    Anakin was mortally wounded and became more machine than man. Luke's hand was a mirror of his father's, and a reflection of the different choices each of those Skywalkers made. Unless you think that this story is EXACTLY the same as the previous ones, what makes you think that body parts need to be sacrificed in order for someone to be strong with the Force? If she's as powerful as you claim, for whatever reason, then perhaps she doesn't get wounded in such a catastrophic way. That would make more sense to me.

    I concure. We don't need the good guys to loose limbs as some sort of tribute to SW tradition. Lets hope they keep it real and true to form as an original story.

    I believe that one of the main three new characters will lose a limb by the end of the ST It's happed in every existing Star Wars trilogy, whether Rey loses a hand or not, I believe that someone will. It's an unwritten Star Wars Law:
    (At least one Force user in a Star Wars Trilogy is destined to lose a limb)
    Will JJ or future Star Wars directors break that Law?? Maybe.

    You will be. The audience will truly feel for her injury and loss. Disney wants to pull and tug the hearts and sympathies of the audience which is why the ST will be more shocking and compelling than the OT and PT.

    Hard to believe it will be more compelling than even the OT, but not impossible, I'm kind of hoping Star Wars gets better with this new trilogy and becomes an amazing story all generations will enjoy and that the PT hating will subside. I find it hard to imagine how they will continue a story that for so long fans wondered what happened to Luke Leia and Han? I am getting excited and hope the next 6 moths fly bye fast

    Rey will develop the heart of a leader which is something that Finn and Poe do not have. Having her limbs cut off will develop her strength in character and her new bad-ass cybernetic limbs will make her a more powerful jedi.
