SPECULATION Will Mon Mothma return in EPISODE 8 ?

I think she will be. Small bit part, maybe.

 

"In Endor's aftermath, the Rebellion formed the New Republic and headquartered the new Galactic Senate on Chandrila. Mothma was elected as the first chancellor of the New Republic Senate and intended to do away with Palpatine's emergency powers, which the Senate gave to the office of the New Republic chancellery. She also intended to demilitarize the Republic, hoping to cut the New Republic Starfleet by ninety percent while leaving the defense of member worlds to the worlds themselves. When the war with the Empire finally came to end, the Republic and the Imperial remnants signed the Galactic Concordance and the Republic passed the Military Disarmament Act. The end of Mothma's chancellery brought a close to a period of unity in the Republic, with several political factions breaking out in disagreement over the best future for the new government.

Retirement

Mothma became ill and stepped down as Chancellor. However, her successors lacked Mothma's charisma, and failed to create that same political consensus as she did. In her absence, the New Republic fell into chaos and the Galactic Senate became divided into two factions: the Populists, who believed that individual member planets should retain their full sovereignty, and the Centrists, who favored a stronger galactic government and a larger military.

(6 years before TFA) Mothma showed her personal support of Leia after it was publicly revealed that she was the daughter of Darth Vader. Her message to Leia indicated that she had suspected the truth for some time before the announcement."

She would be 80 years old in TLJ.

 

It depends on if she is even alive I think. Was she on one of those planets that were blown up? If not, i think it's also a possinility she'd show up since Han was a general and all
.

 

I would love it for her to appear. It's a shame she's kind of been swept under the rug in favor of Genevieve, even though I'm glad Genevieve finally got her moment to shine as the younger Mon.

I hated those rumors that they would recast with Judi Dench for The Force Awakens. I was like "Erm, hello, Caroline Blakiston is still alive..."

 

I concur. In terms of the character, if she was ill enough to not come out of retirement when everything started going down hill during the elections for First Senator (I believe that was the term, but correct me if I'm wrong?) and thereafter then it could certainly be a terminal illness in my mind, as I otherwise think it would go against the character's arc to not have her turn up at some point.

 

More likely, if she's still alive, she's being tended to on her home planet of.. was it Chandrila? Or Corellia? I forget. But it would be nice to see her have a moment with Leia one last time

 

I don't think we will see her. Having her in it at this point would just be fan service. I don't see a good reason to have her show up. Her time to lead has come and gone.

Should DEFINITELY bring her back now that Carrie has passed. I hope they bring her back in Episode 9, and I hope Billy Dee gets his MUCH needed cameo.

 

I think if there is a funeral of someone important like Leia (who she calls a friend) or Han (her friends husband) it would be odd if she wouldn't appear at least in the background somewhere. Even for a ceremonial for the people of Hosnian Prime it would be plausible for her to show up, even if she isn't involved in politics anymore, because of her health.
