SPECULATION Will the green lightsaber show up in IX?

I doubt the galaxy cares or is even aware about it. "Oh look, some random green lightsaber I just found." I feel like that story is more suited for a comic book. We don't need know every detail, IMO.

My point is that 9 has bigger fish to fry then worrying about what happened to Luke's green saber.

 

I'm definitely super curious about it, but I'm not sure if it has a chance of playing into IX. I think Rey will build a new one, for sure. Perhaps redeemed Kylo could inherit it in some way and as much as I'd like to be fan serviced this way... it would be awkward given the flashbacks in TLJ.

I think it's more likely that we will find out more in the tie-ins. The safest bet right now is that Luke had it on Ahch-To. There's a passage at the end of TLJ novelisation that says the Caretakers took Luke's "weapon" after he died and while I think it strongly suggests it's that lightsaber, we don't know for sure because it wasn't specified. It's like LFL want us to think it's the lightsaber for now, but they also want to have an option to retcon it. So technically that "weapon" could have been a wooden dagger for all we know.

 

We may see a green lightsaber perhaps - but I doubt it will be the green lightsaber.

 

The green saber is definitely just as iconic to Luke in terms of the story as is the blue one to Anakin. I won't be surprised if it has a similar role in IX ending up in Rey's hands.

Or instead of Rey building a new one, she fixes/re-builds the blue saber. Someone brought up this idea in another thread (NinjaRen?) as symbolic of Rey fixing/re-building Ben. Would be great symbolism. Then Ben inherits Anakin's blue saber at the end of his Anakin-like arc and Rey gets Luke's green one at the end of her Luke-like arc.

 

I think the green saber was lost forever. Rey will probably fix the blue one or will create another different saber.

 

Maybe Kylo has it somewhere hidden. And after he got redeemed, he will use it in an epic way.

 

If he got redeemed...I`m not sure about that. I don't think it is possible to redeem yourfself after killing your own father. But we wll see what JJ thinks about that.

On the other thing, I reckon R2's got Luke's green lightsaber. After all, he's got prior convictions for it

 

Han, Leia and Luke want him to be redeemed. This is everything that counts in that matter. Vader did much worse. I don't need Ren to be redeemed, but it's not impossible to redeem him. "No one is ever really gone."

 

That green lightsaber is, above all, fully symbolic.
- the blue one was a passing between his father and him, between the Ancien Times and the New Times, between the decimated old Jedi Order and the new one to be rebuilt. The blue lightsaber is the symbol that Luke inherits the Jedi role, but he isn't yet a Jedi.
- the green one is however the real expression that Luke has become a Jedi. He constructed it himself, at the same time he was constructing his Jedi personnality. The green saber is the symbol of Luke's true membership to the Jedi Order.

And then we end up on Acht-To, and we learn Luke ceased to be a Jedi and disconnected himself from the Force.
And the green lightsaber has disappeared, while the blue one is clearly visible and used since TFA.



So my thoughts are :

But as he retired from the Jedi way and cut himself off of the Force, he must have put his green symbol in a lost place. Maybe in the sunk X-Wing. Maybe inside Artoo who was turned off (another symbol : Artoo awakes to get Luke bring back to the Jedi path).

It could. Apparently Luke is dead by the end of TLJ, the same way Vader is apparently dead by the end of ROTJ.
But remember the very end of Episode 6 : Vader died.... and Anakin showed up as a Jedi force ghost, with his Jedi robe and a luminous smiling face.
According to that, Luke force ghost could very well join the Force and the Jedi again.... and carry the symbolic green bladed weapon.

For the same reason I wrote above, about the symbolic significance of the green lightsaber, I agree with you : Rey has to build her own lightsaber, of course in the case she wants to become a Jedi.
If she still uses the blue one, or the green one, she's not truly a Jedi : of course, she has the inheritance and the legacy, but she has not made it her way.
Remember Vader facing Luke in Bespin Clouds City : "the Force is with you, young Skywalker, but you are not a Jedi yet". Why does Vader tell Luke that "he is not a Jedi yet" ? Because Luke still uses the blue saber, the legacy, Vader perfectly recognized it, and that did truly confirm Luke was not yet a Jedi.
A Padawan starts to become a Jedi first with constructing his own lightsaber. Rey has to follow the same path.

Why not. But Ben does not need the legacy, as he already has proven he was a Sith Heir, constructing his own red lightsaber.
It's now Rey's turn.

It will be handed of to Rey some how, Luke made it as a Jedi it will symbolize Rey as a Jedi. Right now she is someone who can use the force but she is no Jedi.

The only way it shows up, in my opinion, is as an easter egg. Maybe Rey will go back to Ahch-To to find Luke and she then pays her respects to a grave or shrine erected by the caretakers and his robe and lightsaber are there.
