ROTJ as basically being one of the leaders in the Battle of Endor. They should have switched Admiral Akbar with Lando in the new films, give Lando a more prominent role and have Akbar maybe only being a background character if include him in the movie at all.

The fact Johnson thought about having Lando as the Del Torro character and come to the conclusion "Well no Lando can't cheat the resistance" poses the question... did these dimwits even watch the OT? How can you be so narrow minded and thinking about forcing a character into your storyline even when it is totally out of character: How about "What if I include Lando as a general. Han depatured in TFA, there is a slot to be filled just like Lando filled with when Han got frozen in carbonite." No instead, it is limited entertaining the ridiculous idea having Lando being the "traitor"
