I hope not. I only want to see one of the team survive if any at all. And the one that survives cannot be Jyn. My reasoning is I think any other ending throws off the delicate balance between tieing up any loose ends and leaving just a smidget of "I wonder what such and such is up to..." during ANH, ESB and ROTJ.

This is something I've seen pop up a lot, and it's something I am having a difficult time understanding. Why, exactly, do any of these characters need to be in any of the main films if they survive? Why do Deathtroopers need to be in the main films if they have a larger presence in the Empire other than just being Orson Krennic's personal bodyguards/death squad?

The galaxy is a large place, why should the events surrounding the rebellion be solely confined to what takes place in the original feature films? I'm sure there were plenty of other events taking place that the Rebel Alliance was involved in that occurred concurrently with the events of the original trilogy, be they major or minor. Why not have any of these characters survive? Who is to say they don't have more adventures of their own that aren't connected with any of the events we see in Episodes IV, V, or VI?

    Just my 2 cents. :)

I agree with you there. It should be that the unvierse/galaxy itself is much bigger than we think. The marketing materials and stories make everything seem too connected. However, if one story is focused on a few singular characters, then others will also ask why character A in the background isnt being focused on and whatnot. And, if that's the case, then the bantha on tattooine should have its own spinoff to address things. George Lucas simply just started with the focus on a ranom person named "Anakin Skywalker" and his overall life affecting people and R1 bleeds into that necessitating these new characters to come into play as secondary (but main) characters.

Wasn't there an interview or some sort of media event where Jyn was loosely compared to Joan of Arc?

Things didn't end well for that young lady.

I'm not sure i heard that yet but it would be a cool parallel but the feminism aspect of her could be related to literally all female characters in star wars.

Rebel dawn had a chapter that was about a group transmitting plans, not sure they were the ones who got them and they all took suicide tablets or were killed because there was no way out.

VADER I have traced the Rebel spies to
her. Now she is my only link to find
    their secret base!

Always sounded to me that after he had killed all Rebel spies (and in the original materials he was complaining that some had the audacity to kill themselves before he could get to them...) all the clues he got left was somehow that particular transmission directed at Leia's ship.

Seeing our new heroes perish in the destruction of Alderaan is probably not the kind of thing Disney would have authorized. I just hope they don't put RO survivors on the Death Star to retroactively ensure that Luke's proton torpedo does all the damage it was suppposed to do...

I think they will have their losses, but the ones to survive will be Jyn, her father Galen, Cassian and K-2SO. And that perspective you mentioned it is what gets me optimistic as well about the fate of the Ghost crew in Rebels. I mean, the Galaxy is a huge place, and from what we have heard the Rebel Alliance is made of a lot of small Rebel cells all across the Galaxy so I hope they survive in some way. And yes, I thought they would be goners either by Vader's hand or because they made it to Alderaan after delivering the plans to the Tantive IV - so they could distract the Imperials chasing them - but not so sure about it.

Interesting idea, and it would set up nicely for IF they decide to do a sequel to this spinoff (imagine them at Alderaan in the beginning, realizing what's happening and trying to escape- would be cool to see this pivitol moment from a different angle after so many years).

Honestly, though, I don't think the "why don't we see them in OT" question is simple enough- the setting is a freakin galaxy. We're used to running into the Skywalkers everytime we round a corner, but the truth is, it's unlikely you'd ever see the same person twice unless you were looking for them. Since the R1 crew are relatively nobodies- and by that, I mean they're obviously pretty expendable- I'm not at all surprised that they haven't met Luke or Leia on film. It's the same reason Killer Croc hasn't met Superman in the DCEU yet- both are protagonists in their films, but they're on a completely different level outside of the film meta.

Of course, that's not to say that all of these characters will survive- just that they don't necessarily have to die.

I still just feel that Bail Organa hasn't made people care enough about Alderaan. I still think it's very possible a hero or all heroes remaining will be placed on Alderaan.

If it can be done, something NEEDS to be done to actually give us more of a stake in the destruction of Alderaan ... like putting the Rogue One crew on the planet directly before it explodes.

That would create an ironic tragedy. Team fights for everything to obtain/steal the plans for the Rebellion and the good of the Galaxy, then get destroyed by the thing they were trying to bring down.

Sad, but in a way, quite fitting

This is also a good point (emperor) to have a heroic victory in RO, then to blow the heroes up off screen without a mention ever again would suck.

Everybody always says "but it's Disney," but I'm not sure Disney has ever been afraid to go dark.
