More like Bantha Fodder :p lol...to elaborate, R1 is pretty much supposedly a war-type movie at least in the look and feel of it. Saving Private Ryan was an example I gave of a war movie that R1 might emulate. At that point, if you're a fan of a movie like SPR, then you're more inclined to enjoy/like R1 rather than having it be as black and white as liking it because you like/dislike The OT .

So, it would be as black and white as if you like SPR you'll like R1? And did you call me bantha fodder?

See, I EXACTLY agree with this. I too am skeptical of R1, but will nevertheless spend the money to see it and subsequently own it. I was just never that interested in finding out "How many Bothans died" as it was just simply a passing line that never generated the interest in the backstory. I saw the OT in theaters when it premiered starting in '77 also, and TFA did it for me.

I have hope for R1, and admittedly am more interested since it was mentioned that Vader would be in it....just not fixated on it....it's not a "Skywalker" story, so....not so much.

yeah, i'll go see it. i've got a mostly open mind. but i agree: not really a piece of the story i feel needs to be told. and i'd really like to not have my opinion of Vader any more tampered with than the PT already did ~ hahaha.

I'm one of the Old guys, being 7 years old on opening night for Star War. Our small town theater was so packed all the kids had to sit on the floor in front of the front row. I was almost looking straight up at the screen. Can you imagine the impact of that opening scene of the Star Destroyer flying over on a 7 year old! Amazed is an understatement.

My generation fell in love with Star Wars. We fell in love with Luke, Han, Leia, Chewy, 3PO, R2, Vader, X-wings, Y-wings, The Falcon, Star Destroyers, Tie fighters, AT-ATs etc. After ROTJ, we longed for more. The PT didn't bring us any of this. It was a whole new world with new characters and new vehicles, NOT the Star Wars we fell in love with.

TFA brought some of the things we loved back. Hopefully, R1 will as well. It has the potential to bring almost EVERYTHING we loved back. I can't wait to see Vader again and hear the Imperial March! I want to see rumbling AT-ATs again and REAL X-wings!!

I have a feeling that R1 is going to be an amazing movie us OLD Guys will LOVE! However, I had hopes for the PT as well but quickly learned that they weren't the movies we were looking for!

I agree with the guy above me, I'm one of the biggest fans of the OT and TFA brought some of that magic but think R1 will bring the magic for some of us old guys, Like having T65 xwings flying over some jungle forest in some of the old Rouge Squadron comic books I used to read when a kid I think it's going the best a star wars story movie, and personal I'm a big fan of them going back and explaining how the death star plans got stolen I hope though disney has a Kyle Katan easter egg in the movie welp that's my thoughts.

quick preface, i'm younger then the OG fans, but a few years older then the PT generation. anyway, if rogue one is everything they say it is(saving private ryan in space) then i could potentially like it more then just TFA(which i loved) but could contend for number one... if they pull it off. but everything i've heard about it has me very excited.

The more I've thought about R1 and the whole Star Wars story, the more I think fans fit into one of two categories or a blending of the two.

From fans I've had discussions with, there seems to be either 1) Force Fans or 2) War Fans or a mix of the two. Some fans seem really stuck on the story of the Jedi and Sith while others love the war machine of the Star Wars universe.

With that thought, I guess the if the Force is on the Left and the War is on the right, looks like R1 will be a Right film. So, a fans feelings for R1 would probably depend on where they are on the scale from Left to Right.

    That make any sense?

If Vader is actually in this with a reasonable amount of screen time and there are a whole bunch of combat scenes, just take my freakin' money.

I am an "older" fan since I was 11 years old when the original Star Wars made its debut and changed my life. So will I "prefer" Rogue One to TFA? My simple answer is no. I was thrilled when it was announced the saga would continue with Episodes VII, VIII and IX. I really enjoyed TFA and I am excited about the direction the new trilogy is heading. It was such a thrill to see Han, Chewie and Leia on the big screen again in a new SW movie. I can't wait to see more of Luke in Ep VIII.

As for Rogue One, I believe it has the opportunity to strike the nostalgic chord since the movie is set just prior to the events of Episode IV. I am looking forward to this new Star Wars Story very much. I cannot wait to see Darth Vader in action! I think it has a lot of potential to tell a really interesting story and possibly even make some connections to the sequel trilogy. For example, I would love to see a younger version of Lor San Tekka. Perhaps he could be shown as an early follower of the Church of the Force or include him in an important scene with Bail Organa where Leia is present could be pretty cool as well and tie nicely into TFA since she sends Poe to find Lor San Teeka.

Yeah like we could see Bail Organa sending him off the planet swearing him to always protect The Skywalker Lineage at all costs...then Alderaan gets blown up in the beginning of ANH and LAT moves to Jakuu from grief that he couldn't help .

As a fan who grew up with the OT, I don't think TFA and R1 can be compared. TFA is the continuation of a saga I never thought I'd see. It's carrying forward the story of Star Wars to a whole new generation. I'm able to see my kids develop the love if SW that was stoked in me when I was a kid and there is nothing better than that. I loved TFA and it brought SW back.

R1 is completely different. It is just as the title suggests, a SW story. It is a story about a specific event in the SW timeline. If done well it will help augment the saga. When we see the crawl of ANH and we see that there is a civil war and that Rebel spies have stolen plans to the Death Star, we will now have a visual of what happened. If done well it can be a very powerful visual. I can't really say that I would like one over another as they serve different purposes in the scheme of SW

I grew up with the OT on VHS (original editions!) so am I an older fan?! Can't wait for R1, to see the GFFA in that timeline era again is just mad exciting - visually I think it'll take me right back to being a kid again. TFA did just the same.

I am also one of the OLD fan being 10 when I saw ANH in the theater, been a fan ever since. I loooooved TFA and I'm really looking forward to Rouge one.

As some of you have all ready pointed out, this movie has the potential to be great in regards to the classical GFFA look and feel. As in ANH the jedi are gone , the force something mystical and Vader one hell off a bad guy.

Just like when I was a kid :) personally I love this idea and would love more movies in this universe, like ex. tales from the mos eisly cantina or tales from the court of jabba of the old EU. Storys that take place in the classical universe but with out to much force or jedi ;)

Think about the PT there we got all the jedi swordsbuckling we could ask for ( and thats ok if thats what you fancy ) here we get more of ANH style action and I love it.

And maybe just maybe we can get an update version of x-wing vs. tie-fighter ( best space flight simulator ever )
